    Default Slip on mufflers for 2019

    I wasn't going to change out my mufflers after getting the 2019, but after 5,000 miles the darn thing just isn't sounding like my 2016.

    Since we are in the Black Hills I was hoping J&P in Sturgis would have a big selection in stock at their retail store. No such luck so I went ahead and ordered a set of Rush 4" Big Louie Slash Down with 2.5 baffles. They will be in this morning at the store so I'll put them on this afternoon.

    Who has changed the pipes and/or mufflers out on their 2019's? What did you put on and how did you like them? Did you do the breather also?
    Current: 2019 Trike (custom 130ci T-Man kit with Darkhorse bottom end)

    I just put on Cobra 909s and the Ventilator air cleaner. Begrudgingly bought the SEPST and the cord to do the download myself. Mine is 4 days old with 209 miles. I'm not flushing my warranty. lol. When they said "I should" buy the tuner I translated that into "if I don't I'm screwed down the road". Lol. Tell ya what. The install was a bear. Had to loosen up the whole body to lift it to get to the rear bolts.

    Pipes sound good enough I'll be ok waiting 2 years to do what I want.

    I put Cobra 909 slip-ons on my 2015 Freewheeler about a year ago. Also added a stage 1 air filter and EBS from DK Custom. Already had a Power Vision and they sent me a new download for that. Trike runs great, MPG is good. Cobras sound good but not too loud.

    From what I have read online and also thru videos from you tube you will lose your warranty if you put anything that is not screaming eagle or their tuner, Harley is getting tough on this from what I have heard, sounds like the EPA owns Harley. If your dealer says they will still do warranty work if needed, beware, they may do it but if caught they stand to lose big time and maybe if their liscense to operate. I had a dealer a few years back tell me that a person was in getting a oil change and a person from Harley came in that was a surprise to them and he seen what had been done to the Harley and he voided the warranty on that bike, the guy had 1 year to go, he wasn't to happy but nothing he could do, he knew it up front from the dealer but the dealer usually knows when they are going to show up so they don't schedule anything that could void a warranty for the people on their bikes.

    It is up to you want you want to do and if you don't care about warranty, then do it, me on the other hand I'm leaving my stock because of warranty and I'm not even going to put screaming eagle stuff or their tuner on the bike, I just don't trust harley any more, they are getting bad, sales are way down and maybe this could explain it, if harley can void warranty that is money saved for them for repairs and the owner has to pay the dealer for the work so Harley wins on both counts.

    Pipes came in on time and undamaged. Put them on and just did a couple mile test run. Bike's "brain" adjusted to less back pressure and I didn't have any crackling when backing off from high rpm.

    Later in the day (raining) we were at the Sturgis Harley store. Priced the Screaming Eagle breather and mounting plate. This is the kit that still allows you to keep your OEM outside box. Around $200 so I will shop around, probably look at D&K's.

    If putting on a more open breather is going to cause me to need a tuner then I don't want to do it. I thought I read somewhere that the 114 M8's would run great doing pipes and a breather without a tuner, but I could be wrong.

    Joe, the M8 engines will adapt OK to this change

    Ditto what Jack said. A tune is not needed.

    That being said, it will run better with a tune, but the M8's do not have the lean condition that the Twin Cams have.

    In this REPORT you can see that the AFR adjusts fine without a tune...BUT, there is more power from a tune.

    Did almost 200 miles yesterday, Spearfish Canyon, then ran down and did Needles. Took the long way around back to the campground. Rained 80% of the way and went from our starting temp of 65 to 55. At one point on 16A just north of Keystone we came over a rise and there was a stretch of pavement covered with about an inch of slush. It lasted for about a mile. We assumed it was some big hail that hit just before we arrived.

    Anyway, really didn't notice any difference in performance all day going from 3,000 feet to around 6,000 feet and back. Just sounded a little better.

    Sounds like a fun time!

    Yes, the M8 is a great power plant, and very versatile.

    John, Maxwell installed Tab slip ons with the Zombie baffles on his 2018 114 softtail and they sound pretty good.
    2017 Harley Davidson Freewheeler (107 cu.in. vivid black).

    I just put Cobra 909s on mine. And the Ventilator air cleaner. ran it a couple hundred miles without a tune. Did the flash with the sepst and theres a difference. Huge? No. But the intermittent decell pop is gone and it rolls on even smoother. Is it worth the cost? For me its peace of mind. when the owner at my dealership said "I should" use it. I figured that I would save aggravation down the road if I had a warranty issue. The cobra 909s were 309 bucks on Amazon. couldn't pass that deal up. The wife has them on her 15 Freewheeler. they sound great.

    That was a good price on the 909s. I think mine sounds better, but to be perfectly honest it doesn't sould as good as my 16 did with inexpensive Full Boar mufflers. I may be wrong but I just don't think the 114 M8s sound as good as the 103s no matter what mufflers they have. But then I still miss my 07 Wide Glide and the way it sounded.
