    Default DK Air Deflectors

    I put these on back in Late May. Before I go on ... I love them .. when I ride in shorts (anytime weather is over 70*) I can feel the increase of air coming to the inside of my legs which proves that they drive air where I need it ... keeping my legs cool and more importantly ... the engine cooler.

    So here is my question:

    I had totally forgotten about the little HD air wings on the outside of the faring (too many Gold Wings). On my post yard work ride this morning, the brain engaged and I remembered them. Angled them to push air towards my chest and was in heaven. It was only 85* so moving air still felt good. When I got home, I did the 360 in the cul-de-sac so I could back into the garage and when I took the bars all the way to the right I heard a scrape, but, it was quick. Bringing the bars back to the center I heard it again. finally figured it out, the bottom of the wings are rubbing onto the top of the air deflectors.

    I don't know if I installed them wrong ... but, they don't really fit any other way.

    They pretty much are "Form Fitting" ... I'm not giving them up, they are great at keeping heat off the feet "at speed" and air on the engine.

    Maybe I just need to remember to put the HD vent closed when I'm gonna make a all the way to the stop turn.

    There are now little "arches" on thew deflectors where the HD vent has scraped the air deflectors ... again, I'm not wanting to ditch them ... just checking if I installed them incorrectly ... DK does more product testing than any other company I know ... so I'm pretty sure I installed them wrong ... to be honest ... I can't remember if I read the directions ...

    Default Adjustment

    Hello Alan,

    the angle on your wing appear to be pointed at the front cylinder head. If you adjust them to point more toward the rear cylinder, will that give you more clearance? Just a thought.

    I'll play with it, but, if I move them more down in the front, they could vibrate against the lowers ... ... they are centered with even gaps all around .. maybe Kevin will chime in ... in the mean time ... I'm taking the position that I don't care if they rub ...

    I checked and with the fairing vents turned and mine hit also. I will be sure to be careful about that.

    Hey Alan,

    It is a tight fit, but it should work when you have everything lined us just right. Yours look a bit pointed up.

    In the second to last paragraph before the "General Notes" it says the following (but I recommend reading the entire link above)-

    Once it is almost snug, rotate the CDW to the angle you want. Carefully turn the handlebars allthe way to the right, making sure there is no interference. Once you have determined that youcan turn the handlebars from side to side with no interference, and that you have at least ¼”space between the CDW and the lower fairing, go ahead and tighten it down.

    Fuzzy, yours look more verticle than I have mine set. Mine are a little more flat to get more air to the rear cylinder. I also bent mine very slightly after install but no rubbing now.
    It is what it is.

    Kind of what I figured ... I've never been big on instructions ... Having said that ...

    This morning ... like first light 0545 (5:45 for the landlubbers ... LOL) I was out "playing"

    I remove the HD Vents, got out my grinder and file. Did a grind on both of them to remove about a 1/4" ... kept the same angles and curves ... then filed it smooth, and put a long match on the filed part to make them shinny ...

    Patience was never a virtue of mine ... LOL .. so now I have the same air flow ... and no rubbing ... My dad used to say, "Sometimes there are two ways to do things ... the right way ... and Alan's way"
