    Default Ciro Drink Holder Review

    Rider:

I really like the clean install. When not using the drink holder, a simple plastic hand nut will allow you to remove the cup holder and all you have left is a ball. This is a ball and socket type arrangement.

The little ball thingie has a set screw that can be loosened and allows for a bit more flexibility. I turned mine forward after mounting it on the right control. I like it there because it forces me to not be drinking when I'm not in cruise ... just my preference. It can be mounted on either side. The ball has been "roughed up" so when you mount the cup holder and tighten the nut, it is pretty sturdy. I'm putting a 36 oz yeti in it, so it needs to be. The mount and cup holder are of good quality, maybe a tad pricey, but, not any more than the butler is now. In the next pic you can see by putting the ball forward some, the cup holder is prevented from angling down with weight in it by the bars. There is also some height adjustment on the mount, maybe 1/2". I will have mine set to the highest so nothing hits the filler cover in full turns , see I'm learning.

About the only negative thing I would have to say about this thing is that the rubber cage thing that holds the cup/bottle is snug and holds your drink well ... too well ... LOL. My yeti fits inside the chrome ring easily and will slide to the bottom of the cage. Pulling it out is more challenging. Kind of like a Chinese finger torque thing. It comes out .. but, you gotta work at it. I suspect its will loosen up a tad over time and weathering.

    Passenger:

Why did I get a passenger??? I like symmetry and I like stuff to match. I will use it to hold a yeti type bottle for Harley to have water.

Okay .. .on with the review.

The install is much cleaner than the Kuryakyn passenger holder. Again, it's a ball and socket set up. The cup holder can be removed just like the rider one. When not in use you are left with this, stock pic:

    Name: Passenger Drink Holder 3.jpg
Views: 437
Size: 91.3 KB

I like that it is subtle, kind of wish I got the front one in black instead of chrome ... I got chrome because I'm thinking this winter of doing 12" apes, chrome hand controls and SS braided hoses. Maybe not .. LOL.

The install is very simple. You put the ball and the bracket together with two small screws. You then loosen the top nut on the speaker pod on the side you want to mount it (it too can be mounted on either side), slide the bracket in, tighten the nut, voila ... done. Since I had to remove all three screws on the speaker on the right side to remove the kuryakyn holder, I just put it on the right for now. The water bottle I plan to use for Harley is 24 oz, so, it's not as tight in the cup holder. Everything else is pretty much the same, except there is no adjustment on the ball, but, I can't see where you'd need it.

Here it is on my trike:

    Summary:

These are some well made products, clean installs and very functional without being ugly.

While researching these, I stumbled on this:

    Name: Ciro Dash Mount 23.95.jpg
Views: 425
Size: 12.2 KB

It mounts on the dash and is held in place with the center windshield screw mount, so the ball is dead center just slightly sticking over the dash.

    Name: Dash Ball.jpg
Views: 419
Size: 42.3 KB

    I also found this, a camera/phone/gps mount:

    Name: Ciro GPS Mount 26.26.jpg
Views: 680
Size: 8.6 KB

If there is enough cord, my plan is to move the PV to the center dash. That way, I would have the gps on the left, cup holder on the right, and PV center. If there is not enough cord for the PV, I have a phone mount that will sit on the above mount, or the GoPro will fit on it too. If I end up using it for the GoPro, it will be way easier to remove the mount and camera with the ball and socket as a unit.

So It won't be a waste, either way ... ... I'll let ya know how it turns out, They should be here tomorrow ... I "accidentally" signed up for the Amazon Prime 30 day free trial, so I'm getting my wish list done while I get free 2 day shipping ...

Nice review Fuzzy. Did you order off Amazon or from Ciro directly?

You are correct...those Ciro cup holders will loosen up some over time. I have had the rider and passenger Ciro cupholders on my 2018 TG for a little over a year now. Love them, with one exception. A couple weeks ago the wife and I were on our way home from a long weekend ride. Doing about 50mph on a normally nice road, I suddenly came upon a newly patched defect in the road. The "patch" was more like a speedbump, and I could not avoid it. It was quite a jolt at the rear end, and as I heard my wife screech over the intercom, I looked in the mirror to see her Yeti cup doing aerial somersaults, and dying an ugly death in the roadway. That jolt jettisoned the Yeti out of the cupholder like a mortar shell! Other than that...no complaints.

Like I said ... I "accidentally" got signed up for Amazon Prime (I thought I was just clicking for free shipping), and so, I'm ordering my wish list while I'm getting free 2 day shipping ... I'll cancel it next week.

Good to know about them loosening them up. And sadly ... I have lost three of the 32 oz. thermos mugs that Glassact.com sells for the butlers in the same circumstances (well one was when the tree hit me). So, I guess any drink holder can cost you your drink. I wonder if I could make a retractable tether for my yeti?????

    Default Update

Okay, so the PV cable is not long enough to get the PV to the center dash through the faring (yes I tried). I would need about 4-6". So, I emailed dyno jet to see if they make and sell a longer one ... nope, but, in their usual great customer service, they recommended that I purchase a Y connector.

This thing is used to split the diagnostic connection ... adds about 19". It allows HD to access it via the other half and leave my Power Vision cable alone.

Yep, I ordered it and I'll post about it when I install it.

I can make the Y connector cords. Buy the plugs for about $4. each, 18 ga. wire and in about Half an hour. done. I can order the plugs online, get in my truck drive about 5 miles and walk into the business and pick them up. Just bought the crimpers a couple weeks back to make the connections for my Might Mites fans.

I like my Ciro cup holder, it was quick and easy to istall for sure. My only disappointment was the cup itself did not keep drinks cold for very long. Once I discovered the Yeti cup fit in the holder I was happy, even with mid 90's temp the Yeti kept drink cold for half day or longer.

My Contigo 24oz is too skinny and long for any holder. It has a straw system that I like.

Usualy have to pull over to pee in between water needs, so I just keep it in the tour pac.

    Default Rhino, Just for You

Okay ... so as promised ... a brief synopsis of "how it's working out" ...

I decided this morning while watching the British Open that I wanted the passenger holder on the left side ... couple of reasons.

!) I get on and off the trike on the left side ... since it will hold Harley's water bottle, made sense to put it where I can get it easier.

    2) I'm thinking the ball when not holding a bottle would be a nice place to mount a GoPro. Facing to the rear.

So I did that. As mentioned, It's pretty easy to mount and unmount this thing, loosen the screw on the top of the speaker, slip the mount in and you're done. But, while doing that, I realized I forgot to mention the shrink wrap to protect the speaker from the mount.

Comes with the kit, but, I found I needed a touch of dielectric grease to slip it on, then hit it with the heat gun and done.

    Here it is mounted:

I also realized that I had taken all the pics of my review with the standard cup holder. The one I ordered for the rider was the Big A$$ Drink Holder ... so here's one of that

They weren't lying ... it's big ... same great quality and my 36 oz yeti fits just fine .. doesn't get all the way to the bottom, but, it definitely won't go anywhere unless I go airborne ... LOL ... could happen.

Late Yesterday the dash mount came ... the socket mount for a phone/gps/camera didn't get here, out for delivery today. I did have the Kuryakyn one, so that was my test dummy.

I played around with a couple of different possibilities.

This would work ... mounting the PV in the center of the dash:

Size: 621.5 KB

Another option ... mounting the PV on the left and the GPS on the dash ... kind of like this concept because the GPS wouldn't get mounted except on longer trips ... like Kerrville or Kentucky .. .. also, I have a phone mount that would fit there ... might be a tad large for the iPhone XS Max to be in the middle of the dash ... but it would eliminate the little phone going on trips .. LOL .. the little phone (iPhone SE) is a nice phone ... but these old eyes have a hard time with it, even with the glasses. Too many metal splinters, flash burns, steam etc in them. ... I could just bring the little phone and use it like an iPod ... use the big phone as the phone/computer ...

My thought is that all I'll have on the trike when around town is the PV, Drink holder and a ball in the middle.

Here's a pic of the front with nothing mounted except the ball mounts:

See what I mean by the clean install. The cord for the PV has velcro on the end just up from the plug, I use it to hide the cord under the dash and keep it out of the weather ... just didn't push it up there for the pics. Also, I did move the mounts to the tallest position so I don't have issues with clearance. Might be able to see that.

When the GPS socket mount gets here today, if the quality is good, I may order another one to use to mount my rear GoPro ... can't tell by the photo if the quality is there or not. If that doesn't work out, I could mount the GoPro on the trunk just under the tour pak .. it would fit and I would just need to double sticky tape a mount there ... possibility.

Summary: ... I like these mounts ... versatile ... clean ... and well made.
