    Default Got a New Project

Friend of mine ... actually the owner of my God Dogs, called me yesterday and asked that I come over. Was a little nervous because that usually means some work for me .... LOL.

Her Father passed like 18 months ago. He was big into classic cars ... when I say big, he had three.

A 1934 Plymoth PE Coup (Bonnie and Clyde looking thing, Promised to her by her Dad, both their names on the title)

A 1949 Willys Jeepster (Promissed to her sister by her Dad, her sister and her dad on the title)

A 1950 DeSoto Business Man's Coup (also promised to her by her dad and this one is 90% restored, her and her dad on the title)

Anyway, she is still trying to get her dad's estate closed out, he died without a will so the estate is in probate. Since the cars are titled in two names, they automatically go to the second name on the title. Because of that, she has not been worried about the cars.

Anyway, she doesn't want to deal with any of them and offered me either or both of the two she now owns. I have literally driven the 1934 Plymouth in 2014 before he had some body work done (he had the body work done but the paint is not so good ... would have been better if he just left it alone). This is a complete car all original except the paint and the coil (he didn't want to spend $100 for a coil that mounted in the firewall, so he bought a $12 universal and mounted it on the engine block).

After the body work, it was put back together. It was kept in his 3 car garage after that. It got moved to her yard when she sold his house. It's been covered with tarps and car covers since then.

I asked her what she wants for it. She said I could have that if I made her a promise not to hot rod it. I would never ... I like the look of it the way it is ... It will need a mechanical upgrade, brakes, fluids, clean the fuel system, maybe tires and maybe a wiring harness, maybe not. I told her I would give her $1000 and my promise ... she said keep the money, you did dog sit my little dog, Jillie, for 7 weeks following her surgery after all .... I said fine, but, if she changed her mind, the $$ was hers. She did ask for one more thing ... that I let her ride in it one last time after I get it running ... told her anytime.

Here's what it looks like ... copied from the net ... I'm not gonna undo the wraps until I get my garage cleaned out and can put it in ... she's keeping it at her place until I make that happen.

I'll update this when I get it moved ... but, I have the title in hand ...

That would be a nice car to own, an unmolested classic.

That will be a great project for you and a really neat car. I almost got my hands on a 1937 Plymouth coupe one time that was 100% original and in excellent condition. Basically only needed new tires. Belonged to an old widow that was a customer of mine and she had to give up driving. Unfortunately I missed out on it, a young man down the street from her got it and ended up destroying it.

    Enjoy your new project!

    Default Update

Got a frantic call from the gal whose dogs I sit and apparently the recent storms did some significant damage to the car covers she had on her dad's cars (well ... now her cars ... her Dad passed awhile ago). She had no idea what to do.

My first thought was to buy new car covers ... then I remembered the magic garage had an RV cover for my toy hauler I never put on it. Since I no longer have the Toy Hauler due to the Bankruptcy, why not use it. It was designed to fit a 20-24 foot toy hauler. Maybe it would fit two of the cars and I know it is heavy duty. Dug it out of the rafters and went on over.

I was right, only would fit two of the three. She opted to cover the 34 Plymouth and the 50 DeSoto. The 48 Willis Jeepster would have to stay out in the weather (the car her dad left to her sister and the sister expects to have her "store it" for her). So after some measuring we headed out to Harbor Freight with the God Dogs in tow.

We found a 9 mil tarp on sale and a 600 foot roll of nylon rope. Came home and covered the two with the RV cover and the Willis with the tarp.

Left is the DeSoto, Right is the Plymouth.

Willis Jeepster, the top is down and can't be raised. There's plywood under the bricks ... .

I thought when she called, the covers where destroyed, not really that bad so I opted to not uncover them, just add a layer. So no pics uncovered. Maybe soon. Almost forgot .. the 34 is a 4 door ... not the 2 door I thought ... but still a really kewl piece of history .

I really need to get the garage cleaned out and bring the 34 Plymouth home. Maybe after Kerrville.
