I might be putting this in the wrong place - if so sorry.

Want to know if anyone has triked their Sportster using the DNA axle?

If so what did you use for tires/wheels and are you happy with it? Thanks

I can not help with the Sportster reply but I recently bough a DNA axle and am converting a 1999 Triumph legend. I found some SS Cragar Wheels with narrow Coker tires. One thing I can tell you if you want is where to buy the lug studs a lot cheaper than what you see on eBay. If you don't already have your studs let me know and I will find the info. Good Luck with your build.

Denny

I had another thought about your build. Santiago Chopper has some nice trike photos on this site using a similar axle as what you have, they also have a trike tutorial on their web site about setting up the rear axle.

I purchased my lug studs from Apex Competition, and I got my special uni-lug washers and nuts from lug king on eBay.

A friend and I are building my swing-arm since they don't make one for my bike. I see they make them for all years of Sportsters but if you are a welder it should be fairly simple to build your own.

Thanks for the responce.

I'm doing a 2004 XL1200 Sportster. Already have the axle & swing arm. I was hoping to find out wheel and tire size that others are using too get the gearing right.

Also wonder how these axles hold up. dale

Lugs can be had quickly and inexpensively for the DNA rear ends from NAPA. They are M12-1.5 X 36MM. P/N for a box of 5, is 641-3132.
265x50x15 is the correct tire size to maintain ratios. With the 5 on 4.75" bolt circle, wheel selection is immense.

Thanks guys for the good info. I'm a little afraid of a 265 tire and hydroplaning. I'm thinking that I will be alright if I stay with something around 26" tall though. Thanks again guys. Dale

DNA sporty

I went a different way. I wanted a certain look and bought seventeen inch American Racing boulevard wheels. Had to have the center hole machined out to the three inch size on the DNA axle with 245/45 17 tires. This ends up pretty close to stock tire size, and looks awesome. We'll see about ride, ect. when I get it finished. still working on it.

Got mine last friday, unboxed it and it sits right now, ordered the wheel lug studs today, going to pull my crager 14" mags off my old honda trike (I'll replace them with mustang steelies. Watched a video on you tube, waiting on word back for a PDF file instructions. I need to ride the sportster as I am having some car problems and get those fixed before I tear apart the bike, so maybe 3 months before I get a go on this. I already have a rake kit on it so I hope it will take care of the trike wobble head.... I learned about that on the honda trike, it was NOT a goldwing unit it was a CBR1000f crotch rocket on a ford custom narrowed 9" rear. The mono shock had to come out and I installed an easy adjust air shock to get rake and trail within tolerance. I hope to get motivated on it again, too soon.
