    Default Look What I Found

I was routing around the area of the garage that I haven't cleaned ... I found these. A pair of Saddleman bags designed to be mounted on the saddlebag protectors of an Ultra type bag. I had cut the "ears" off and was trying to figure out how to mount these on the 08 Gold Wing trike I had ... never go to that project. Thinking now that they might make a great addition to the Fat Bottom Girl.

    Back:

I also have a set of the Harley type ... these are much more water resistant since they have a zip up top, and the flap that has a turn type snap.

Now ... how do I mount them?

Option 1) I do have a snap kit that would allow me to add new snaps, one to the top flap and three to the bottom flaps. I don't have black snaps so I would change them all to chrome. I would drill 8 holes in each fender and put the male part of the snaps there.

Option 2) I could easily drill four holes in each fender and use bolts with fender washers on the inside of the bag.

Option 3) Seems to me there wes some kind of "film" that allowed mounting these type bags without it being "permanent".

I'm not sure what I'd put in them ... probably gloves and arm sleeves, maybe my wallet, when Harley goes, I could put his leash and some snacks ... since I removed the armrests from the passenger area, I don't have a spot to put the credit card anymore, so, getting gas means opening my tour pak ... LOL. I know ... pretty lazy ...

So what do you think ... am I crazy for putting these on the fat bottom girl? I also thought about mounting them on the little trailer ... but making holes in that would lead to leaks ... on the FBG it's just into the fender.

Drilling holes into my TG, is definitely not at the top of my list. Always turns out ugly and is permanent!

Nice find ... I considered screws ... but, when you screw into plastic ... it usually cracks, even if pilot holes are used. I was thinking maybe pop rivets with backing washers. Or nylock nuts on bolts.

    How about this location?

Maybe use wide Velcro to attach them. The Velcro wouldn't be permanent.

You best use fender washers on the inside of the fenders

Fuzz don't you have a trailer? I have owned a trike for 6 years now and I have never needed more storage than adding a windshield bags for sunglasses. However good luck I would only consider industrial velcro. Just sayin Fred

The more I think about this ... the less I like the idea of mounting them ... The Kuryakyn ones look promising. Might look into those. The bags I have are like 1 1/2 times the size of my hand ... not gonna fit on the lowers.

Any way to attach them inside the tourpak or trunk? Maybe inside the side covers as a semi hidden storage bag?

These things are pretty good size ... they are bigger than the Harley version. They measure 8" x 8" x 5" deep. Definitely not gonna fit under the side cover. Putting them in the tour pak or trunk doesn't seem like a good idea. Take space from them to add space. The side cover idea has a little potential ... maybe mount them on the side covers. If the plastic cracks, replace just a side cover.

Doesn't anyone remember the name of the Sponsor we had here that used some kind of special bra material to mount the bags?

UPDATE: It was seethroughbraz ... I read some of their reviews and like everything I tried to mount with double sticky tape etc, they start to peel off in the heat.

To me, the interesting part of the entire thread is post #1, where you mention there's a section of your garage you haven't cleaned out.

Would that be the section between the front & the back.

I know it isn’t my garage. It is Pristine front to back. Left to right looks like a tornado came through and decided to visit awhile.

You obviously missed the post about cleaning the entire front.

    Default New Possibility

I found this in my save box in the garage.

If I trim a tad off the width, and cut it in half, they would be nice backer plates. I could make both of them (two after cut in half) identical and use them as templates to make holes in the trike and saddlebags. Add some washers and I think this would eliminate the fear of cracking. I'll yak with Don this morning, he has a saw blade that cuts plastic without "burning it".

Another benefit to using these as backing plates (inside the body of the trike, is that I could line them up on the body, get them perfectly aligned, drill the holes in the trike body ... then mount the bags on them. They would be cut to the exact width between the seems on the saddlebags. so aligning would be easy.

Also, I could trim the flap above and below the bag and eliminate the snaps all together. I think it would be a cleaner install and they would look more professional.

Check with www.seethroughbraz.com They have a saddle mounting kit with military grade velcro. I mounted the same type bags with their product 4 yrs ago and have never had a problem.

Thanks for that link ... Looks like that would be an option ... I did look at their site, and read some of the reviews ... but didn't see this section ... reviews on this look good. If your's don't loosen in Texas heat ... I think this may work.

I did get the backers made and was contemplating mounting them ... I was playing "Devils Advocate" with myself and realized that if I mount these with screws, getting the side covers off might be real tough or maybe even impossible.

I may reverse the bolts so the counter sunk screws are on the outside and mount the velcro stuff to the backers. Not sure the velcro will stick to the "felt" like stuff on the back of the bags.

Use a high grade velcro and get that 3M stuff that pop in, don't remember the name of it but it is very durable and people that have used it with good success, just wish I could remember it, seen it on here quite some time back, please don't drill holes, someday you might regret it.

    All for now Trampas
