Wow Gary! I am glad you and Jo Ann are ok! I guess God was riding you and got you though what could have been a really bad situation. Glad you both are ok!
We were in our car and travelling the Indiana turnpike Tuesday afternoon at 73 mph in the passing lane next to a semi when our right side trailer tire blew out, taking the trailer fender with it. Thankfully the anti sway software on our Chevy Traverse worked really well and we got slowed down and were able to get to the right berm with any problems. After I changed my shorts, lol, we called AAA, I carry a spare for the trailer but no trailer jack, duh!!! They said about a 2 1/2 hour wait, ok then.
About 5 minutes later an Indiana Trooper pulled up, checked on us and said 'I'll change it for you' Wow, talk about service, anyhow he changed the tire and we were back on our way to Ohio. We feel very lucky, things could have gone very bad at that speed and a blowout pulling a trailer. Going shopping for a new rim and tire tomorrow.

"I don't need a map. I still have a road in front of me!"
Scary experience no doubt.
Glad to hear everything worked out in a timely manner for you! Probably a real good plan to find a new trailer tire before going too much further. If one blew, the other could be ready to do the same?
Good luck on the remainder of your trip, Gary...
Isn't it weird that in AMERICA, our flag and our culture offend so many people...but our benefits don't???
I had a trailer tire go in me once, Luckily i was only going about 25 mph around a sharp right angle turn...While i was standing on the side of the road looking at the blown tire a county mountie stopped and asked whats the matter 'No spare tire...Nope i have one, Then he says 'No jack..Nope i have one...Its just that the lock on the spare is rusted solid ... So i'm sitting here waiting for my Son to bring me my big master key....AKA Bolt cutter...
Word to the wise....If you have a lock on the spare check it every now and then....

When I worked as a greaser, part of our matinence check was air in the spare. 60% were flat.

Glad to hear that both you and Jo Anne are OK.
Pete brings up a very valid point about the other tire on the trailer. It's always a good idea to replace the tires in pairs and keep the spare as a temp spare only.
See you both in Maggie.
I always check the pressure in the spare, it is a full size tire exactly what came with the trailer including the original type rim. We're going to tractor supply tomorrow, there is a huge one near our daughters, hoping we can find a match.

We also had a blowout on our cargo trailer. Lucky we had a double axle, a spare and a Harbor Freight aluminum floor jack. We also lost the fender as well as the trailer lights, due to a clearance light on the fender. When we got home, I researched trailer tires and found most were made in China (china bombs). I replaced all our tires with LT truck tires. I went up a size to get the same weight rating. They worked well for 5 years. We just bought a 1 year old toy hauler. The first thing I did was swap its china bombs with the LT tires from the cargo trailer. LT tires have more impact resistant sidewalls, better overall construction, higher speed rating, thicker tread and a smoother ride with less sway.
I would replace your tires with either LTs or the new Goodyear STs with an E rating.
Couple years ago I had a tire "blow" on my trailer I haul bikes/trikes ... it didn't actually loose air, just about 3/4 of the tread blew off ... bent the snoot out of the steel fender and as Zammy said, "made me change my shorts".
One of the things that I learned from that was that just because the trailer didn't have a lot of miles, didn't mean the tires where okay. Trailer tires like all tires will dry rot ... on trailers we don't use often, we need to be aware of the need to replace them regularly. I have added a maintenance item to replace them like every five years now.
Wow, I hope you get squared away with some new skins for your trailer

Sorry for the troubles Gary, but glad it turned out as well as it did. China tires are like every thing else China sends here. I have seen those tires blow out on brand new Travel trailers on way to dealers at less than 300 miles. O yeah Ride-On doesn't help with blow outs . "HI" to Joanne

The Reason why China sends them here is because Americans want it cheap ! Had the proper tariffs been in place years ago we wouldn’t have this problem and we wouldn’t have a China flush with money to build bigger military which one day our grandkids Might have to confront ..

My research has shown that the overwhelming majority of trailer tires have a maximum speed rating of 62 MPH or less! This is especially true of the Chinese tires! The information is very hard to find on the Internet but it's there.
I got looking for this information AFTER I had brought back a trailer load of patio doors (1200 lbs) on my trailer from FL to AR at "highway speeds" (70 - 80 MPH). I knew I was OK for load but the speed rating thought only occurred to me about 2/3 of the way back! I made it back OK. It's hard to believe that nobody is making tires with at least an 82 MPH speed rating for trailers today. How many times have you seen a light boat trailer cruising down the interstate at 75 MPH? Something to think about when you're cruising down the road on your trike, trailer in tow, at 70.
