BTW I am not affiliated to the sheepskin trade, just a comfortable user.

    Default Seat Help

I have to remain at 2.5 inches or less in thickness and my seat is fixed. I'm good for less than 50 miles before my behind starts to scream at me and I have to stop and walk around before I can go again. I would love to take my stallion on some 4 to 500 mile trips but there isn't any way I can do that right now. Any suggestions.

I've gone the Mean City route as well as dead sheep. The sheep was just as good as far as I'm concerned. But it does get way too warm in the summer for me. Absolutely great in the winter. I've been warned about getting it wet. Fortunately I've not had that problem but mine came with quick connections. So if I need to remove it quickly...

The obvious danger in that is forgetting to do the removing, those AirHawks ain't cheap. I think it's Captron that promotes the Walmart cushion, I'd probably give that $10 deal a shot before I dropped $75 on the AirHawk.

You won't be disappointed, I love my seat cushion, that I purchased at Walmart....It works and it's cheap! Just pick out the size and thickness that you like, and that fits the seat the best

How many hours have you had in the saddle, and how long between rides? I used to ride bikes and stopped quite a few years ago: (I bit the road too often and got leery. Being very cautious is good on a motorcycle, but being scared and timid is not). After dreaming for many years I bought a Trike.

For quite a while I felt that I was _never_ going to ride without pain (skinny bum and ageing circulation). But like horse riding or cycling, your nether regions do man up with practice. But that means riding often and getting hours of "scar tissue" into your arse (and also your brain and how it thinks about the pain in your arse ).

I went from saddle to Airhawk, to sheepskin, to sheepskin, + Airhawk to _3_ layers of sheepskin (and foam), each layer cut to try to fit where I felt pressure. Then one day, from my mountain of sheepskin, I decided to cut back to one layer...and found that it was really comfy. My bum had toughed up....as it had for push-biking. (I have never ridden a horse: they scare me)
You asked me how far I have ridden. I can't go 50 miles without getting off of the Ibike with a sore ass. If I can find a way of feeling comfortable like I do in my car, I would love to drive it to florida and back and I'm in Michigan. I would much rather find a product I can replace the foam in the seat with instead of just putting something on top.

I didn't mean in one trip, but how many hours altogether. As I say your rear toughens up the more your ride.

To be brutally honest, if you can't get more than 50 miles without agony, no insert or covering will get you more than 70-80 miles, unless as I say you stick it out and get your rear used to the saddle.

My other suggestion would be a much wider custom seat, if you are comfortable in a car.

I hate to do it, but I disagree. My last 2 bikes I couldn't go more than 50 miles. One I had Mean City Cycle remake it with their double foam thing and the other I put a Ultimate saddle on. In both cases I could go tank to tank after. That's over 150 miles and more for both. Some factory saddles are just that bad and just about anything you do will help.

Please feel free to disagree! You are speaking from experience. I just don't want Greg336 paying for and trying this and that, and not getting any real result.

My Valk seat is very good as is. It's just that I got used to the sheepskin. It also spreads the load a lot around my bum bones.

I used a dead sheep on my current saddle as well. It does increase what I could ride with the stock saddle. But I now have a Russel Day Long rebuilt saddle and I'm going tank to tank once again. But just about any aftermarket saddle will help. Some better than others.
