I never said you couldn't teach an old dog new tricks, it just might take 10 times as long!
I got mine from J&P cycles with a few other things like the air cleaner that Jack mentioned in another thread and you said you liked also

I didn't think I would like having a heel shifter when I bought my 17 TG, I had never had one before that.

I contemplated taking it off but gave it a try and after about 2 months I got used to it.

Now a little over 2 years later you couldn't pay me to take it off although I am looking at an extended one.

Just looked at a 2020 Road King at the dealers today, and it did not have the heel shifter on it and it looked like there would be no way to mount one if you wanted it. There was just enough room for the toe shift. It didn't dawn on me to look at any other bikes because my wife pulled the reins in on me and took me out of there, Lol. I'm wondering if the MOCO has done away with the heel shift

Is that based on a photo or did you see one in a showroom? I would be shocked if they all of a sudden started putting touring models out without the heel shifter after so many years with one. I assume if they did the spline would still be long enough and set up for one if you wanted to add it, but what would be their purpose behind the change? To sell a $50 add on part later? Just seems like a very odd move to me.

Not seen any 2020s except for a Road Glide Special and a Street Glide Special at my local dealer. Neither had a heel shift lever. Hard to tell from the photos on the Harley website site but some of the touring models sure look like no heel shift lever. Just another way for Harley to get more $$ from our wallets.

Yep, it is all about the money.

Ordered a pair of shifter pegs from J&P. Figured I might as well get some to match my gripes (rubber/chrome). They were sold as a pair for $26+.

Package came within about 3 days. The box from Kuryakyn only had one peg in it. So I go on "live chat" with J&P this morning to inform them of their mistake and get the missing one ordered. The little goof ball types back to me that I will need to do the whole return deal and then they will send out the correct order.

I go through the whole explanation of why I need both and then ask "why not just send me the additional one to complete my order". He types back that they need to get my wrong order returned so they can figure out what the manufacturer did before making it right. I start to type my answer and he disconnects.

I wait until 9am and call the regular customer service. The gal (in Florida) is great and immediately says they will send the additional one out to me. She even apologizes in advance because it could take an extra day due to them getting hit with the hurricane soon.

I'll give a 10 to the actual J&P customer service. I'll give a -10 to the dim wit that they employ for the customer service chat.

I haven't received my order from J&P but I have to say when I ordered my stuff threw customer service, it was a ++10 also, we had a very good conversation about everything, weather down there in Florida, weather here in Iowa especially this last winter that we had, he knew about it from the news I guess, but it was a pleasant experience, told him I tried to call the store here in Iowa but it said disconnected, he checked and ask me what number I used and I told him, I was 1 number off, we had a laugh about it, told him I must be going blind because I gave him the wrong part number on one of the items and we got that straighten out, my eye doctor appointment in September I think I need it LOL

    Default AKA

I've got a heel shifter on my bike. Had one on all my Harleys. But now I have to have one, no choice in the matter. No toes, no foot, hell...no left leg. Truck took it off when he hit me on my Buell. I've learned to use my prosthetic leg to shift just like everyone else. It's a little odd looking, but it works!

The basic problem with the HD heel shifter is it's not ergonomically correct, just like the foot brake pedal.

You install the J&P Cycles extended shifter & adjust it properly, i.e. lower & you have use of the entire floorboard & the shifting is easy. The set up from the factory is useless, IMO.

Had a heel/toe shifter on my Goldwing but did most of my shifting without the clutch (wouldn’t recommend it on any other bike).

My Indian has the standard toe shifter and I like it. Just once in a blue moon when I’m zenned out enjoying my ride I’ll push when I should pull but it’s rare. I still like it though. Helps keep me ‘on my toes.’ 😏

Used to drive a Mack that had 2 gear shifts. You don’t go brain dead driving that!

I agree on the theft device for melinials. Goldwing has an automatic!! That should really put some interesting people on the road.
