Default Wow! It's so Smooth & Effortless!

For the last 4 weeks I've been riding my Softail & Sporty, along with a few other (Customer) 2 wheel bikes.

I've not been purposely ignoring my Tri Glide, just been riding the 2 wheelers recently.

Last night Mary and I decided to go up to Beale Street for Bike Night. Being as we would be coming home after dark, and riding on some country roads, we decided to take the Tri Glide.

WOWOWWOW! This is probably the longest stretch I've gone in 5-6 years without riding a TG.

The first 30 minutes of riding I was amazed how SMOOTH & Effortless it was to ride compared to a 2 wheeler.

It is one thing to know it, quite another to experience it.

The difference in how smooth the engine (M8) is compared to a Twin Cam or Sporty Evolution was startling. Power was delivered much lower and smoother too!

The 14" shocks on the TG are amazing at how they eat up small and large bumps compared to the modestly upgraded suspension on the Softail and Sporty.

Equally surprising was how effortless, in general, the steering and riding was on the TG compared to the 2 wheelers.

Of course, I "knew" this, but experiencing it after a 4 week lay-off was quite an eye-opener.

After about 30 minutes riding I was totally acclimated to the improved riding experience...but those first 20-30 minutes...what a shocker!

I'm really debating the 14" shocks ... I think the tri rides pretty well as I have it set up.

My only negative ... LOL ... Is I'm not sure I want to install shocks and a comfort lift again ... LOL ... Between the knees and the age ... getting on the ground is getting less and less appealing ... ... maybe a winter project ... maybe pay Don to help ...

    Kevin,

I have been off a Triglide since 17 when I went back to two wheels. I got to bring my 2020 home today after having stage 1 and a Pro Street tuner done plus Sirius xm, cool flow fan, bumper, air wing rack and custom dynamics tail lights and fron turn signals. I felt right at home on the new trike. Of course I am riding easy to follow the break in procedures but this 114 wants to run. Very comfortable out of the dealership. I will play with shock settings and start to add bling. I found I really missed three wheels. I may add another two wheeler to play with but will never be without a Triglide.

I too ride a Tri Glide and a Sporty. I enjoy both but there is no doubt the Tri Glide is more comfortable and mindless riding.

I hope to reach that point where I feel like the Triglide is comfortable. I have a '14 with the stock suspension. I have replaced the bars with Khrome Werks 2+2 narrow sweepers. A few times I have gone for rides that are a little over 100 miles. At that point I am almost crippled in pain. Back, hip, knees, shoulders. I have recently added a Mustang Super Deluxe Touring Seat. I haven't ridden more than about 60 miles in a day on it yet, but it is definitely an improvement. Hopefully I'll have a day off soon and be able to take it for an extended ride to see how much better it is.

In contrast, I also have an '05 Yamaha FJR 1300 which is very comfortable for me. 200 miles in to the ride and I am fine and ready to go. I'm guessing that the riding position has a lot to do with it. On the FJR my feet are straight down under me and supporting some of the weight. I have never liked the foot forward riding position. On my Triglide (and previously on my Ultra Limited) my toes are on the rear of the foot boards.

Sounds like to me you would be more comfortable on a goldwing trike. The riding position is closer to the FJR

Buying another trike is not an option. I put 34,000 miles on my Ultra Limited and was fine, even with the stock seat. I'm surprised that this is any different. (other than steering it) We traded for the trike because of the arthritis in my wife's knees. It was getting too hard for her to get on and off of the Limited.

Yes, the Comfort Triangle has a lot to do with being comfortable...this LINK has some info on it. I hope the seat works well for you.

Another factor is that these things are a bit like a tractor ride in stock condition. Getting the suspension into the 21st century can help a lot too.
