My #1 CC is a Dan Wesson 1911 CCO in 38 Super. It conceals and carries comfortably IWB when riding the trike or motorcycle. Do have to get the majority of my ammo online.

As an example, one major online supply house lists only 14 of what could be considered defensive loads for the .38 Super +P. As a comparison, it currently catalogs 97 9 mm Luger loads specifically designed for self-defense. Defensive ammunition for the .38 Super +P and the 9 mm are priced similarly but 9 mm practice ammunition can be purchased for half the price of .38 Super +P.
The same goes for .40 cal. and 10mm, the 10 being a bit longer and loaded to higher pressures. Practice and defensive ammo for the 10 is limited and more expensive than the .40, the same as the .38 Super.

Didn't realize .40 caliber ammo had the same conditions, not so much surprised about 10mm ammo.
Living in a rural area, on rare occasions I get lucky and find a few boxes of Cor•Bon defense ammo on the shelves at some mom and pop gun stores and pawn shops. They're usually willing to sell at a discount to clear it. Have yet to come across much .38 Super practice ammo locally, and I can buy it cheaper online than what they quote to order it....
