    Default getting anxious

Well, I notified the company I was going to retire. They said I couldn't retire from here until December 2020. Since they froze our retirement, I won't get any extra money for sticking around so I will be resigning on December 31st. Last work day Dec 19th. Hope to hit the road before Christmas if my house sells. Should go on the market next week.

I will try to live in a toy hauler for now. It's designed for short stays but will try to make it work. First adventure will be heading to Texas hill country after a short stop over in OK City to see my son.

Anyone have info on good campgrounds in the Hill Country area that are reasonable and still have openings please let me know. I have contacted several that are already booked. One replied they had openings but from the pictures you are parked on top of the guy next to you with minimal space...looks like the entire park is dirt.

Hope to see some folks I know and meet and make new friends while in the area.

After taking Hauler on a test run, I decided my Tundra may not hack it when I hit mountains so opted to get a Silverado 2500HD Duramax. I believe this baby will get me up the mountain!!

We stayed at Medina high Point Resort three winters 2014-2016 about 16 miles south of kerrville, TX. You are right in the heart of the hill country for riding, The only thing is you need to come into the resort with your camper from Medina which is south of the campground due to the switchbacks and tight corners on Hwy 16 coming south out of Kerrville. Best of luck to you.

Looks like you've got a good setup there.

Some folks live fulltime in less space than you've got in that rig. Especially if it's just you, solo?

Anyhoo, good luck on your future plans and retirement. I'd offer you to stop by the shop for a coffee sendoff from NH before you head out, but I'm likely stuck down in the VA hosp. in Mass for the foreseeable future.

Pete, that sucks about the VA Hospital. Hope things work out for you and you can get home soon. Sucks that You, me and Rosie live so close and haven't rode together in the past 6 years or so. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

    Thumbs up Great Set-up!

Wish you the best on your move into the best phase of life.

I retired in 2008 with 33 yrs as DoD Civilian, plus 2 yrs Active Army. When asked how do I like retirement? I always respond with, "it's the best job, I never had!"

Just as Dave said... but it is easy to come into Kerrville, take Hwy 173 south (Bandera Road), turn off at the Medina cutoff if you want to or go on to Bandera. Then turn back north on Hwy 16 up to Medina High Point...easy peasy.

LOTS of RV parks down here... and yes... they do get full pretty quick as the Texas Hill Country and South Texas is a BIG Snowbird destination. Keep plugging at them til you find something you think would work for you...then you can look around at others when you get to a spot. But I would advise to make a reservation as soon as you can if you expect to arrive in winter. Early spring is when the Snowbirds start moving back north.

Congratulations on your retirement and you are going to really like living in that rig.

Congrats on the retirement Dennis, I retired on 3/1/2001 and have not looked back. It looks like you've got a nice setup so I hope your house sells quickly and can get away. I also hope to see you in MV next year.

If I time it right and don't get distracted along the way, I may be hitting MV just about the time of the gathering. Sure did miss it this year but I was on a mission. Forty to go!!! A bunch of folks want me to stay until Christmas and New Years but I would like to be in OK by then.

Do you know anyone who has stated at the Triple T? Heard back from them, they have vacancies. Price seems ok but looks like you are parked on top of each other.

Thanks Gary, I should make MV if all works out and I don't find someplace that I feel the need to stick around a while longer. It's going to be nice to not have a schedule to meet. I'll probably end up in FL, GA, SC or even AL for the winter. I'm not picky but need to keep the cost down as much as possible. I'm hoping at least one of my classmates/friends in FL have a yard big enough to hold my Hauler and they will let me park for a few weeks at a time.

Since you've got new equipment, why not head further west to Ariz., New Mexico to BLM land for free camping?

Not many places to hook up utilities out there, but free rent might make up for that after you visit your FL friend?

With a small generator you'd be good to go.

Established/commercial campgrounds on the East Coast can get pricey really quick, even if you join Good Sam or Thousand Trails. Especially this time of year with Snowbirds fluttering into places they've reserved years ahead of time.

Gonna be a tough couple months for you for sure! Hang in there, you'll be retired soon enough...

I looked at the drone pic of the Triple T park on their website. Several sites are larger than a lot of them. You might check out that pic and call the park to see if you can reserve one of them. They are numbered on the picture.

Since you are new to RV’ng you will probably find that the newer parks are not as spacey as the older parks... you know.... squeeze in as many as you possibly can = more $$$.

I personally have hands-on experience with 2 parks in the hill country that have larger spaces.

One is Lady Bird Johnson RV Park at Fredericksburg TX. Phone: 830-997-4202

However... the bigger spaces are in the quadrant known as The Horseshoe. All other spaces in that park are smaller. Fredericksburg is 22 miles from Kerrville which is in the thick of the hill country riding.

The other park is Fort Mason City RV Park at Mason TX....42 miles north of Fredericksburg. Phone: 325-347-2064. The OLDER section of the park - closest to the Golf Shop is REALLY spacey. Mason is still in the hill country but sort-of on the outskirts of the heart of it.

Those 2 parks were our main go-to’s the 20 years we RV’d with the motorhomes. Absolutely loved them.
