Default Kuraykyn 7214 rear fender flares ????

I wonder, anyone here on Trike Talk used these accents on their Lehman Trike. Mine is not a HD, but in reguards to the fender opening, and actually the whole fender, looks the same to me as my '98 GTL's fenders. They do catch my eye but not sure I want them. I'm just at the "I wonder if they'll fit?" stage.

Maybe Lee H. Mann knows if they'll fit the curvature on the GTL's wheel opening?

The Kuraykyn 7214 rear fender flares are more than just chrome edging. Provides two-piece fender flares that add three dimensional depth to an otherwise bland wheel opening on the stock motorcycle. Features unique lines and a brilliant chrome finish sure to turn heads. Quick and easy installation. Includes (1) chrome fender flare right side - front section, (1) chrome fender flare right side - rear section, (1) chrome fender flare left side - front section, and (1) chrome fender flare left side - rear section; suggested for installation (not included): cleaning supplies, masking tape, and a non-permanent marker. The Kuraykyn 7214 rear fender flares are compatible with Harley-Davidson models: '09-'19 FLHTCUTG Tri Glide UItra Classic and '10-'11 FLHXXX Street Glide Trikes.

Sure would add some eye appeal to my Road Smith, with Amazon I suppose ya could order and eyeball them in the pkg and do a return if they don't look right.

I wanted to try installing the Kuryakyn 7214 Rear Fender Chrome Flares, but I was not sure how close they would match my fender sides. I would like to see how much difference there is between my Lehman and the Harley.

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________

I did take the chance and put the other pieces on my trike, but you need to be very careful with the tips and line everything up.

    I put the
Kuryakyn 7217 Leading Edge Rear Fender Accents Chrome, 1 Pair https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...SV3V7DH65&th=1

I had to use a heat gun (very carefully) to take a little of the curve out at the front edge of the tip at the start of the fender. Then I clamped them in place for 2 days for the tape to adhere. They went all the way across the fender.

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________

I also put on the Kuryakyn 7216 Top Fender Accents Chrome, 1 Pair https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...SV3V7DH65&th=1

The curve of Top Fender Accent was close, I did not need to use the heat gun and I could not use clamps to hold them down. Just make sure you put masking tape at both ends with center marks. You only get 1 chance with placing them, once the tape sticks you can't move them.

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________

On the front fender I put YHMTIVTU Motorcycle Front Fender Trim Chrome https://www.amazon.com/YHMTIVTU-Moto...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

This is a very close match to the Top Fender Accents and fit very good to the curve of the front fender.

    __________________________________________________ ___________________________

I put all 3 pieces on my 1999 Valkyrie Interstate with Lehman Predator Kit.

All 3 chrome pieces, really look good on my black trike with chrome wheels. I have the Kuryakyn tail light bar across the back of the trike, so I could not use the rear fender tips/mud flaps. If you want I can take some measurements and pictures.

Thank you for the offer of pics, etc. I have some LED lights already on front of the fender not too far up from the leading edge which would require me trimming the chrome accents 7217 and I have textured fender bras there too. The tops of the fenders have "Mountainman" pinstriping work on them too so I doubt I'd put the 7216 pieces on top of those.

I may just order some 7214 and try them for size on the wheel opening though … as suggested. I know my fenders aren't filled out like the HD ones, but the opening looks a lot like same. The chrome would tuck in behind the ends of the rear light bar , there's room there. I put two pics together to study, tried to size them closely.

I've used the high strength 3M tape with adhesion promoter … you are right, it sticks.

I know the HD side has a red reflector over the tire opening, I've looked at matching tear drop LED lighting in red for there. On my front fender lights, I took some 3/16" thick steel and bent to hug the inner side of the fender over to the frame to secure wiring to, it works well. Might have room to do over top of tire.

I was looking at the Kuryakyn 7214 instructions and found out that they are 2 piece and they attach in the center (over-lap portion). This looks like there is some adjustment at this point. See the instructions: https://maggroup.blob.core.windows.n...-21HD-0112.pdf

Yeah, I thought they were two piece, so likely they'll fit pretty good. I had a tough time opening that link, but this one almost "fell open".

    https://www.amberpiece.com/instructions/7214.pdf

I've also looked at the #7274 accents. Not so sure about them though.

I like the pinstriping on your trike. Did you make the fender guards?

I know Mountain Man, he did some butterflies and pinstriping on my girlfriends Vulcan 900. When she bought her Vulcan, it was a bare bike and I made it into a full dresser. I added a fiberglass fairing, fiberglass trunk and saddlebags, radio and speakers, heated seat and heated grips, Hid headlight, trailer hitch, CB radio, Led lights and much more. She calls it a mini Goldwing without reverse. The bike cost $5,000 and I put on $4,000+ in accessories. She made out because my labor for installing everything was free. Keeps her happy.

She keeps eyeing up my Valkyrie trike and has never seen it running. She likes driving my Goldwing trike and wants to know what I am going to do with 2 trikes. I told her the Goldwing is for trips and rainy weather and the Valkyrie is for show.

You have me rethinking about ordering the Kuryakyn 7214 rear fender flares, now that I know they are 2 pieces. That should make them easier to match the fender curve and that I can use clamps to hold them until the adhesive sets.

Well I just ordered the 7214 fender flares from Amazon and should get them on Saturday. I'll let you know how well they fit. It may be a few days, it's going to get real cold over the weekend and my garage has limited heat.

Thank You, Mountainman is from not far from here. We used to see him often at rallys & gatherings, they even throw him a party in his village, or he throws it? He first did pinstriping on this one and a mural on the trailer top (got messed up somehow but I forget the story, was already painted over when we bought it in '04), original owners of the bike had him first do it in late '96 or very early '97, we first met them and the chapter in Spring of '97 and took pics at a mall show, I see it was already pinstriped then. In '98 the owner went to Lehman School in Canada and comeback here as a dealer, he did the trike then and had Mountainman do the trike fenders, etc. We bought it in '04 and found Mountainman at our Va. Distric's "Rally in the Valley" and had him add some more, retouch some older, and add our dog's picture on the back. The lady half of the previous owner couple liked Hummingbirds, my wife does too. He does do super work.

I'll be watching for updates on those #7214s … anxious to see them fit. I know if they fit yours, they'll fit ours.

I made the fender bras from a textured adhesive backed heavy duty vinyl like is used for steps & stuff, very tough. Same stuff I have since used on the trailer top since it looked so bad after the lid's repaint messed up. I put those LED lights on 10 or more years ago, bought them at a truck stop. Had to cut the vinyl to clear the bases, but close enough the chrome covered the edges. It's removable with a little heat.

On another track, did some welding today, found out why those new rods I bought weren't working so well, I had the amps too low. It's my AC box, if I don't tighten the adjuster, it backs down to a lower amp setting. I was having fun, working on unfinished hitch part for my truck, set off smoke alarm, but good to see some good beads … LOL, but it's relaxing.

Outside the edit window, so just to add …. I have a roll of chrome mylar wheel well trim that has a black lip portion that "hooks" the edge of the fender, about 1/2" wide on the face side (long leg of "L") that you see. Thinking I might try that, do the cleaning with alcohol, adhesion promoter, peel & stick, clamp with bunches of small plastic / rubber shoed clamps I have. I've seen it used on tighter curves, I might even cut a pattern of plywood to "pre-curve" the stuff into the right arc (to fit the opening) but he short leg of the "L" should work placed against the opening.

What made me think of it, I was looking at my trailer yesterday, it has the same stuff on it that was there in 2004, it's stuck good too and in much tighter curves. Then I looked up on a shelf and seen that I have a roll still in the sealed box that I forgot about.

I used some same stuff in 1/8" & 1/4" widths years ago to frame the tail lights, it has stuck really well with no looseness.

Still, I wait to see how the 7214s fit your trike.

Well I tried on the Kuryakyn 7214 Side Flairs using some spring clamps and I found that they do not fit my 2002 Lehman Predator Trike. If you look at the picture, the front piece (left side) is about 2" short and the rear piece starting at the center keystone, is not centered with the wheel (brake drum), it's off to the right (rear) by 3/4". At the center keystone where both pieces are to meet, I have about 3/8" overlap, maximum overlap is 1". The rear piece can be modified to fit better, but the front piece needs to be 2-1/2" longer. The 2 pieces are close to matching the curve of the fender.

As far as the cost of $127.00 is way to much for what you get. The cost should be about $75.00 for the 4 pieces. I am returning the Kury 7214 fender flairs to Amazon do to not fitting.

I'm sorry, I hope I didn't lead anyone down a path to disappointment. I do appreciate the picture & info. Being your trike is black, I think it still looks good, but then if something don't look right "to me on mine", it bothers me whether anyone else sees it or not.

On mine, the rear "flared" part would be behind the faux bumper / light bar end anyway. I might try them still, gonna study the pics closely. I might be able to "rotate" them towards the front?

I thought they were to short for my liking and you could mod the rear piece by cutting off the under lip about 2" long and rotate it forward a little.

I traced the left side on paper, both pieces, as shown in the picture. If you want I will send it to you by mail and you can see the 2 parts and you could even cut them out to see how they would fit. Send your mailing address to deleted (my spam address) and I will put it in the US mail.

They come today … Thanks again!

I got busy and didn't get to "test" them today after the mail ran as I took wife out for Applebee's supper & Lowe's lumber run.

Got to keep the better half happy. I went to Home Depot yesterday to get 3 stainless steel screws, 6mm 2" long and 1 pack of SS. washers (6), and it cost $6.72, OUCH . Needed to cut off the heads and make them into studs so I could install some safety chrome held in place with cap nuts.

    Enjoy the drawings, Greg

I know about the prices on individual SS bits & pieces, but they look good polished. I use some old cookie tins for storing left over pieces, the collection grows.

    Looked
at those tracings today, Thank You.

Nicely done! I tested it against my fender, both pieces … my fender arc is a little bigger in the rear part, but it could work I think, I might use the tracing to make a pair of patterns full size from some cardboard to get a better idea. You saved me from "trial by order" though.

I also looked up on a shelf and there amongst other stuff, is a boxed 20 foot role of chrome/black fender trim. Unopened. I measured it through the clear wrap, just a hair under 1/2" (call it 15/32") wide chrome part with a hair over 1/8" (call it 5/32") wide fatter black portion that sits "proud" of the chrome, and it has that lip to go under the fender lip. 5/8" wide overall.

It has a lip and a black edge that is higher than the chrome to protect the chrome, guess I bought it to go on the trike & just forgot where I put it. Will try it first, since I have it, but I'm gonna check the tracing too.

I ordered the chrome molding that you suggested above from Carid.com and installed it on my rear wheel wells. Came out looking pretty good and I am happy. I got the wheels on and my trike is all done and ready to ride. I ordered a new license plate and got insurance. I just have to wait for the DMV. to send me the license plate and of course good weather.
