HELP, how to remove rust on Brake Rotors
Bought a 4 Yr. old FLRT Free Wheeler front brake rotor has rust on it, was told it was garage kept But it has rust here & there like to clean it up.
I found Rust-Oleum Rust dissolver Gel at WalMart tried a little it works But scared to spray the hold rotor. (spray it on wet surfice wait 30 min. rinse off with water hose) need suggestions what's best. PS: called Harley dealer they don't have anything.

James, where is the rust? On the face of the rotors or the drilled and stamped holes
If it is the face of the rotors , Bob is right. Ride it and apply the front brakes a few times, this should clean the faces

That part is shiny, it in the vent holes & surface I'm trying to remove.
That is going to be a lot of work
If you have plenty of time keep using the Rustoleum or try, will require lots of rinsing

Like jack said......Stick with the Rust-Oleum..... And you'll do all right....
Yep.With the..>>....A-lot of rinsing .....I have an old jar of Naval Jelly, And i used it on an old axe head i found at an 100 plus year old farm foundation ....And if you don't rinse and brush it well it will leave a white slag on iron...I had to use a wire brush to remove the slag...
Something you might not want to do on a rotor..And don't let it get on paint, Chrome or Aluminum or stainless steel......

Metallic/ semi metallic brake pads can enbed particles into the rotor. This is what you see rusting. Hell I have a new Toyota Corolla and the rotors rust just by sitting a few days. Run the trike hit the brakes no more rust. Until it sits a few days. When it comes time to change the pads there are plenty of options out there.
I'm gonna address the Elephant in the room ...
If and when you get the rust removed, you will need to protect the bare metal ... or like all bare metal it will rust again. To do it right, you probably need to get the rust off, remove the rotors, cover the brake surfaces (tape them off) then paint the bare metal. Will that guarantee no more rust??? Nope ... that's gonna be a function of the environment you live in and ride in. Even if you keep it in a temperature and humidity controlled garage, the rotors are gonna rust ... along with just about any non protected metal on the trike ... and that is without ever taking it out of the garage.
