There have been instances of individuals who were attempting to park, but not using the run switch to shut the engine off. They inadvertently let go of the clutch with their left hand to turn off the ignition switch and their rides lunged forward......some situations ended fairly well....some not so well.

Regarding waiting until the fuel pump finishes its initilazition before starting I have one question - do you do that on your cars? Most cars (if not all nowadays) have an electric fuel pump and even though you may not hear it I would think it performs similarly to the Harley's. And do motor police officers wait before starting? I doubt it. So as far as I can tell it doesn't hurt anything to wait but I've started mine plenty of time immediately and no problem. Honestly I don't think it matters.

I have used the kill switch on a bike just once in my life that I can remember .... after hitting a chipmunk on my 65 sportster hard tail and going down ... the bike was on my leg and running ... When the bike won’t start - for no reason....I mean you just pull over and shut it off to change your coat or whatever... and accidentally bump that stupid switch without realizing it. First is absolute surprise the bike doesn’t make a sound....then you start finagling around trying to start it... then the beginning pangs of panic begin to creep in while you are trying to remain calm and think it through. Then finally the realization that the stupid kill switch has been bumped. I’ve had this happen on almost every motorcycle I have owned at one time or another... it gets me every time.

Ok then, looks like I am good with either method and I am not in such a rush to not let everything cycle on.
My Indian doesn't have a key. Just a button to activate and start button. Need a fob or security number key. But I still rarely use the emergency power of switch. I just hit the same button to activate the thing. It's an on/off type button in place of physical key. I still feel the emergency power of switch is for emergencies. But if I hit the activation switch and forget to hit it again to power it off, it will power off anyway after a couple of minutes. That becomes aggravating at times when you are trying to do something new and reading the darn manual. But anyway, no red power off switch for me even though I don't have that physical key.
The only reason some people are still alive is it's illegal to shoot them.
