Does the Drive Belt Wander?

I don't really like starting new threads... I know there's a lot out there, but they seem to lose focus after a few pages of posts. Moderators, feel free to move this thread if needed.

2018 Tri Glide Ultra... Sometimes the belt weep, weep weeps... sometimes it doesn't. Today it's a scratchy noise. Yesterday it was quiet.

I'm gonna take it down the road today and check the belt position before I do any reverse action. My question is this;

Does the belt naturally wander from side to side as the bike torques when shifting, slowing, throttling up, turning, braking etc...? It would seem normal that it does, but it should find its way back to center under no load. I have checked the differential alignment and it is within specs. I really don't want to run it out of spec just to move the belt a bit closer to the center.

next step is to mount a camera under there. That sounds like a fun project.

Every belt driven bike or trike I’ve had the belt will wander a little bit and if you watch it while you go backwards It will wander quite a bit As long the tension is right I would not worry about it...

I agree with Bob when I adjusted the one on old Shiney it was only touching one side now that I aligned it it wanders a little to both sides of the rear pulley. Just to be clear I don't believe my drive belt has ever make any sort of noise buy my hearing is not the best either. travel safe Fred

I agree...... on a trip cross country last year mine developed a slight noise and/squeak,

stopped by a VERY helpful dealer and just a SMALL amount of belt dressing cured the issue!

I never needed it on either of my Tri- Glides.....But with my Slingshot that's a different story....That belt at times will scream at me, Very common with Slingshots...

I cured it by using a very small amount of dielectric grease on the rear pulley flange..

Probably will also work with the Tri-Glide's belt.....

45,000 miles on my Tri & have never heard a "sound" from it.. Maybe a little belt dressing on the sides of it like the other guy suggested will cure it.
