Default Opportunity to Purchase a PreOwned Goldwing with a Hannigan Reverse Trike Conversion

    Evening !

First I would like to Thank You for such a warm welcome to the Trike Talk site ! I am looking forward to getting to know you and this website. I am especially looking forward to the April, 2020 gathering in Kerrville, TX. It has been a few years since I was there, I enjoy that area. I look forward meeting some of you in person & riding some of those roads again.

I would like to ask for ANY information about the Hannigan Reverse Trike Conversion. I have an opportunity to purchase a 2012 GW with the HRT conversion done in 2016 or 2017. I have never seen one before, much less driven one. I know almost nothing about the HRT conversion but I am interested. Also, I don't want to regret if I do purchase. I am finding very little on the internet about this conversion although I have read everything I could find here on TrikeTalk. Any information about this will be greatly appreciated even if don't you have 1st hand knowledge.

    Thanks !!!!

Just be sure and take one for a ride. Good product , but it ain't a bike, it's different.

I have a friend who very recently bought a GL1800 Hannigan reverse trike. He has put a few hundred miles on it in the last few months. Had lunch with him and his wife a couple of weeks ago. He is really enjoying the ride. He previously had a RSV Hannigan trike and also loved it. I asked him how it handled in comparison to the regular trike and he said it was different but very stable feeling and handled great in the corners. He did indicate that he kinda wished it had the front trunk option but that he has a trailer to go with it so that was not a "biggie" desire.

I have an old friend that has one of the HRV Hannigans. He likes it OK. I can't get past the ugly look of it myself so it certainly wouldn't be anything I would ever have. But everybody sees things a little differently so it's up to the beholder.

Hi Montana Lee ! Thank You for your time and information in responding!!! I do understand there are numerous people that have the same opinion as you, my personal feelings are mixed. I know the time will come that I will need 2+ wheels, this is why I started browsing. I am looking for safety, reliability and comfort in a 2+ wheeled bike. You wouldn't happen to know if there is anything your friend doesn't care for about his reverse Hannigan?

I was in your part of the world in July, 2018. As I rode from Billings to Red Lodge I was quite taken by the beauty of one mountain that came into view that 1st day. Over the next few days I came to realize that I have never before appreciated the beauty of mountains .... or maybe it is just that the mountains in southwestern Montana are quite spectacular !

    I appreciate your help !!!!

Howdy Bev, Yes we are blessed with a very scenic area here. Regarding my friends Hannigan....he says his biggest complains are it's tough on rear tires. It's a long rig and heavy so some places it is hard to get turned around with. He also says he has to be careful about how he parks it. If it's on a little downhill area and has to back up, he has to get off and let the trike back up without him being on it. I have travelled with him some and never had those problems with the Motor Trike. It is lighter and is a shorter wheelbase. I even taught my deceased wife how to ride it and she loved it. We put over 100K miles on it with no problems other than normal maintenance.

That mountain you saw out of Red Lodge was probably Bear Tooth Pass. Truly spectacular.

Howdy Montana Lee, Again, I am grateful to you for the information about your friend's Reverse Hannigan and your Motor Trike. I'm sorry about your wife and I am glad to hear that you taught her how to ride it. So, maybe there is hope for me to be able to ride a trike. Over the years I have found that someone's personal experience and opinions given to me yield good decisions on my part. I am so very appreciative to you for your willingness to help inform me.

I do hope your winter in Montana will not be too cold for you and your's. Down here we can usually ride our bikes at least 10 if not all 12 months of the year. Yah, the Holidays usually slow us down a good bit but we are still very fortunate to be able to ride so much of the year. Who knows .... by spring I may be riding something with more than 2 wheels.

Again I Thank You Montana Lee !

You're very welcome Bev. I hope you find the right one soon. I used to live down in Arizona and you could ride nearly every day of the year down there. One other consideration you can make is that the Motor Trike factory is there in Texas and they are fine people. The Motor Trike Adventure is a nice dependable trike and not as pricey as some are. Right now I have a very nice 2010 GW with the Lehman Monarch II on it. It's a beauty but if I were to go back to long distance travelling as I used to do, I'd get a Motor Trike Adventure . They are independent suspension and ride easily . You can turn on a dime with one of them. They also have as standard, an air bag suspension. This is nice because you can adjust it for the ride you like the best. To my knowledge, no other trike can do that. In any case I wish you the best for whatever you decide on.

Just had to let you know I will be putting your information on a Motor Trike to use tomorrow. I received word this morning of a GW with a Motor Trike conversion that is for sale. All I know is what is being asked for it & the mileage is pretty low. The good thing is that I am not in a hurry to buy ! Keep your fingers crossed that I make a good decision when I do buy.

    OK Bev,

A couple of things to watch out for. First, be sure it is an Adventure model with independent suspension. And then be sure its a 2010 or later. If it's earlier, find out if the driveshaft has the new upgraded shaft installed. The early ones had a driveshaft problem. Motor Trike had a new one designed and built and sold them at cost for awhile so folks could upgrade. Maintenan
ce records are a plus when buying anything used.
