    Default Coverage Description

Evidently they use ‘general’ descriptions for what’s covered and don’t give a detailed list of what parts are or aren’t included that he could find. His example was the lubrication system (or something like that). He said he couldn’t find what exactly was covered, and this seemed to be the case throughout. To be completely honest I never read the H-D warranty, so I don’t know how they make it clear on what exactly is covered and what’s not. In my case I’ve never had a claim denied if something went wrong. The dealership just replaced any defective and affected parts.

Now this could be a standard way of writing contracts like this or it could be vague on purpose so denials are easier, I honestly don’t know. I’m not saying it’s good or bad. I’m just saying make sure you really understand what you’re buying, as you would anything else. Me?....I think I’m going to wait a while and see what others say after they’ve made claims. I really hope it’s a good deal for all of us so we can have an option other than the restrictive rules that Harley and the EPA force us to abide by.

Not sure this was helpful or informative, but it’s what I learned so far. If I get any updates or new information I’ll pass it along.

EDIT: Probably should have looked at the actual contract before posting this. The contract clearly lists what parts are covered, so now I’m confused as to just what he’s referring to. Guess I’ll be back there to have him explain his issues again. Sorry for wasting internet space!!
After 12+ years as the Finance Manager at a Harley-Davidson Dealership, I can speak intelligently about the H-D Extended Service Plan. Being that that contract is only used to cover Harley-Davidson motorcycles, that contract can be a little more specific. The Eagle Plans (Plus & Guardian) are used for most on-road motorcycle brands. That being said, the coverage language is broad to allow for the various components.

I have the actual contract booklet available for review here: https://www.motorcycleagent.com/eagleguardian. The main difference between the Eagle Plus & Eagle Guardian Plan is the Stated Coverage vs Comprehensive. IF your trike or motorcycle is close to stock form, we can utilize the Eagle Plus plan. The Eagle Guardian plan will extend coverage to aftermarket accessories that are essential to the operation of your motorcycle (Tuner, Engine Upgrades, ect).

In 2008 we made the decision to transition from the H-D plan, which is administered by CNA. The two main reasons for the change was the cost and the coverage didn't allow for customization. We now utilize (3) plans to allow the proper fitment to the rider.

    • $0 Deductible at ANY Dealership or Independent Repair Facility
    • 24/7/365 Claims Department
    • Aftermarket Component Coverage
    • Wear & Tear Component Coverage
    • Roadside Assistance / Trip Interruption
    • Cancel for a Refund or Transfer Coverage
    • Stand Alone Tire & Wheel Coverage--Purchase Anytime

We have multiple H-D Dealerships that sell this contract. If your dealer has any questions--please feel free to pass my contract info.

Yes the coverage is valid throughout the U.S. and Canada. We can provide a quote with the info collected here: https://www.motorcycleagent.com/quote.

Please input your "mileage" as kilometers. I'll convert on my end.

    Default Claims Authorization

If a repair is not covered by the plan, authorization won't be given--claim is declined. It is important to understand this prior to the repair being completed. There are times when a claim is declined due to a communication breakdown. If happens we work together to ensure nothing was missed. Remember the claims department for all Eagle Plans is 24/7.

Jim, first of all thanks for the explanation on the description of parts covered. It makes sense to me and I'm taking your response to the FM and see if I can get him to call you.

I do have one question about the contract though. Either I'm reading it wrong or there is a problem adding a tuner like the PowerVision. In the contract, on page 12, there is section that sounds like adding a tuner will void the warranty?

    e) software or firmware: update, configuration, flashing or reinstallation. Any installation use or maintenance that would cause the manufacturer to not honor their factory warranty.

    Am I reading this wrong?

    Default Eagle Guardian

The Eagle Guardian coverage will supercede this exclusion. This is the same for the 1st exclusion regarding performance enhancing modifications.

Upgrades such as Tuners and Stage I-IV kits, when properly installed, will have the contracts coverage extended.

Remeber these Eagle Guardian plans are effective from the date of ENROLLMENT. This is due to the possibility, this contract will be your primary coverage. (Factory Warranty Flagged)

Default Can you get the ESP on a salvage tri glide?

Quote Originally Posted by DK Custom Products View Post

There is a new kind of Warranty available. aka Extended Service Plan (ESP)

There are a couple revolutionary benefits, and one very important benefit that we used to get from Harley, that are no longer available from Harley. PLUS, it is less expensive.

    New Benefits:

    1. All benefits can be available from Day 1 on a new bike. This means that the overly restrictive, EPA controlled, HD factory warranty does not need to even be taken into consideration.

This ESP will cover "everything" from day one...no waiting for the factory warranty to expire so that you can get better warranty benefits. This ESP runs concurrently with the factory warranty.

Some will say this is a waste, they have paid for the factory warranty (when buying the bike) and now are paying for the extended warranty for the same time period.

WELL....that used to be true. But ever since HD got involved with the government on their warranty, they have so many restrictions on their factory warranty that many times it is worse than useless.

How can it be worse than useless? Simple...you put some non-epa approved slip-ons on your Trike. Then months later take it to the Dealership because a sensor in your EFI went out. The dealership is obligated to report your non epa slip-ons to Harley corporate, at which point the ENTIRE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY is voided on your Trike. The malfunctioning sensor will not be replaced and no warranty work will ever be done on your entire powertrain ever again.

With this new ESP, the sensor will be replaced, no deductible, and your entire warranty is still in effect.

    2. There is a Wear and Tear rider (additional cost) that can be added that provides coverage on parts where operating performance has been diminished as a result of normal wear and aging.

This is particularly useful to high mileage riders.

Benefit we used to get from Harley that we no longer get from HD, but do get out of this ESP:

It used to be that if we added a PowerVision, or cams, or an air cleaner or exhaust, that unless the part we added caused some part to fail on the Trike, then the part was covered under warranty.

eg. I add Rush Slip-ons to my Trike and 6 months go by and my inner primary bearing starts leaking. In the past, that was no problem, because the Rush Slip-ons did NOT cause the inner primary bearing to leak. So HD would fix it under warranty.

NOT any more. Since 2017, if the above occurs, HD will not fix the leaking primary.

With the new ESP, it is covered.

To me, as a Tri Glide owner and a Softail owner, this is huge. These bikes can get very expensive, very fast, when certain items fail.

Because of that I will not own a Twin Cam or an M8 without a warranty...But, since the factory warranty & the HD ESP have such drastic and illogical restrictions to them, it really puts me in a pickle.

By nature I want to modify/improve my rides. I want them to run better, more comfortably, more reliably. I want them to sound different, and look different. But since this EPA/HD marriage, the cost/risk of making my bike my own has greatly increased.

    Not anymore.

So, I guess you can tell I'm pretty stoked about this ESP. I've been hoping and waiting for it...and now it is here.

    Now for the disclaimers:

    1. I have not done a claim with them, so cannot attest to how well they perform. They've been in business since 1975 and they have an A+ rating with the BBB.

    2. I am not affiliated, nor receiving any compensation from them.

    3. I have spent a couple of hours going over their contracts and talking with a representative about some clarifications/addendum's that would be good for the Harley market.

    4. Last, but not least- besides a benefit to myself personally, on my own bikes, this ESP will allow folks to get some of the products we manufacture and still be covered by warranty that they might not have been comfortable getting from us with only the HD Warranty...so there is a potential benefit to DK Custom from this superior ESP.

You can learn more about it from Jim Palmer at https://www.motorcycleagent.com/

Great question! The ESP application doesn't address if the title is branded. It'd be best to discuss in detail (phone or email) and see what options are available. Being that you have a MY2018--I can get with the administrator with details prior to completing the enrollment.

I would "assume" they meant a bike that had been wrecked, or otherwise sold on a salvage title and then being "rebuilt" or repaired.

When insurance companies pay out the value of the coverage on a wreck they take the vehicle and have to re-title it. Depending on the state there are different titles for the new title. The wreck will then go to auction where it will be purchased for parts or to be rebuilt. But once the wreck has been paid out as a complete loss the insurance companies will not under write it for collision and comprehensive, just liability. Most states will not remove the salvaged rebuilt name on the title even if it rebuilt to like new condition. This category on the title decreases the value of the vehicle no matter what condition it has been brought back to. States can be different on how its handled so you need to look at the State DMV of the vehicle to read what the category means in that state. Some states will not re-title a salvage titled vehicle but will a re-built. So do your home work.
