Default How I spent my Thanksgiving

Well, I was all set to smoke a Turkey and do all the fixings for Mom.

The lady that does my sewing, a good friend, invited mom and I to a pot luck with her boyfriend, her daughter, her daughters friend and her aunt. We've done this before and it's usually good eats and good company. I explained that I had all the fixins for a Smoked Turkey dinner.

She told me to bring the smoked turkey and my pie and the rest would keep.

I talked to mom and she said she wanted to go. I put the turkey on the smoker at 1800 Wednesday and it came off about 1100, Thanksgiving. Dinner was at 1300 so that was perfect.

In all the hubbub, I forgot to take some pictures.

The dinner was great. We had a nice ham, and since my turkey was defrosted and I was smoking it, I brought the turkey. There was all the fixins, mashed potatoes, yams, green beens, my sewing friend made a cranberry and other fruits salad that was awesome. Her daughter picked up a carb turkey and carb cornucopia. We had gravy and stuffing that was made with a small turkey breast (the turkey breast, ended up going to the dogs ... LOL ... the smoked turkey was awesome). We had 4 pies, pink stuff, orange stuff, and cheery bars.

All in all a great day ... glad I wore some loose pants ... LOL ... I left with the "Full Baby Syndrome".

Hope everyone had a great day as well.

Sounds like a great time Fuzzy!

We had a full house here with our kids and grandkids. We did the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, baked corn and a cranberry salad. The girls brought a greenbean casserole, candied sweet potatoes and deviled eggs. Becky's Mom made pumpkin pies. It was a good day here. And our four dogs got to enjoy a some turkey too.

Just because we were celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with family this weekend doesn't mean Mother Nature had to bless us with a snow storm but she did. We had a feast of turkey, ham, meatballs, stuffing, salads, pecan pie, pumpkin pie and apple pie. Over 12 inches of snow with 25 - 40 mph winds and the winter storm warning doesn't end until noon Sunday. Now add to that the fact we're 130 miles from home and need to get back home to do final loading of the motorhome so we can head to eastern California for the winter early next week. We won't take the motorhome out and start our trip south until road reports show no ice and snow cover along our route.

I was going to smoke the turkey this year but woke up to drizzly downright ugly day and so I stuffed the bird with oranges, apples, celery, onions, and assorted spices and threw it in the roaster normally reserved for the tamalada (tamale making party)...Made my sage sausage dressing, and a cream corn casserole while the fair haired on made the green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, fruit salad, and pumpkin and pecan pies. This was our first thanksgiving in this house and we had a houseful BIL, SIL, Cousin from Ohio, daughter, grand-kids, step kids, etc...had a great time, and even ended the evening taking off the training wheels on my "some day to be biker" grand daughter's bike because she "was ready Grandpa!" Then today we did it all over again at the SIL/BIL's house with all there kids and spouses, grandkids and spouses, and great grand kids running amok...Another grand time was had by all.

Mine was peaceful and quiet, no guest, no messes and no fussing. But then again I only have 2 chairs at the present time and if I'm sitting in one, there will be fussing as to who gets the other one. As soon as the funds are in there will be 2 more chairs. What I had to eat was a chicken breast, mashed potatoes, veggies and sweet potatoes.

As an only child, I've always felt a little like I was missing something not being around lots of family ... and not ... LOL ...

Sounds like you have the best of both worlds ... I've got a bunch of friends that do the migrate thing ... and they love it.

Wow ... big feast, big family ... big times.

I've had a few of those myself ... to quote Lord knows who (Kippling I think) ... "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times".

I believe my dear departed dad who love Thanksgiving would say ... "The whole reason for the day was to be thankful for what we have, what can do and what we make of the two!" ... when I was younger I never understood that. Guess Mark Twain said it best, at least I think it was him, "When I was 16, I thought my father was the stupidest human alive, now that I'm 21, it's amazing how much the man has learned in 5 years." (may not be an exact quote, but the jest is there).

I must be getting older and maybe a little wiser, maybe not. I've been reflecting on all things Alan of late. For what it's worth, good or bad, to quote Frank, "I did it my way" ... LOL
