Default Didn't Bite On CVO Trike

While waiting for my traction control recall to get done I was wondering around Ft Myers dealership (Rock Star Harley). Of course a new white CVO Trike immediately caught my attention. Soon after the CVO caught my attention, I caught the attention of a salesman of course.

I tried to make it clear from the start of our conversation that I would NEVER invest over $50,000 in a motorcycle. He kept throwing out little hints....."we have had this one for three weeks"....."it is getting close to the end of the month"....."I could get the paperwork done and get you on the road in 30 minutes"......you get the idea.

Finally I told him my Tennessee buddy had a deal to trade his 2017 Trike on a white CVO for $24,000 difference out the door. This didn't make him flinch. He insisted they would make me an offer I would trade at.

I came really close to suggesting a trade of my 2019 Trike and $10,000 out the door, which I was pretty sure he wouldn't take. But then I started to worry that he might come close to that figure so I cut off the conversation before it was too late.

Next time I have to take my TG in for something I'm waiting outside!

I’m sure there are people out there who would pay over 50,000 for a cvo trike but I wouldn’t, I think 36,000 is too much for a non cvo, prices for just about anything are way out of control.

I've still not seen one in person. I took my trike into the shop Friday for the recall and i had them fix the lean it has. also they are supposed to fix my trunk door the handle seems to be digging in on the corners and blistering the paint.

Way too much $$. For $59k I can buy a new Corvette and have a roof over my head when it rains or heat when it gets cold. A/c when it's 100* + in the shade.

Great looking trike groutman, love the color, and so true Mikey, my first house didn’t cost as much as a cvo trike.

I look for the demise of the Mo-Co within the next ten yrs. They simply cannot seem to connect with the times. The younger ones simply aren't into the so called lifestyle. The Mo-Co needs to go back to basics and leave the clothing, the bling, etc to the aftermarket. This trying to be everything for everyone just isn't working imho.

To those who have purchased a CVO trike congrats and hope you get thousands of miles of fun.But for me its a no go,for 20-25 k difference for my 17 i can do a ton of upgrades that will make my 17 run circles around the 117 plus a ton of bling.

It has nothing to do with price......Money is cheap now, They will eventually sell everyone they make......What they are losing is people including me [After owning 4 new Harleys] who are still willing to put up with the same problems Harley has with making the buyer do the free Research and Development......And then still deny that there is a problem..

I know my dealer said when they first announce a CVO trike they sold both of them right off the bat. Dealer said each dealer only gets 2 CVO's per dealer, not sure if this is right or not, just what he said. I still haven't seen one yet in person, but it has been 2 weeks since I have been at the dealer, the 2 they sold one was taking it right away and the other according the person that bought it said they can display it on showroom floor until spring as long as it is roped off and no one can get close to it.

As far as the regular 2020's haven't seen those yet either. They still had a few 2019's left if I remember right

    All for now Trampas

P.S. Might consider a CVO in later years if they come down in price and I'm not looking for harley to do that so I guess I won't be getting one

Glad you escaped with your bank account intact.

Rather than a CVO, I would rather buy a basic unit and mod it to my needs & desires.

Yep, no doubt they are in trouble...and they know it. Lots of new models coming out to appeal to their "non-base" as they try and build a new base.

Regarding clothing and bling...I know of several dealership (which are in business to make $) that make far more profit off their clothing than they do from bike or part sales.

If you'll indulge a grumpy old man here. (still a couple years away from retirement so I get to see day to day stuff at work). Younger generation doesn't want to ride the way we did when we were younger. Kids today don't even want to drive cars, let alone bikes because if they're driving, they can't be texting their friends, on social media or playing video games on their phone. It is ALL ABOUT THE PHONE with the younger generation. The kids nowadays would rather take an Uber so they can be on their phone, they don't want to be mechanics because they can't be on their phone and if they could avoid work altogether so they could be on their phone, they would. I think that's why the political candidates that want to give away everything for free appeal to kids, so they can stay on their phones. The old school of going from a mini bike to a dirt bike to a street bike to maybe a touring bike is long gone and I think eventually the motorcycle lifestyle will be a sad memory. I think Harley is leading the decline and the other mfg's will follow.

Unfortunately, I think you are completely right Elwood, a lot of things I believe will be completely different, and the young uns not riding motorcycles will be one the the small ones. The country as we know it will soon cease to exist. It’s a sad state of affairs we are in.

At the beginning of the 2019 riding season, I set aside the money to trade my '17 TG for a '20. Then I got to thinking of the items I have on my trike that have been added. Also, thinking that as I get older I will probably not be riding as much. It now has 45k+ miles on it and should do me just fine for a number of years. I did take half of the money I set aside and upgraded my '19 car that I had for 10 months for a '20 suv. The other half of the money I am going to use for trike things and maintenance. Some attitudes helped with this decision.

The country will still be here.....Motorcycles are just toys..Dangerous ones at that..... ;.The country will be run by people who don't want to get Boo-Boo's.....

Let's face it if Motorcycles were just invented yesterday they would be outlawed tomorrow.....Like cap guns and M-80's.....Next thing you'll know those dangerous plastic straw's will be next....

Had an interesting conversation with another buddy who lives up in Alabama and rides a 2017 Trike. He said he remembers reading an article in some motorcycle mag that said when the new CVO Trikes hit the dealerships that the MSRP would be less than $49,000.

If that is the case then do the dealers have $35,000 or less invested in them? Every dealership that I have heard of who has a Trike CVO in their showroom is asking between $54,000 and $58,000 before fees and taxes.
Current: 2019 Trike (custom 130ci T-Man kit with Darkhorse bottom end)

Probably best ... I've been avoiding the dealer at all cost ... not sure I could resist the white one ... I am saving money to get the Fat Bottom Girl painted though ...

The chrome plated extensiion cord alone would cost you $50,000.00.
