I want to change my antenna to a 4" stubby. Has anyone done this ? Were there any issues with reception?

I changed mine out to the Harley stubby which is about 12 to 15 inchs long. Can't tell any differance in reception, but i live in the county and not to far out.

I put a stubby on my 2018 Street Glide Special because I put a detachable tour pak on it and didn't want to spend the money on the H-D relocation kit. I got the thing at O'Reillys, about 6 or 8 inches tall and close to 20 bucks. Fit perfect for what I wanted but I honestly can not say the same for reception.

We live close to Nashville and about 100 miles from Nashville the stations would pick up static, sometimes even at home in the garage. The stock whip antenna did not do that. And my wifes 2011 Tri-Glide doesn't have any problems with the stock antenna and static.

Also using those hidden antenna's on my 2008 FLHTP and my 2019 Tri-Glide seem to have more static. The cop bike has a Biketronics hidden antenna and the Tri-Glide with Road-Glide fairing has the H-D brand hidden antenna. Not sure why they put it on my Tri-Glide, anyway I think longer is better.

Of course I guess you get what you pay for.

Anyone I know of that has put a stubby antenna on has lost a lot of reception. Longer is better and they try to make them even longer by wrapping more wire the full length of the factory antenna. These stubby antennas don't even try to be longer or if they do they don't have enough antenna to warp more wire on them. So you will lose reception compared to the stock factory antenna every time. Sorry.

I swapped out the OEM antenna for an Arlen Ness antenna. It's 14 in long. Reception is close to the same as the OEM. Another plus is when I put the cover on the trike, It's flexible and I can hook it under the luggage rack. The Ness antenna can be had for under $20

Have to agree that "longer is better". I have all three sizes and tried them all on my 16. The stubby being such bad reception I rarely put it on anymore. I generally run with my OEM but once and awhile I put a longer one on I had on a 2009 Ultra that is probably a foot longer than what Harley has now. It gets really good reception.

I agree my old one's work best for us as well Harley got the 09's right anyway may need to up grade the radio soon however, seems to be weak and spotty reception. ride safe Fred
