Major Mexico Travel Warning Just Issued ......... US Dpt of State

A little late for some ......... The U.S. State Department has issued a travel advisory to anyone traveling to Mexico soon.The advisory for Mexico has been upgraded to level 2, which encourages travelers to “exercise increased caution.”

The Department issued a list of places travelers should avoid or reconsider travel to:

Do Not Travel To:

• Colima state due to crime.
  
• Guerrero state due to crime.
  
• Michoacán state due to crime.
  
• Sinaloa state due to crime.
  
• Tamaulipas state due to crime and kidnapping.
  

Reconsider Travel To:

• Chihuahua state due to crime.
  
• Coahuila state due to crime.
  
• Durango state due to crime.
  
• Jalisco state due to crime.
  
• Mexico state due to crime.
  
• Morelos state due to crime.
  
• Nayarit state due to crime.
  
• Nuevo Leon state due to crime.
  
• San Luis Potosi state due to crime.
  
• Sonora state due to crime.
  
• Zacatecas state due to crime.
  

It also has a checklist of what you should be aware of should you decide to travel to Mexico:

• Keep your traveling companions and family back home informed of your travel plans. If separating from your travel group, send a friend your GPS location. If taking a taxi alone, take a photo of the taxi number and/or license plate and text to a friend.
  
• Use toll roads when possible and avoid driving alone or at night. In many states, police presence and emergency services are extremely limited outside the state capital or major cities.
  
• Exercise increased caution when visiting local bars, nightclubs, and casinos.
  
• Do not display signs of wealth, such as wearing expensive watches or jewelry.
  
• Be extra vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs.
  
• Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
  
• Follow the Department of State on Facebook and Twitter.
  
• Review the Crime and Safety Reports for Mexico.
  
• Prepare a contingency plan for emergency situations.

Why not ? Thousands of your brown brothers and sisters make the trip every year around Christmas. There is a reason the TX Dept of Public Safety refers to I-35 from Dallas/Ft Worth to Laredo as the Mexican 500.

Yep........Half of Mexico is fighting to come to the USA....Why would anyone want go where half of the Mexicans don't want to be.......Oh, Yea things are cheeper in Mexico..

Wife and I just discussed going on a Mex vacation next winter, Hope bad things die down very soon......... But we do all inclusives clubs, and not just wander around freely, I wonder if that matters???????????

Actually they have done that for years. I flew down to Acapulco with my parents in 1978 or 79. They had the armed guards all over the grounds of the Princess Hotel and the beach area adjacent to it. First time I had ever seen that. Made me feel a little uneasy. On the other hand, Mother and Daddy were pleased to see them - they had been down there several times staying at my uncle's private villa prior to having me accompany them.

I wasn't afraid of the guards but afraid to NOT be near them!

Not sure when you were in Diego last. Most likely not like it was back in the 60/70 yrs. City has really cleaned up and removed most of the slops. Hell, I damn near got lost trying to find MCRD main gate.
