Cool Greetings, new forum member interested in your responses to my intended TG

    First post.

Well I am here and have enjoyed all of the information on the threads I have read so far.

    Some background:

First off,I am very fortunate to be on planet earth as I was hit by a car head on in my lane of travel in 2007 as I was riding home (a mile from home). Driver had no insurance, no license and a borrowed car (no arrest ho hum).

I was lucky to survive but as I was ATGATT, that saved my life.

Moving on (that's an old song by Bad Co)!

The accident had left me with punctured lungs, knee issues and numerous other problems. Once I was recovered (3 months) I got back on my other 2 wheel steed (I had a spare bike) and rode again.

Now in 2020 I am fully aware that my knees/leg strength isn't what it used to be and want a change.

    Drum roll:

Walked into a local Harley Dealer (never been in one before) and looked at the white CVO TG...OMG what a great looking machine. Really impressed with the whole experience in the dealership thus far.

My question to you folks is this:

What would you do, purchase the CVO or another trike?

Thanks for reading and ride safe.

    Jon.

PS: I would like honest opinions as I am not a person that gets upset easily (as you can probably tell), peace.

Jon, welcome to Trike Talk. Glad you joined us. As for the CVO Tri-Glide if that does it for you and you can swing the price then definitely go for it.

First a warm WELCOME to TT, there are a GREAT bunch of people on this forum ad a WEALTH of fabulous information, Second the choice that you are about to make is

really a personal preference-many, many people on here would LOVE to have the new

this year CVO trike (myself included)!

l’ve been on motors for over 50 years now and have both a 2-wheeler and a 2020 HD

trike and as many will acknowledge AGE takes it toll-I ride the trike more/more and

    LOVE it.

Give it some good thought and gather as much info as you can, I think you will NOT

    regret acquiring a THREE WHEELER!

BTW: I’m right over here in Pendleton, Oregon, HOPEFULLY we can meet up!

    Pete.

If you want to make the trike your own, just get a non cvo, part of the fun in owning a harley is making it your own., but with that being said the cvo is a beautiful trike and it doesn’t take that many big upgrades to get a regular trike to a cvo price. Either way to go I think you will be extremely happy. Don’t pay over list price for either one. Good luck and welcome to trike talk

    Appreciate the response.

The dealer has been great and I am not going to pay sticker price...along with no set up or freight fees, just tax and license fees.

The trike is a thing of beauty, that's all I can say right now.

Great advice as I like to tinker, but the CVO is really nice as it stands.

I personally own a 2016 Tri Glide. With that said: If all you want is a Harley Davidson then the CVO is top of the line. But like others have said, buying the base Tri Glide and adding what you want to make it your own, is preferable to a lot of people.

Also, their is other Trike conversion manufactures out there. Mostly Honda Goldwing is the most converted by Hannigan. California Side Car and Motortrike. The Honda Goldwing 1800 has reputation of being bullet proof. Also, these other conversions have the advantage of having independent axle. Which make for a smoother ride. I would look at these, just get full spectrum of what is out there. You should test ride all of them to make your decision.

Whatever you decide, you will eventually make it your own.

    Great advice.

Not many choices here in WA State but the GW was on my list of "look see".

I haven't "signed anything yet" relating to the TG so I may have time to travel and look at other options.

Jon, Trikes is all about what makes the WOW in you when you see it. Also your choice of what kind depends a lot on what you want to do or not to your trike. The CVO is a GREAT choice for someone that wants a trike that has a full factory warrantee and already has most of the bells and whistles that people want. If it makes your heart go pitter patter then "GO FOR IT"

Welcome to the Forum! I love my 2019, the 2020 CVO model is top of the line. Many $$$$$ though but if money is not an issue, go for it.

I had issues with my balance and knee so I went to a trike as my Electra Glide was getting too heavy at stops and low speed parking lot, did not want it to go over on me.

I have a few other smaller 2 wheel bikes that I enjoy and ride (Sportster, Honda VFR & Yamaha FJ-09). However, the Trike is my favorite for longer distance riding.

I am sure you will enjoy whatever Trike you decide on, post pictures when you get one.

As you have aptly stated the CVO did make my heart go "pitter patter".

I really haven't seen trikes up close and personal and have little knowledge of these beasts. However, I have researched this and other forums (I became a member here because I felt a genuine warmth amongst other members) so I could get a little knowledge and make an educated guess as to what to purchase. My research included Honda GW, Can Am etc. On another forum, one member advised another poster that "converted" bikes may not be serviced at other dealers for one reason or another, probably liability, who knows!

I have never owned a white bike and certainly to my knowledge never had much chrome on a machine, but the bike looks so well presented that I couldn't look the other way.

The trunk has massive space and the top box (tour box maybe) has an LED light inside along with a 12V outlet. I started to price the various options that I could fit and it is quite close to the price of the CVO if you included labor. I do most of my wrenching but I have a major problem with both hands at the moment that will require surgery.

The fit and finish on the HD TG is absolutely amazing, better than my Beemer by a long shot. I am really impressed with the whole HD experience so far. The 2020 also had the recall done on the back brakes (software related) as I got this checked today.

    Jon.

    Roger,

Like your Sportster, Honda VFR & Yamaha FJ-09 scoots, and of course your 2019 trike choices.

Still have a 2019 R1250GS to play with, so I can always go back and try and learn to ride 2 wheels again!

Thanks for taking time to post and as soon as I am able I will post up some pictures.

    Jon.
    Jon,

Learning to ride a Trike after 50 years of riding two wheel was a bit of a learning curve for me. Took about 500 miles to get the hang of steering or lack of counter steering.

Spent about 4 hours in a school parking lot after hours doing figure 8s, circles, starts stops, starts on turning etc.

After 1500 miles or so it became second nature and I have not had any issues going back and forth between 2 and 3 wheels.

    Thanks for the info.

It was interesting that you were able to adapt and ride 2 wheel machines again, as this was the next question I was going to ask.

The sales person at HD today told me about a customer last year who rode off on a trike (after being told many times "don't put your foot down") and did just that.

Apparently said person broke leg as rear parts ran over leg, rode home, visited hospital and came back weeks later in a leg plaster to the dealer.

Jon the transition to 3 wheels has a lot to do with the individual and their past experiences. If you have ridden any ATV's and or Snowmobiles in your past then the change will be easier. Your have to steer both of them just like a trike. Most people make the change easily. Like mentioned above some parking lot time will go a long way in getting it done. Feet up a must. And know that your trike is wider than the 2 wheeler when you pull up to that gas pump. Don't let the change slow you down. I have only heard of a few that did not get the hang of it.

    Welcome, Jon!

The issue you mentioned with a conversion is the dealer will probably only work on the bike part. The trike conversion part will have to be worked on elsewhere & that could be a problem on a trip. The whole Triglide can be worked on by the dealer. May not be an issue for you if you do your own work, something to consider.

I have a 16 and have a blast on it. I could buy a new CVO or even a regular 2020, but do not want to have that much invested and my 16 is modded some and paid for with 29k miles.

All that said, your money & your wishes, go for it if you want it! Good luck in your adventure!
