    Default Removing the cat.

    Is there any benefits to removing the catalytic converter, can't get a straight answer, yays and nays are about equal on YouTube, my trike has a stage 1 intake and V&H slip ons I don't know if it was remapped, hell , it might not have a cat ? Thanks guys, been out of the bike scene for about 22 years. Thanks....

    Give us some more info on your trike, year and model, and what you would like to accomplish by removing the cat, more power?, heat reduction?, there are a lot of very smart and knowledgeable people on this forum that will help you out, and by the way, welcome to trike talk

    2010 tri glide ultra classic, bought it used last spring, a little over 20,000 miles, beautiful bike, well maintained, lots of add ons , not sure what mods were done , people asks me , have you done this, have you done that? Feels like there is a secret list of add ons and mods that guys do to their bikes automatically that I don't know, I don't know what actually has been done to it, gonna get with the salesman to see if I can get more info.

    I may be wrong but I think I remember post years ago saying the converter in the head pipe started in 2010 models. Before that for several years, some models had them in the mufflers I believe. I am sure someone will confirm this as right or wrong.
    16 TGU Mysterious Red / Velocity Red. FM Ceramic Head pipe and FM E-Series tunable exhaust. PV Target Tune-AT WB Tuner. DK Outlaw 606 AC with EBS, Ward’s FCS fans. DK Custom Oil filter/Cooler relocation kit, Comfort Lift and 14 inch shocks. DK tank lift, wind deflectors, floorboard extenders, and tour pak relocator. Chrome TGU wheels. Bad Ass Lights tail lights. Lighted controls and Krome Works 2+2 narrow handle bars.

    Lol , yeah, I'm pretty sure the cat would be in the header pipe , just past the o2 censors , all kinds of threads and videos of guys cutting a rectangular window in the pipe, gutting out the cor and welding the peice back in , I'm going to get under mine and see if that was done , there's really no problems, bikes runs good, don't know if it gets too hot, like I said I just get the impression there are things guys do automatically to every bike they get , to enhance performance or longevity, I would probably be geared more towards the longevity myself .

    Hi Mark, welcome.

    The cat is where you said, just behind the O2 sensors on the 2010 model.

    If yours is NOT running hot, there were things done to it. Mine was almost unbearable when I got it.

    Like MDF48 I put on a FuelMoto ceramic decatted headpipe, a PowerVision tuner and other goodies to help cool it down.

    If you decide it needs to be removed, check E-Bay.. Guy on there exchanges stock pipe + $$ for one removed.

    Default I have a 2016 triglide

    The first Mod I made was a de catted header pipe! That header was hotter than all blazes and read 472 deg. f; in the Arizona sun at 105 degrees it felt like my elbow was on fire! the same time a pair of stock 2015 mufflers off my 2015 Freewheeler were gutted and added. They don't stick out as far as my stock mufflers did!

    The pipes were loud but enjoyable and the throttle response was Quicker; did loose some bottom end but not much.

    Power seemed a bit better and definitely a cooler header. No more burning right elbow.

    Next was to add the 2-5/8 torque plates from DK Customs (Thanks Kevin). Mounted 2" in from the back of the gutted mufflers! Test ride put a big smile on my face! There was a definite increase in power and a deeper tone to the pipes

    Seat of the pants meter says wow They Work!

    Next was a 606 air cleaner from DK customs with a remote breather. It improved some more! After some test runs an FP3 tuner was installed! Wow what an increase!

    The trike also has an oil cooler and remote oil filter; 1.5" tank lift and the black DK wind deflectors; very rarely do my fans kick on when stopped! All the 107's fans kick on every time they stop! In the summer time!

    Yes that Cat makes things very hot and is restrictive! When the cat only is removed from a lot of bikes around here you can feel a difference in throttle response!

    Before my trike I had a 2014 Streetglide, the wife always complained about the heat on the right foot and that was where the cat was. I removed the exhaust and 02 senser and drilled out the cat with a 1 1/4 inch x 18" paddle bit. Seen it done on utube somwhere. Took about 30 min. put everything back togeather and that took care of the heat issue, bike sounded better and ran better to me. I was out of warranty already. Now Im sure the trike will be next.
