First let me make it clear that I have no problem with companies making money on what they sell and I know that companies that develop a product have a lot of time and research into designing and producing a marketable product. I know they have to design the product, make sure it works, is reliable, and produce jigs etc. to make the parts from when ready to produce the items.
It seems that two companies, maybe more, sell this mid step and they look identical and the price is the same. Having said that, if I bought one it would be from DK Custom Products. I have purchased a lot of stuff for my TGU from them and have been well pleased with all of it.
However, I just can't see this costing $500.00 without the floor boards. I can certainly understand consitter purchasing one and applaud him for doing so. Also people who have knee or back trouble etc. can justify the cost. I guess I will just keep looking for a used one for sale or maybe somebody will have a sale on new ones.
One more question, will the stock HD rear floorboards mount on the mount or does it require special floor boards to be purchased?

I had actually forgot about this .... seems I got back into old habits when I rode two wheelers for about a year in between knee replacements ... hope this helps someone ... it was posted by a member here ... forget his name .. Jim? James? John? ... anyway enjoy ... I had actually got in the habit of doing this before the knees and got out of the habit after the knees ... LOL ... enjoy ... I'm gonna concentrate of getting "back in the habit".
I actually modified it a tad by standing totally after each step. Made it easier on the knees ... not trying to hyjack here .. just bring back a blast from the past that help me with the old cranky knees ... might be handy for some that can't spend the $$$ for the mid step. I'm one of those ... I can spend the $$$, but, in my case it would be like $800 by time I purchased a matching Kuryakyn passenger pads .. their like $300 a pair if I remember. ... Now that is crazy money ... ... they are getting hard to find on eBay NOS ... so I'd probably have to go to Kuryakyn ... I think I'd really like the mid step ... but ... I'd also like:
Mini Apes
Rake Kit
Oil Relocation and Cooler Kit
$80-$10K paint job
Well ... you get the idea ... ... Perrier tastes on an Tap Water budget ... LOL.
When I owned a TRI , I like to use the rear floor board to help me get up on the TRI.
Yes, I think it must be the angle, works fine with the parking brake extension that is an option.
It may work with some finagling without the extension, but the frame of the Mid-Step is really close to the factory position of the parking brake pad, even with the Mid-Step floorboard flipped up.
Works great with the extension.
Yep! Well worth the $30.
Kevin
Yes, the factory boards work fine with nothing special needing to be done.
The Trike Mid-Step is NOT something we make. It is a product we like and retail for the Manufacturer of them- Trike Mid-Step LLC
Quite a few years ago they approached us and asked us if we wanted to sell them for them. It is a VERY expensive product and my inclination was to decline.
They offered to send me one for free to test out. If I liked it and wanted to keep it, I would then pay them for it. If I sent it back I would not have to pay anything but the shipping.
I told them to go ahead and send it. I fully expected to test it, give them my honest opinion (which I thought would be that it was ok, but not really worth the $) and then send it back to them.
Well, I fell in love with how easy it was for me to mount and dis-mount. So I ended up keeping it and paying them for it.
A few Special NOTES about why I like it-
1. I have a bad right foot that makes any kind of mounting/dismounting of a Trike or a Bike a bit more of a hassle
2. As long as I can remember (at least 2-3 decades) I have always mounted a bike from the right side (high side). The vast majority of folks usually get on their bikes from the left side. When I try and mount from the left (low side) I get this weird cramp in my left thigh.
3. I have my handlebars pulled back pretty far, so using the rider floorboards to mount the Trike is a no-go, the handlebars are in the way.
4. When Mary is not on the Trike I can mount and dismount very easily, using the passenger floorboards. BUT, well over half the time I get on or off the Trike while she is still on it.
Before we had the Mid-Step, I would use the passenger floorboards and Mary would have to move her feet out of the way, and I would have to be careful to not step on her toes when dismounting (which I was not always successful at )
For us, the Mid-Step is definitely a solution for a First-World "problem". But it does make life MUCH easier for us.
I know other folks have other needs that make the Mid-Step a nice solution, and some have no need for it at all.

Yeah, I knew you were just a dealer for their product. I know it is a well made product and makes trike life easier for a lot of people. I guess I will keep my eyes open for someone selling a good set of rear passenger floor boards and maybe find a good deal on a used mid step later. Appreciate all you do to help everyone in the forums.

I made my own mount and order floorboards from JP cycles for 50.00. When I got done I had about 75.00 in everything. I used square tubing and machined a plug to go in to the square that the floorboard mounts to. They make it easy to get on and off.
Have you got any pictures of you working on the mounts longbeard, 75.00 is right up my alley

To those that talk about ‘crazy money’, I’m guessing most of y’all spent $35K plus on your trike. $500 ain’t that much to pay to make your trike more accessible to you or a family member. Especially for a family member.
Just sayin’

Scott, no offense intended, you you need them for yourself or for a family member they are worth the price or more, but as with most things they are way overpriced. At some point I may need them and will have to spend the price.

Would you share a link to the rear floor boards on JP Cycles for $50.00 please. I can't find the actual floorboards for anywhere near that on there site. I found some covers for around that price. Not saying they aren't there, I just couldn't find them. Can you post some pictures of the floor boards and you mount you made?
