Nice Randall. I really like the shape of the blade.

It's a burl of some species. Buckeye, box elder, maybe even maple. They stabilize the wood and dye it making it hard to tell what it is (to me).

    Thanks Bill,

I'll probably dig some more to find out, but I do believe that you and Frank are on the right track. That's part of the fun on these old knives is the research

My research turned up the type of wood used for the scales on the newest Fox knife, it's Moroccan Thuya burl (pronounced two-ya)

    Still looking for the other....

Man, they don't give that stuff away, do they?

I found a source online for it. Knife scale blanks $38.00. Blacks for turning bowls $119.00

I had never heard of it before. Now, I'll see it everywhere.

Lol...no they sure don't, I was looking at the various sizes, shapes and their prices. Was thinking about the pen you made me...

Crazy thing is, that knife was $23.50 shipped so way cheaper than buying just the scales

Spent part of the morning doing a light cleaning of my newly acquired fixed blade knives and new old stock Old Cutler muskrat. The 3 fixed blade knives came from an 83 yr old seller and I was lucky to get them all for under 100 bucks.

Kinfolks knife was re-handled at some point but did a good job of it.

Also included was an old Case, and a German made stag

Appreciate that Doug, yes I'm happy with them...they're not show pieces by any means but still in great condition.

They all had sheaths, thus the scratches, and all have been sharpened. I don't know much about the Case other than its post war, hoping to find out more as there's no other stamping on it

The Edge brand stag is the newest of the bunch age wise, it wasn't used much at all...

Randall, you are going strong. I picked up 5 knives today, Christmas gifts for the brothers in law and my brother. I did squeeze in a couple for me. Pictures to follow.

Way to go Jim! Looking forward to seeing those....

That's how Michele shops for other people...usually, almost always squeezes in something for herself

I've been working on a rescue from the bay, I picked up for 16 bucks. Seller couldn't tell me much other than it was old. Needed some tlc, but I'm very happy with the results.

    Default Knife for sale.

Before I put this MAC fix blade with right handed sheath on Craig’s List , I’m offering it here for $75 plus shipping. 1960’s - 1970 , it was in production. Like new wood handle and clean blade.

5 7/16” blade , 10 1/8 overall length. MAC knives are high carbon steel , made in Japan.

That's a nice one Frank, I'm sure you'll find a home for it soon. I haven't expanded my fixed blade count since the last post. But my folders continue to multiply pretty quick

I hadn't posted anything here in awhile so let's change that!

Picked up a couple of Ulster Knife Co. bone handled knives for a combined cost of 40 bucks shipped.

The 2 blade was in very rough shape, the 3 blade was only in need of a light cleaning and oil.

Here's the before of the bowtie or propeller shield knife, followed by the clean up of them both side by side. Other than some pitting on the topside (exposed) of both blades it is remarkably solid.

And the 3 blade peachseed bone is a great example, with minimal blade loss and pocket worn scales

I'm happy to show it off here to y'all...

I go to Habitat for Humanity Restore every time I'm in the area. Found this as the employee was looking for a space on the shelf to display it. I told him he found a place for it and took it from him. Can't beat the price. It's for a Buck 110. I have a couple that need cases.
