Default Clamp on Shock mount bracket for my suspension.

Okay I have spent time doing google and searching ebay and amazon sites, even Pacific Custom trike and few other sites.

I did not find what I needed for the upper shock mount bracket. Than I remember my notes and what I was going to do originally. Not something I care to do now because I forgot about SS steal bending or twisting some when welded. I feel I should have done welding first than the machine work so all was good if possible.

So I want mounting brackets that clamp on to the fork tube. Found some choices, but none exactly what I needed or decided I wanted.

Not sure were the other pic went. On this my mind was trying to make the bracket from this block of metal, it is about 1/2 inch short for the entire part, so I made this up with the idea of two bolts on lower sides and maybe on in the middle of the top channel, if needed. It is a slide up into position and bolt into place bracket.

But you take the same block and just do a half 41mm dia. and flanges to the sides for bolts and you have the upper half of the bolt on bracket. The lower clamp halves would have to be made from 5/8" thick material, so I would have two lower halves to bolt to the upper single part. The block is 1 1/4" thick x 2 1/2" wide x 3 1/8" tall.

Size: 926.5 KB I finally got it small enough to post. The solid channel can be welded or bolted ?? not sure. The other drawing I did not get small enough, but it was making the clamp rings and a base out of the block, it left a cut off piece that was of size to make a upper Channel piece that could be bolted onto the base if not able to weld it in place.

It will cost me, but the upper inner and outer edges of the tangs line up to the outside edge of the 41mm tube and this will allow me to have a place to drill and tap for mounting of the brake retention arm and the floating finder pivot arms. Left the outside tang the same for appearance.

So bolt on style OR just do the clamp on style, and than is this strong enough mount for the shock action ?

not following the drawings too well, but could you cut up or repurpose a used triple clamp of a junked bike with the right fork tube diameter ? I think the clamps were of good material and could be sawed and welded. Or check out pipe and tube clamp vendors?

The first drawing is of a bracket that slides up the fork into place. It does not clamp on, rather it is bolted down into place.

Than it hit me that I had 5/8" thick material that I could use for the lower clamp ring if I wanted to just make it a clamp on type bracket. That part is not drawn out yet as I was trying to find out what was the better way to go with it all.

They both had ones to fit up to 2 or 2 1/4" round or square tubing. 41mm is just under 1 5/8". Either way, at least they might give you an idea for a solution.

If I had thought it out from nut to washer first, well I might have made one part to fit then next, but some how that did not get done. From fork tube center to the eye of the shock is 2 1/4" distance, same distance of RPP to shock mount hole on the rocker. I am still trying to find that distance with a 41mm clamp.

I know it is a lot of machine work which cost $, but if I can not find what works for me I may have to do it that way.

I will keep looking while I have the time to do so. Thank you so much everyone.

That part I have to still see about. The machinst is a good guy and knows I can only do so much because lack of tools. I know it is his living, so I tip the differnce in what I was willing to pay compared to what he ask's me to pay him.

Plus he is a biker and likes what I am doing and getting into it a bit, but we will see about these brackets.

only reason i asked is i can make them probably be $125-150 which is why i said those were good prices on the others

So I did not make it out to the shop last weeek, nothing let me leave the house, but I did get out to them yesterday. I swapped some smaller plate for a larger piece, they will water jet cut the brackets out of this larger piece. The idea is to just make one solid piece first, than finish it out. I do have to cover the cost of the cutting out, near 50.00. I really do appreciate the offer stacebg, but he really liked the ideas and wanted to do one for me. Love the shops wth all the tools and machinary, like a kid in a candy store.

Wow, I seen those and other clamp on brackets, but just now I was slapped upside the head and I see how one could have adapted such a clamp to work for what I wanted.

Where the handle bar rod goes, a shorter piece long enough to have the risers attached to it and it would have worked, but I think I will be pleased with what gets made for me.

Thank you everyone, just wish I was looking more outside the box, LOL

So I hope all are doing okay with all that is happening in the world today. Some places seem to still move a bit more than others. I did get my shock fork mounts back from the machinist the other day. I have been working on getting the roughness sanded out. Like the cut of the water jet, but when rushed a bit it leaves marks, but I was 1 1/4" thick material. Turns out my design is what they went with.

I have gotten out of shape over this last year. Healing of the shoulder seems to have damaged my endurance level.

I am not sure how I finished all the other peices, my arms get tired way to fast and the work is slow going. I have one ready for 320 grit, and started the other one yesterday. It is pitted bad, and will take some time unless I power sand the pits out. I am not sure about this, but was thinking to work the 320 grit until I get a shine with it, no vissible lines, than hit the buffer machine. If I start with rough black compound and work my way up the chart I hope I can get a nice finish to them. My finder supports need to be finished out also, yes some work a head of me.

Hope all can keep bizzy and maintain their sanity as we all deal with this new virus issue. Keep safe everyone....

A good morning to everyone, hope all are safe and doing well. I have still been at the rough sanding stage. I just wanted to get some pitting out of the face cuts and try to smooth out the sides some. Still at it, almost getting ready to move up in sandpaper grade. I have to work it up to the 400 gritt, from this point on I should be able to use the buffing wheels to finish them out. Keep safe everyone.

Wow, thought this virus thing would give me time in the garage to work on things, I was wrong.

Family issues came up and turned my home upside down for a bit, now some legal crap, so all is still waiting for me to do my part so it can be put back together again. This is August, not good, was suppose to be on the road this month, wow.

Be safe and enjoy your ride.
