Shop Notes
Maybe I overlooked the "Shop Notes" forum? You know, place where guys & gals come to share the little things that make life easier in the shop, shortcuts, safety tips, unusual fixes, new favorite saw, dust collection, welding, TV yes or no, Shop Smith ideas & tips, stuff like that?
Like, just last week I bought a "double cut" saw at HF, has two 4.5" fine toothed blades of carbide tips going side by side, but in opposite directions. I tried it out on some hard wood, it cuts glass smooth (sand paper would roughen the edge I think). It really feels odd after starting it and putting cutting edge to wood … the blades counteract so there is no tendency to go in a direction. I bought a spare set of blades, have not yet tried it on metal but it's advertised for wood, laminates, plastic, and metal too …
What give me the idea was looking at the 1940 edition of Popular Mechanics Shop Notes (50 cents) and a picture on the back.

Wood Craft owned Shop notes. Magazine sales were declining so they consolidated into one magazine doing away with the Shop notes mag & web site.

I have seen those double cut saws but never had a need.
