    Default Spring Cleaning

    I lost my reverse last October right after Kevin & Mary's visit. Then I bought myself a little Christmas gift from DK Custom Products. This month I had saved enough pennies to order a refurbished reverse on eBay.

    Since my trike has 27k+ miles I decided it might be a good idea to remove the body and clean everything up and inspect the panhard bar and every other part in the rear. Having everything exposed will make installation of the suspension and reverse a breeze.

    When I pulled the reverse unit last fall after it went out I found the reason it quit working. The two bolts that affix the motor to the gear reduction unit came out. This is how it looked when I got it out.

    The circled area is what stopped a repair from being possible or allowing it to be a core which in the end cost me an extra $300. The thread block broke off. If you look directly across from the circle you will see what is missing. The motor still works, it just cant be bolted back together. My checklist will now include a check of the reverse unit to ensure it is tight every oil change. $582 total for this repair. I think I can take a few extra minutes for this.

    I found these bolts, one on each side. They seem to be for alignment of the rear axle. Am I right and is there a way to check the alignment?

    I think these parts are going to make Kerrville a lot more comfortable.

    A clean bike ALWAYS ride much better!

    I wash my bike after every ride, and when ever it rains in my garage she goes, I put my head phones on, krank up the volume, while listening to Led Zeppelin, (get a good buzz on) I take out that can of wax, and polish away........... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalife is good!!

    There is a procedure for aligning the rear end. When they did the drive belt replace on the 15 tri, they showed it to me. Basically they use lasers to get it aligned. That's been like 3 or 4 years ago, so I'm fuzzy on exactly how they did it, I'm at a point where yesterday is kind of fuzzy too ... but ... I'm guessing it's in the shop manual.

    While you got it that far torn down, might check those bearing caps that DK sells, beefier and if I remember correctly, when Kevin did his body removal, he found those caps where bad and developed the heavier duty ones he now sells .. might look into that.

    Kurt I did Old Shiney last winter amazing the amount of crud under there yes those bolts are adjustment bolts Make sure it you check the drive belt clearance when you make any adjustments. Good chance it is not in good alignment now measure and remeasure as you are torquing the bolts. on the pinch bolts on the rear end it is importantName:  DSC01115.JPG
