    Default Some Slingshot Questions

This happens every once in awhile, especially when I get bored or angry with HD .. both are true at this time ... LOL.

    Questions:

    1) Can a fat old guy (6' ~ 300#) get in this with some comfort?

    2) Are they closer to a car or trike in ride experience?

    3) When it rains, does it fill up with water? (serious question, not trying to be funny)

    4) I've seen trailer hitches for these, anyone have any experience pulling a trailer?

    5) What kind of gas mileage and what grade fuel does this thing get/use?

    6) Do these things have a reverse? If so, is it electric or mechanical?

My dealer has this one ... I love the color ... and the look.

My son and I each rented one last year while on vacation in the Poconos. No offense to anyone who owns one but IMHO If I wanted a vehicle like this I'd prefer a small convertible. You would be protected if it rains, have heat if it gets cold (I suppose they probably have heat. Don't remember) and much more comfortable seats. The slingshot I rented had very hard plastic seats. I suppose that's because they're expected to get wet. I'm 5'-9", about 20 lbs. overweight like most people our age, and it was definitely a trick getting in and out of it. As for lighting up the tires, they actually measured the tread on both rear tires before we left and when we got back. It takes zero effort to spin them. Probably could go through a set in a week if you're not careful. They ride incredibly low to the ground with extremely high seats. When coming to a stop on a "Y" shaped corner I literally couldn't see traffic coming from my right and had to rely on my wife. Fortunately we were on country roads so there wasn't much traffic. It was fun to tool around in it for 3 or 4 hours but I doubt I'd rent one again.

Some things were changed....The steering was quicken [Lock to Lock] They added a Polaris in house engine on some models...And a kind of Automatic Its still the GM 5 speed but with a electric shifter tacked on it, And some cosmetic bodywork added to the fronts open gap...Scuttlebutt is if these changes don't move more product in 2 or 3 more years The Slingshot will go the way of Victory.......

It will be interesting to see the outcome if it does survive. Some of the early reviews sounds positive but waiting on real owner reviews and comments.

A real head turner, will it survive, there's a real good question as usual time will reveal the answer. Vanderhaul is in the same camp. These are tough financial times with the market in serious red most every day. Producers with deep pockets survive, but will not hesitate to pull the plug if the product doesn't show progress financially.

My Bride bought a Slingshot the first month they came out in Dec 2014. I showed her photos of them before they even came out. She said "I'm buying one of those!"...She loves it. She even lets me drive it sometimes...

When describing it, we compare it to an old timey roadster, like an MG or something, but modernized with new tech.

She gets 28-30 mpg. We are height/weight proportional, so no real problems getting in or out.

The original seats are not too great, I bought her the Quilted Comfort seats for Christmas this past year. Much more comfortable. In sunny weather you learn to fold the seats forward when you get out to keep the sun off.

And put a towel on the seat.

She was jonesing for the big 305 rear tire too, got her the full tire/wheel set for Christmas the year before.

Yes it's 87" wide in the front. We normally have the TriGlide in the little 6x12 trailer behind the motor home, she would like to bring her toy sometimes, but I guess we would need a stacker trailer, then we would need more motor home to tow that...yikes...

Since it has a steering wheel and 3 pedals, we call it driving as opposed to riding. But you are still in the wind, no top, we wear helmets for comfort and also because we have the Sena intercoms.

Sometimes we take both toys out. I like to ride behind her so I can watch folks look at it and do double takes. Seen a guy about break his ankle stepping off a curb looking at her not at the ground...
