    Default Power Vision Question

Lately, my Power Vision will some times stay dark after the bike starts. Used to just power up with the start of the bike.

The odd part, if I shut the bike down, restart it, the power vision starts right up like normal. Nothing else changed, just turn the acc switch to off, then to run an restart.

Should be noted, I have done nothing to the electrical system or the power vision in quite awhile. Before I start trying to track down a loose connector or similar issues, just wonder if anyone has seen this?

I'm also wondering if I should use dielectric grease of the power vision connecters?

I have done the software update within the last month, when I was setting up the new to me PC for WinPv, while setting it up, I did check for updates. Good catch though Fred.

I have reached out to Dyno Jet, since it's raining today and it's giving my back fits. Well that and rainy days make me lazy. If it's nice enough tomorrow I will check the connections.

Alan afew years ago I had the same issues with mine. As it turns out my problems were with my wiring on my accessory switched circuit under the tank the PV line was close and was getting in interference from it. I used static traps to really improve all functions PV as well as the radio. Just trying to help. travel safe Fred

I don't kno how the new tires got in here but that is what they are Fred

FWIW, I have used dielectric grease on my PV, Auto Tune and Target Tune connections for the last 6 or 7 years on 2 bikes with no problems.

Had the same problem with mine. Had the Power Vision wired to the accessory switch connector under the seat. Added Love Jugs cooling fans and plugged into the same connector. Power Vision would intermittently go black. Disconnected the cooling fans from the accessory connector and wired them directly to the battery. Problem solved. Sounds like maybe you have some kind of electrical interference as was previously stated.

Dielectric grease on all electrical connections, including the PV cable (on both ends) is always a good idea.

But, it does sound like a wire routing change could be the cause.

Here's what I got back from Dyno Jet today. Lots of good info, if it ever quits rating so I can get the trike out, I'll try these ....

    My Question

Question_IssueLately when I start the trike, sometimes the power vision stays dark (doesn't power up). If I do nothing except turn the engine off, then restart it, it powers up and performs normally. Nothing has been down to the power vision or electrical system in many months. My first thought was a loose connection. I will check that, but also, should I use dielectric grease on the connections? Could the cord be going bad?

    Mar 12, 5:07 PM PDT

    Alan,

Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate your interest and support of our products.

It is certainly possible that the issue you are experiencing could be caused by a loose connection OR bad cable.

I wouldn't be too concerned about using dielectric grease on those connections. A touch around the outer edge to help seal it would be OK... But I have not yet seen those connections corrode.

If your connections seem to be fairly solid, definitely check your PV vehicle interface cable. If you have an ohm meter, you may want to be sure there are good connections from one end to the other. If you happen to know ANYONE else with a PV, you may want to briefly try your PV on their bike, and their cable on yours. See if the issues persist.

If the cable seems to be good, I would suggest that you also check the diagnostic port of the bike. Make sure those connections are solid, as well.

If all of this checks out good, verify that your PV is completely up-to-date. Updating a Power Vision is easy with the PV Update Client that is included in the WinPV (Power Vision) software suite. If you are unfamiliar with the update process, the following link will take you to a video we created that will walk you thru it: https://youtu.be/nhAbx5_rTLw?list=PLFAB410BA3DB1887F

If you do not currently have the WinPV software suite, you can download it for free from the following page of our website: https://www.dynojet.com/downloads/po...rley-davidson/

If all of this has been done, and you are still experiencing this issue, there is one last thing you can try in the field, to hopefully clear that up. It would be to perform a recovery of the PV. If you can connect that PV to a computer and communicate with it, I would first save any and all files you wish to keep from the device. Then, I would click the following link and follow the steps to perform a recovery of the PV. If all goes well, this will knock it out of its "funk" and allow it to function correctly, again.

Follow the link below to download a recovery file and save it to a local drive on your computer:

    http://dynojetpowervision.com/Downlo...B-0.0.9.11.pvr

Install the above recovery file to your Power Vision by following these steps:

While holding the “power button” down on the face of your Power Vision plug in the Power Vision via USB to your computer

    - You should notice that the screen of the Power Vision has many colored bars and says, “Recovery Mode”

    - Launch the Power Vision Update Client

    - Highlight “PV Firmware”

    - Select “Update from Local File”

    - Select “PV Recovery”

    - Point to the file you downloaded from above

    - Finish the installation of the recovery and then proceed to update the firmware and tune database

If this process is unsuccessful, feel free to try it a few times. If it is never successful in completion or does not correct the issue, please let us know.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us again.

Fuzz that is the same thing I got when I was getting interference on our PV you have issues somewhere under the tank. It may be a connection not the PV connection but another producing static that had not before been bad good luck. I just think your tuner is the victim here not the actor. I'll keep you in our prayers to preserve your peace of mind. Fred

    Default Update

Okay, so today has been really nice. At 10 am, it was 50* and sunny. There were clouds over the mountains, but decided to take a chance and just ride. Put on my new water resistant fleece HD jacket, gloves, my screaming eagle hat and hit the road.

Filled the tank, and headed for the desert . Pretty sure there is no corona out there ... maybe some empties from careless campers.

All was well for about 40 miles ... then the Power Vision went blank. Pulled over on a wide spot, removed the side cover, unplugged it, plugged it back in ... nada. Unplugged it at the Power Vision, plugged it back in, Voila, powered up.

Road another 10 miles or so and the same scenario happened. Once again, unplug and plug back in the Power Vision ... all well again.

This happened a few more times, so, I came home and ordered a new cable. Guessing when I pulled the tank to do the rocker lockers, I pinched something. So looks like I'll be pulling the tank once again ... yippie.

Look on the bright side, now you have something to keep you busy and you can even post pictures during the process.

You know I will ... ... In the mean time ... I'm gonna ride the snot out of it tomorrow so there's not much fuel in the tank when I pull it ... ... that dude gets heavy when it's full.

I ordered it Fedex next day ... the difference in shipping was like $4 and change ... so should be here tomorrow. Looks like Thursday is a pull the tank day.

Well, I was going out to do some more desert riding ... ya know to get rid of 4 or 5 of the gallons that I just put in the tank. But I thought, I'd clean up the end of the cable that connects to the PV and put a little more dielectric grease on it before I went out. When I got done, started the trike and the PV fired right up.

Did a little over 100 miles, stopped like 10 times turned the bike off. Started it back up and rode. Power Vision worked perfect ... ... maybe some dirt or corrosion causing the intermittent issue???

I'm gonna go ride some more tomorrow ... might not have to take the tank off again. I got to thinking, I'm fairly certain I ran the cord inside the plastic tunnel thing. I'm getting old, so I'm not positive about that ... it might have been on the Ultra Limited I did that ,,, same cable, same power vision ... different bike. If I do take off the tank, I'll make sure to run it through the plastic.

It does not surprise me the connections could and do get moisture and dirt intrusion considering the hostile environment they live in, I am glad you have stumbled onto a fix

Well, time will tell, if this thing does well until I need to take the tank off for something else, I'd be thrilled. If not ... the new cable should be here today ... so it will be ready to install if or when it needs to be.

Maybe, not sure it's actually fixed. I hate "intermittent Electrical Issues". I'm guessing before I go on any long trips (assuming we get out of lockdown), I will replace the cable with the new one, just to be sure.
