    Default newbee with a ton of question

    Hi:
    Got my first bike at 69 years young (last year). Since then have developed a hip problem. So I am starting all over again. The price for Trikes I have seen so far really scares me. So I thought of a kit. I saw a rather inexpensive kit at a recent bike show. Not sure of correct names or terms but this kit only adds 2 additional wheels leaving the single rear wheel and intack. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Or can some one direct me to the proper section.

    Thanks Tom

    Welcome to the board,, I see U have a 1600 Nomad,, U might check with Bazooka and see what kit he has that might work on there.. I am not a big fan of the kit U described.. But to each his own...
    With Hip problems I might consider a Stallion or a VW trike with better seating.

    best of luck in whatever U decide.

    Keep us posted on how things are going....

    Hi prider! Welcome to TrikeTalk <img src="images/smilies/grin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="big grin" class="inlineimg" />. There are a number of folks who have kits like you are asking about..... Voyager and Triax are two of the brands. You can do a search on the forum for "Voyager" and it will pull up a lot of previous discussions. Here is one thread to get you started:<br />

    I can truly feel your brother in laws pain. I to went the training wheels route. But as we speak, my bike is at the dealer waiting for it's ride to Lehman for the real thing. Now I have the cost of trike, 10.5k and the cost of my training wheels 4.5K, which I'm hopeing to sell, along with shirt, that's what I expect to lose on that transaction. LOL That's why I believe the right choice, will save your pocket book in the end...:Spying:

    </div>If you have a real hip problem and you truely want to "start over" you might consider selling the Nomad and going with either a Burgman or Honda Silver Wing. Both are actually real motorcycles that just "cross dress" as scooters!

    <br />
    <br />
    The best part for you is that the "step thru" mounting on these "scooters" makes it a whole lot easier on busted bones. And (<i>warning-warning, shameless plug coming forth!!</i>), the best part is that there is a "true trike" super scooter conversion available right down the road from you. Yep, you are just a short jaunt from the new world headquarters of The Trinity Trike (we just moved again and we're on US 19, in Hudson). And we have owners in the local area of both Burgman and Silver Wing conversions that we can arrange for you to look over. Feel free to give me a buzz at my office (218-789-6321) to arrange a meet.<br />
    <br />
    BTW, we did two Nomads early on, but dropped the line when they proved to cost <i>TWICE</i> as much as our other systems to produce. They both turned out to be beauties and dreamboats to ride, but darned if I'm going to charge $11,000 for a conversion just to break even on costs! For that you can get two of the super scooters done! :Biker:<br />
    <br />
    Here's the proof.....(click on the pic for Supersized)<br />
    <img src="http://thetrinitytrike.com\supercruiser\nomad.retired\ful l02.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><br />
    <br />
    It was one of my favorites!!<br />

    The key to the Voyager ( not sure about the others ) is the set up mainly the pre-load. The manufacturer (Voyager ) says 1/4 " under the rear tire . I finally ended up with 2"/ also the tire pressure on the drive wheel ( the middle one on the rear of the motorcycle ) I found that soft is better than firm. Maybe 30# I can't remember ( 5# less than the 2 wheel.) it is a way to get off of 2 wheels and it works. Unfortunately it may be costly as it is 1/2 the price of a full conversion and not really a sellable thing when you decide to go the full Monty.( true conversion ). Reason is it needs a different belly pan for each bike. Cost is $500.00. No one will give you the $4,500. Most used go for about $2,500. and that is if it is a match for the bike. Harley for Harley Goldwing for Goldwing (SAME YEAR )... A lot of nice trikes out there for sale .

    I just switched from 2 wheels to 3, I sold my Harley and bought a VW trike. I'm retired and on a fixed income, that is why I chose VW. Easy and inexpensive to maintain compared to most motorcycles. It used to cost me $70. to change oil in my harley myself. The VW will be about $10.00 Something to think about. Enjoy

    :Pepper:First thanks for all of the information.
    I have been going around looking at Gold Wings 2000 to 2010, 1600, 1800 cc including a Honda Valatire. With the exception of the Valatire conversion the spacing from the seat and the gear shift and rear brack, leave my knees in a cramped position similar to the Bombarde Can Am. This is not meant to degrade any style or brand of bike but rather a product of my leg problems. I have the same problem with the new 1700 Nomad. I plan on looking at the
    H D electric glide.

    P.S. should this be moved to a different thread?
