    Default Mobile Sanitizing Kit

Have to admit that when it comes to doing things for myself, I can be a bit nit picky and tend to go overboard.

So my concerns about possible COVID-19 transferring to me and then to the Trike after making fuel and restroom stops were a nagging concern. This had me thinking of ways to sanitize my hands afterwards and at a minimum keep the control surfaces I constantly touch on the trike clean.

I put together two Sanitizing Kits, one for the Trike and one for the Cages:

    • 4.5oz Spray Bottle w/91% Isopropyl Alcohol (to spray on surfaces before touching)

    • Pair of Protective Gloves

    • EarLoop Masks (for use as needed)

    • Paper Towel Sheets (to wipe gas pump key pads, touch screens & Pump Handles

    • Hand Sanitizer plus alcohol are applied to gloves before removal and restoring & finally applying to hands before remounting the trike.

Might seam a bit much, but it sure is comforting knowing that trike, cages and myself are sanitized after all stops.

That might be a bit much, but if it makes you feel better - go for it. It sure can't hurt.

I also made my own sanitizer = 91% isopropyl alcohol/aloe vera gel and tea tree oil. All I do is spray down (really good) my hands after I get gas. Not wasting it on key pad or handle. I do the same thing after going to the store. So far so good. I haven't been around people so I don't wear a mask - can't find one anyway.

I use my knuckles on the key pad and also spray my credit card before putting it away.

The ONLY thing I'm worried about is toilet paper. I haven't been able to find any for the last 2-1/2 weeks and our normal supply is getting critical. One roll will last me a couple weeks, but my wife has IBS and goes through 1 to 2 rolls of TP a day. Thank god I have all those damn H-D t-shirts that I can cut up.

Good luck tanker, stay safe and "May the Spray be with you" LOL

We can’t get alcohol, and toilet paper is obsolete unless you happen to be one of the first 15 people in the store. They do have a 2 limit per customer but i am a single person and don’t have 20 relatives following me to the store who individually check out as 1 customer each.

Several years ago, I ordered what I thought was hand cleaning wipes to use after working on covers (they have graphite grease and it really messes up tools and hands). Turns out I wrote down the part numbers wrong ( I am a tad dyslectic) and got three cases (gross, so 3x144 or 432) of alcohol wipes. Since I messed up, just kept them and ordered the right ones. You guys have seen these, they put them in with stick on mirrors and such, except these are like 2-3 times the size. They work well for getting the fuel smell off your hands, so I've been keeping them in the trike and the car. Filled the trike today and used one on the pump pad, pump handle and my hands afterwards ... might be overkill, but, what the hay ... LOL ... gotta use them for something. Gonna use a bunch to dewax the Jeep before applying the ceramic sealer.

I understand all of this, now for me I can't find the alcohol, aloe vera to make my own sanitizer, can't even find store bought sanitizer, hard to believe these companies are not producing more to get in the pipe line, have looked every where here for it and all out of stock, can't find any masks either, I guess I'm a little slow on the take, should have been quicker on the draw to these supplies I guess.

As for getting gas I will use a walmart plastic bag to pump my gas, I carry liquid hand soap, a little pump bottle of water and a hand towel to wash hands when done getting gas, the bag goes into the garbage bin at the station. I filled my truck before this thing hit so I'm good for awhile, the trike hasn't been dug out of winter storage yet, yea I know kick me, LOL

I was lucky before this covid19 hit, I picked up some toilet paper before this hit, so I'm good for awhile, when I do go to the grocery store I look for it, no such luck, can't believe how empty the store shelves are at Wal Mart, just can't believe it, this is not normal.

    All for now Trampas

    Here's a suggestion for alcohol...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everclear_(alcohol)

    Here's CDC's recommendations for masks...https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...coverings.html

I heard on the tube somewhere that a doubled up sheet of paper towel behind the T shirt mask would provide additional protection. Not unlike the bandanna mask.

We've had more success finding TP around here ( much more rural than Glen Ellyn for sure) at the smaller (Dollar General, Family Dollar, etc.) stores than at the big box or grocery stores.

    Hope this helps.

I have an Autoimmune Disease and I'm regularly plagued with Upper Respiratory Bacterial Infections and have occasionally dealt with bouts of Bronchitis. This winter's been a tough one with reoccurring Upper Respiratory Respiratory Infections and a painful Ear Infection. So I get panicky about just being near folks with common colds, and aging isn't helping my medical situation. Gonna have to make me a concoction using Tea Tree Oil. I do have have a good supply of Hydrogen Peroxide. But finding 91% Alcohol is near impossible. Stores now have an ample supply of paper products and Bottle Water.

Oh!...I was actually an Administrative Type assigned to Armoured Battalion Maintenance Shop Office. Tanks were nearby, but I've never been inside one.lol

Be safe out there and enjoy when you can...Wes

As mentioned above, paper products and bottle water are no longer an issue after limited were placed. However, 91% Isopropyl Alcohol isn't available in any Pharmacy or Grocery Stores. Do have ample supply of Hydrogen Peroxide.

Like you, I'm truly a single shopper and also have no relative's backing me up with extra item at the checkout station.

Wes , if you can’t find rubbing alcohol , cheep vodka also works. Lots of it around. This is not a joke ! Don’t dilute, use straight. Grain alcohol also works. Soak baby wipes in them for shopping carts etc.

I had 2 1/2 boxes of the 50 count Earloop Masks on hand from my annual buy last year. I always have a supply on hand for yard work during Spring Pollen Season and Fall Yard Cleanup. Handy for dusty work inside too. I'm always trying to avoid getting Sinusitis, where the drainage can cause Bacterial Respiratory Infections, which could lead to more serious respiration problems. The gloves I buy in 100 ct boxes and always keep on hand to wear when cleaning guns after trips to the range.

Never thought in my lifetime I'd be using these and needing other hard to find cleaning products due to a Global Pandemic. I guess the Preppers are saying, who's laughing at us now.

For those looking for TP. Go to Sams Club just after they open , 9 am in Illinois. I been finding TP at Sams Club and at the right time online.

Even found bulk sanitizer but needed a dispenser. Comes in handy around the house.

Been carrying disinfecting wipes to the store to wipe the card and hands. Just pull one sheet out and carry it around while I shop or get gas.

Dang, I have some of those in my older Pool Work Trailer, (used them when sanding pools) I think ... would be better than the American Flag pattern bandana with a few layers of paper towel I've been using, beginning to feel like a Patriotic Burglar.

Ya know, I can understand the shortage of masks and protective gloves, considering the need of those for the extra medical personnel, first responders and front line supporters who are helping to keep supplies and needed services available. But I cannot wrap my head around why others have the mind set that says, I need to stockpile outrageous amounts of toilet paper, paper towels, loaves of bread and water.

It's slowly becoming clear that with the limits now put in place on those items, along with the supply chain gradually catching up, that there would have been enough for all, if folks would have just bought what they usually needed. There has to be a lot of molded bread out there!

Guess they had to run out and buy a freezer to ram it all into... well that cost them the price of the freezer plus the extra electricity to keep it running for years.

Some of those freezers tend to suck large amounts of electric dollars. I know..I had one for several years and even though it was rated the latest and greatest 5-star Energy Efficient unit, when i gave it away I was shocked at my lower electric bill. I did appreciate having the convenience of it at the time.

I was lucky had 3 big bottles of alcohol when this hit,alo vera is not to be found so i ordered vegetable glycerin and scented oil on line makes great hand sanitizer. Keep a spray bottle in the trike and the truck.

Awoke much too early this morning around 4:30am. Feeling restless, I grabbed the tablet off the night stand and began searching to see if 91% Isopropyl Alcohol was available anywhere within a 50 mile radius. CVS and Walgreens resulted in no joy. Thought, for the heck of it give Walmart.com another shot, my last search was Sunday with no luck. Entered my zip code and to my surprise there was stock showing available for "in-store purchase only", at a store 30 miles north of me.

By day break I was dressed and wearing chaps, leather jacket, gloves, bandana tied over face and 3/4 Helmet w/face shield on, I hit the road. Walked in the store in full riding gear, making a beeline to the pharmacy department. Was delighted to see about 12-15 91% bottles in the 32oz size on the lower shelf. A little placard said, limited one per customer, so bought one and left to go fill up the trike. At the gas station I removed all my riding gear and went back through a different door dressed in regular street clothes and shamelessly bought a second bottle. This should be enough to last me through the remainder of the year.

To celebrate my good fortune, I rode a wide loop back home, getting in 103 miles before returning home at 10:30am. Temp has now moved up to the lower 70's. Unfortunately, more rain forecasted for the entire weekend and temps suppose to drop back to lower 60's next week.

It's slowly becoming clear that with the limits now put in place on those items, along with the supply chain gradually catching up, that there would have been enough for all, if folks would have just bought what they usually needed. There has to be a lot of molded bread out there!
I have a theory about the holding ... we are so used to not "wanting", we panic at the first sign od shortage. Remember the fuel lines? I was in prototype (nuke power school) in Windsor Connecticut ... we were limited to 10 gallons every other day. I brought two 5 gallons gas cans to fill, lasted my 66 sporty with the peanut tank about two weeks. The boarding house room I had rented (no housing or barracks, we got per diem) overlooked a gas station, I used to sit outside and marvel at the lines. I would see my neighbor (same class as me) in line every other day with 5 gallon cans. He had the same drive as me ... Like 4-5 miles. When the "shortage ended, he had lots of 5 gallon cans full, and he would be putting his gas cans fuel in his bike and car for weeks. The fuel he bought during the lines was much more expensive that the fuel he could of bought later.

I think at the first signs of a toilet paper shortage families who were spending all their time at home instead of going to work and school panicked big time. A lot of them were used to craping at work and school, now all that throne time would be spent at home. So families that used 3 or 4 rolls a week figured they would need 10 or 12 rolls a week.
