Default Wow ... Long Ride today.

Decided I'd had enough of the lockdown and BBQ withdrawal.

Left early this morning and rode straight through to Texline, Tx. When I came last time, I could smell the BBQ as the it was cooking (it was pretty early in the morning and they weren't open). Just had to have some BBQ. Found the little mom and pop place ... bought myself a 5# mixed box. No sides. I asked for 1/3 pork butt, 2/3 mixed chicken, beef, and sausage. Sat right at the "Shack" on a picnic table and ate my fill. The gal dishing it out had some dry ice. I put the left overs in the soft sided cooler with some dry ice (thanks Paws).

Size: 277.9 KBOkay, so I need to get back on the road ... should make it home by morning. Full belly, full gas tank ... Life is good.

texas has not been on any kind of absolute lockdown through this entire thing... We have been free to travel about as we please...just be mindful of keeping distance from each other, wear a mask if the community has directed you to do so (San Antonio mandated this but I have not heard of it elsewhere), no more than 10 people together as a group, and practice all the healthy stuff like washing hands and staying home if you are ill but not severe enough to be hospitalized.

We have made many trike trips around the hill country.

If we go to Walmart we can buy anything we like..unlike Michigan.

New course heading Mr. Sulu: ...2nd star to the right and straight on til morning...!!

    Scooter and Sassi....2 furrever.

We are free to travel as we need but it kinda sucks everything is carryout,so having a cold beer is kinda tough unless you bring your own. And most parks frown on it lol,the wife and i have had picnics at some state parks and to tell you the truth we like it. We may start doing this on a regular basis, either pack something or stop for carryout and take it with us.

Sorry Guys ... couldn't resist ... LOL. Figured someone might figure out it's like 1000 miles round trip to Texline, Tx. ... I'm only good for about 450-500 miles a day ... My iron B$tt days are over ... LOL ... I'm so ashamed . If we ever get out of lock down, I can see me doing a two day trip for BBQ ... LOL.

The BBQ is actually from a food truck that just moved here just after the dreaded Chinese Beast arrived. I have never seen its before. Her husband was killed in a wreck, so, she moved her truck and a smoker that is almost as big as the truck, on a trailer, in an effort to help her sister. Her sister owns a pretty nice, but fairly small bar (Quincy's) and is hurting because she can't open.

After getting here, her and her sister have been running the truck again (legally). The sister who owns the bar watches the food cooking all night and the other one does the selling and serving. Actually pretty kewl that she would do that. The sisters are sharing the expenses and it looks like unless this junk stays going on for months, the plan is gonna work. I asked her how the truck was doing here,

Okay, so about the BBQ, it was really good, not as good as Texas BBQ, and not the selection. They have pork b$tt, pork ribs, brisket, chicken, and a mild sausage. They also have coleslaw and "Texas toast". Full line of soft drinks. My "Medium Meat Box" weighed in at 5 pounds. I paid $24 plus tax and a $5 tip. Mom was very happy when I brought it home. There was plenty for Harley and Annabelle to have a taste, and enough left overs for samiches tomorrow.

Did it fulfill my withdrawal for Texas BBQ??? Probably not. But, It staved it off awhile ... .

I got a call last evening and my friend wanted to know if I could bring Harley to her place for a play date with the God Dogs while her and her aunt work on closing her father's estate. He passed September 2018. The estate was a pain, because he didn't have a will, and he had a reverse mortgage.

Harley likes going there because she has grass, my yard is rock.

Harley and I were riding home when I smelled it ... that smell only a wood fired smoker makes. At first I thought some one was gonna have a good dinner tonight. Then I saw the signs on the side of a wand car wash that is out of business. The gal is renting space from the owner.

Each person carrying their own snacks/sandwich/whatever food, and drinks has been the protocol for the rides this bunch has done since the virus mess closed the restaurants. I think this is the way to go now for the majority of future rides... no long waits for restaurant food, no chance of getting the nasty “D” from restaurant food, plus the price is right! Convenience stores are all open so a gas/potty stop works out well.

No Fuzzy... I did not believe your Texline, TX trip knowing the mileage that was involved.. you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time! However I do appreciate the levity brought out in these trying times.

I was waiting for you to tell us it was a fantastic pipe dream! You rascal! Glad you enjoyed the “Q”.

I'm with Steve. For the past several weeks all of our rides have been to non-restaurant or non-bar destinations.

We have visited several parks, boat launch areas, and nature preserves. We are camped in an unfamiliar part of Florida currently (Polk County) so we have to plan and research where we want to ride. If we are out for most of the day and don't want to pack a regular lunch we will try to plan everything around going through a drive thru someplace on the route. Rides have been cheaper and more interesting.

I went a 298.6 mile ride yesterday with friends. I have gotten into a habit of carrying a small cooler with a sandwich, snacks and drinks.

So will the Mickey D's, Burger Queens, Hardley's, etc., let you pull up to the drive thru window and get your order while on your trike. I know there were reports early on of truckers trying to walk up to get food and being turned down. Just wonder if the badge heavy social police require you to be in an enclosed vehicle in order to drive thru.

    Are you enjoying it?

Mary and I have been doing that for decades. Let's us stop in scenic spots for lunch.

Added bonus: I use the same cooler to carry lunch to work everyday and have a lot of memories while in the shop of all the places we've stopped for a bite.

I am. I have always carried water and a little snack while flying or riding, in the event of an unplanned stop but now I am packing more than "pilot food". I have a full blown sack lunch when I leave home.

I know there were reports early on of truckers trying to walk up to get food and being turned down. Just wonder if the badge heavy social police require you to be in an enclosed vehicle in order to drive thru.
Can't speak to the fast food places ... but ... Einstein's Bagels doesn't have an issue with it ... can't imagine any of them would since sales are so far down. I do get off the trike and put the bagels into the tour pak after the purchase ... I just pull forward a bit.

Mary and I have been doing that for decades. Let's us stop in scenic spots for lunch.

Added bonus: I use the same cooler to carry lunch to work everyday and have a lot of memories while in the shop of all the places we've stopped for a bite.

After watching you guys for years ... I've adopted your method, but, I think I may it backwards. I will eat a meal noonish, then when I get were I'm staying, make myself a samich or whatever I carry.

One of my QVC purchases I made was a set of Lock and Lock left over dishes. Did the math, 4 of them will fit in my soft sided cooler with one of those blue fake ice things. I'm thinking one for sliced chicken, roast beef, provolone, and Swiss. I don't do mayo (allergic), so, I'm planing some squeeze margarine or maybe bbq sauce. Bread will be in a paper bag. With the trailer, no storage worries.

If your a cook/baker , make a Stromboli. Slice it up , bag it in a cooler bag with blue ice and your favorite beverage of choice.

Yesterday I ate my sandwich at 10 AM during a fuel stop. I was hungry. I got up early so it had been several hours since breakfast. Another advantage of packing lunch.
