Finally cut the ties with SiriusXM

Every year I play the game of requesting to cancel my account. Every year to date, they offer me a "good deal" to keep me as a customer.

I have three radio's:

!) the built in radio in the Jeep

2) the SiriusXm module in the Tri Glide

3) the portable that I use in my bedroom with a boom box thing that they gave me for free a couple years ago.

Okay, in the past, they have offered me lots of "good deals", but, I've always said no thanks until they got to the "mostly music" package for each radio for $60 a year with no additional fees. So, my total cost, $180 which I paid yearly and forgot about it.

This year, their first "best deal" was $12.95 a month per radio x 3 radios x 12 months = $466.20 a year.

Their next "best deal" was $9.95 a month per radio x 3 radios x 12 months = $358.20 a year.

Their "final offer" was $8.95 a month per radio x 3 radios x 12 months = $322.20 a year.

All the offers would of course include fees and taxes, so, add maybe $50 a year to the totals.

Here is the rub, I only have two ears and they aren't very good ... LOL. So, I can only listen to one radio at a time. The Jeep is primarily a winter vehicle, the Tri Glide is primarily a summer vehicle and the bedroom radio is primarily for Harley when I'm not home, I think it makes him a little less lonely when he can't come and I know there won't be loud noises on the radio. So, is it worth having 200 channels on three radios for a year Maybe. Here is the second rub, I have been with SiriusXM since before they became SiriusXM and developed a monopoly in the satellite radio market, and in all that time, well over 20 years, I have listened to only one channel. The Message (Christian Music). Okay ... there have been a couple times I've been on a trip where I listened to a golf tournament or a football game because the channel was available. I'm guessing 5-10 times in over 20 years. So is it worth $300+ a year for one channel nope.

In all fairness, I offered to pay $100 a year (no taxes and fees) for just The Message on all three of the radio's on my account. The said they could not do that. I asked why. They said they didn't have such a plan, again I asked why? I explained that congress had passed a law allowing cable and satellite tv providers to allow customers to do a menu type plan. I know this because Spectrum offers a so much per block of channels plan. For example, you pick channels in blocks of 10 that you watch, and only pay for those channels you watch. A really logical plan.

She said she could only offer me a plan they had. I sighed and said, "So basically only plans that make you lots of money, please cancel all my radios." She said, "I'll be happy to process that for you." Then she said, "Sir, you've been a customer for a long time." I responded, "I know". She then offered me $2 a month for 6 months on all three radios, plus fees and taxes, which would come to about $80 for the six months. I told her thanks, but, no thanks, my involvement with SiriusXM has passed.

The irony, I started this process a little over a month before my subscription was due to renew. They will be crediting my account $74.87 for the unused portion .. LOL. Knowing they would have to do that, they could of offered me the 6 month extension from today for basically free and who knows, I might have been in a different frame of mind six months from now.

There is another up side for me ... I'm gonna put the windshield trim mirrors back on the Tri ... that big chrome metal signal blocker won't be an issue on the FM ... ... or to the Bluetooth from the cell for audio books ...

I'm with you Alan, I play the game every year also, but I have fun with it. I've got 4 radios and been a member since the beginning . I get a Family discount, and a Military discount. With 2 cars, 1 truck, 1 trike I've got music covered when I'm on the road. I'm keeping it..

I stopped playing that game 4 years ago.....After the 1 year intro i did the 6 month...

Then got whacked with a crazy bill, So i canceled and got an iPod with all the music i'll ever need....On my Tri's and the Slingshot i use a thumb drive that the owner of the dealership loaded with 5 thousand songs for me...I'll never get to the end...My Son set up my iPhone so i can play music though the Slingshots radio but i never use it, Too much trouble for me.....Dealing with Sirius is like trying to negotiate a price with a car salesperson.......

I stopped Sirius after the free time ran out. The old hits channels were what i liked but they played a lot of stuff that was what I call bottom feeders.... the stuff that was terrible, never made the hits, never played because it was so terrible...oftentimes they were on the flipside of the hit on the 45 record. I don’t want to hear that stuff.

We have satellite radio at the hospital so the surgeons can listen to music while they operate. I have noticed that the rotation is tight and you will hear the same songs after a couple of hours on most stations. I get an email every few weeks that they want me back after my free trial.

I now use Amazon Music which I can select what I listen to, listen to newly released albums and I can download the music and listen to it later so that if I am going on a trip and know that cell service will be spotty, I will not be without music. If the wife is with me, we listen to audio books.

I am not really sure satellite is the bargain it once was.

Sad part ... I just love the message ... just can't help feeling that I'm over paying for the one station. Even if it is on three radio's.

Thats the same way i felt.....For the year and half i had it i never moved the station off the 60's channel for more than a few minuets and just out of curiosity to see what else was available....

I too gave up on Sirius XM a good while back... way too much money to listen to the few channels I ever tuned in to. I play my music from my phone now in my truck and the trike.. the two pipes coming out of the back are my music on the trike usually...

Totally agree.......just hated paying to hear 1 channel, my FM radio works just fine

along with my IPOD for trips.

What a HAZZELdealing with them when billing issues develop or trying to terminate their

service!

When I purchased my latest car I had a 3 month trial subscription. Was not impressed by the channels that were available and had no desire to keep it. Now I get emails every week with their special of $5.00 per month. I now have the email go to junk mail. Totally useless to me.

I will not renew when my 6 mos free trial subscription expires unless I get the $60 a yr plan. They have so many talking heads now on the music channels there is not much difference from ad paid radio.

Have not tried Pandora yet on the Tri, but know I can use it in the truck through the phone . it is free with very few commercials. You can set up your very own channels by type of music. Plugs into truck & plays through truck speakers, hope it will work the same on the Tri.

I don't listen to much music anymore. I do use Pandora on my Iphone cabled to the car radio if I go anywhere. I use the free version and only occasionally do I have an ad on air. Just a thought but maybe they have a channel you would like?

I just re-upped SXM for a year right about 60 and maybe a little change. Bride likes it in the challenger.. just sayin... Fred

Well guys and gals I'll take the contrarian position . . . for a part of this discussion. Now I too think SiriusXM is overpriced, etc., etc., but so is cable TV, cell phone service and heck everything else we enjoy for that matter. I hate negotiating with them and have never, ever gotten as good a deal as some report . . . but I do love their service. My wife and I listen to it exclusively whether we are in our cars or our TG. Favorite channels, well there are lots and lots of them. Here are just a few - Fifties on 5, Sixties on 6, Seventies of 7, Elvis channel, Beatles channel, Little Steven's Underground Garage, Classic Vinyl, The Bridge, Willie's Roadhouse, Old Time Radio, Dr. Laura on 107, Patriot channel for David Webb, Andrew Wilkow, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Sinatra channel, B B King's Blues Channel, Escape, and others I've probably forgotten about.

I hate channel surfing when on a road trip trying to find something to listen to that we'll enjoy. So I guess I'll keep my SiriusXM for now.

My wife got me a unit for my truck for Christmas 2018. $5 a month.

When I called to renew I told them, no thanks, the price was to high. They asked me if I would renew for the same price I had, I said yes.

I listen to around a dozen channels. I bought an extra antenna and mounted it on the motorhome. I can move the radio from the truck so we have SiriusXM when we go camping.

I won't use them because it's such a hassle to cancel when you want to.

I was on hold for over an hour the last time I did, and calling them directly is the only way to, unless you cancel the credit card you signed up with.

WAWA gas stations got hacked several months ago and our bank automaticly issued us new cards. Guess it wouldn't be a problem if they don't renew me next year.

Same situation happened to me a couple of years ago, and I got to cancel several recurring payment I really didn't want.
