Garmin electrical hook-up on Freewheeler

I've not seen much posted about navigation systems on the Freewheeler. I'll use a RAM mount to locate the Garmin unit on my handlebar. My area of interest is where to tap in for a power source, other than the battery charger connection and wire routing from that source so the wiring is hidden, i.e. not run across the fuel tank from under the seat.

I'd also like to have neat wiring at the handlebar, not a rats nest of wires or excess wire coiled at the handlebar.

I'd like seeing photos and information on what others have done.

I have my Garmin on a RAM mount, the wires run underneath the fuel tank to the battery.

Mine is plugged into the cigarette lighter plug. Ram Mount on left side.

I ran my wires down the tank tunnel and hooked up to the the accessory plug. That way when I shut off the bike the gps shuts off and doesn't drain the battery. Since I also have Love Jugs, I got the y-harness for the heated grips and used deutshe connectors for all my hook ups.

If you are not running AUX passing lamps, there is Aux power located on the left side at front of tank. It will be a white plug tucked up in your wiring harness, sometimes pushed up and back under frame opening of tank. It is a 4 pin plug with three wires, Position 1- Red w/Yellow, Position 2- Empty, Position 3- Black & Position 4- Light Blue w/Grey... Position 1 (12v+) & 3 (ground) will provide you with 12V turned on & off with your ignition or ACC mode.

You will need HD part # OEM # 70292-89 which is the female plug as well as # 72038-71A qty of 2 ( they may sell them in packs) and you could always ask your steelership to crimp wires to them for you to connect to if you don't have the crimp tools.

Note- if you go this route ensure you wire your Garmin positive lead to positive and Negative to Negative, they are polarity sensitive.
