    Default Colling deflectors vs. Fangs

Does anyone have experience with these - - which do you prefer, and why?

I'm looking for less wind buffeting.

    Thanks,

I use the cooling wings deflectors from DK Customs on my 2017 Freewheeler & they help with cooling & buffeting.

I'm curious, did you fix your starting issue & what was the problem?

    Default Fangs

I use National Cycle lower wind deflectors or fangs as I also call them. I experienced pronounced wind buffeting in the 60 to 70 mph range on my Honda VT 1300 Stateline and it settled right down once installed. I found it easy to install and quality product. Very satisfied.

Thanks for your comment on the cooling wings -- will probably order them

Regarding the starting issue -- have not figured it out yet -- must be in neutral to start -- HOWEVER, I did find a comment someplace that the problem may be in the control box on left side of handle bar -- possibly a wire or other item that is not hooked properly or defective - they also said that cruise control would not work.. Mine works.....continuing to ask around - - dealer said they would try to find out but no follow up from them.

    Thanks again

Larry, the fangs look cool BUT they do block the air flow to the engine. The Deflector wings from D K customs are a better choice. With your starting issue have you tried snapping your clutch lever a few times? Some times this works, and if you find it works you now know your LS switch pak is the cause of the problem. My 17 Freewheeler did this early on, I took the clutch lever off and cleaned inside the perch, lubed the lever and clevis pin . Before I reassembled it I flicked the micro switch inside the perch and have had no more issues, Good Luck and do check back in

    Thanks,
I have a 17 freewheeler and have tried both the fangs and the DK wings, all with extensive heat monitoring and adjustments using my PV, infrared temp gauge and digital meat thermometer for the oil.

My problem with the significant wind turbulence was at the shoulder and face level above 50 mph. (I'm 6 foot and always ride using my highway pegs).

The fangs completely solved the problem and I can ride 6-8 hours at hwy speeds with no wind fugitive, my eyes don't water, my ear bugs stay in (1/2 helmet) and my shirt shelves stay down. (I'm 6 foot and always ride using my highway pegs). However the engine and head temp consistently run about 15 degrees hotter with the fangs. I've taken them off and put them back on to verify the rise in temps. I then tried the DK air wings (I have their tank lift as well). I have played with changing the angles but I didn't see a measurable difference in temps with the fangs on or off, and I did a lot of testing. Nor did it help me personally with my wind problem. I was really hoping for a different result and they may work better for others then they did for me.

I just can't ride without my fangs so I installed an aux jag oil cooler (6 fin). Even in 95 degree Texas sun my oil now stays below 215. My engine temp (ET) still creeps up to 320 when I running at 70+ so I just installed some love jug might mites but have not done any more testing. My head temp runs consistently 50 degrees hotter then my ET. Note, a 10-15 mile per hour cross wind will lower my temps a good 20 degrees so I'm hoping the love jugs will have a similar effect, though probably a bit smaller given all my measurements are above 60 mph because that's were I ride on the open roads in Texas.

Bottom line, don't expect the DK wind deflectors to do what the fangs do, but they may be ok for your specific need.

    Hope this helps,

    Ron

Thanks Ron -- will order the fangs.

They worked fine on my Heritage, and wondered about on the Freewheeler, which you helped me decide.

Ron I have a 2016 Tri Glide, your engine temps are way to high in my opinion. You have to be cooking! I ran approximately 56 miles at 75 to 80 mph in 97 degree weather last weekend and my engine temp did not go above 227 degrees. I too run a Jagg oil cooler, oil filter relocation and mighty mites. Have you every talked to fuelmoto about heat your engine producing? You may have a wrong tune. My first one was wrong and gave me temps in 270-290 range. I talked to fuelmoto and the tune was corrected. At 60mph, my temp is 205-210 on 90+ degree day.

You certainly won't regret it, like night and day difference and it stops a lot of bugs as well

I agree that my temps seem too high and have tried just about everything to get my engine temp under 260 but can't even get close. I do think the lowers on a tri glide do a good job on directing the air right where it's needed and they say that the M8 temp sensor was moved to the rear cylinder and that it does read a bit hotter, but 70 degrees cooler on a heavier bike...dang. (I'm assuming your are talking about actual ET readings)

I've gotten two different maps from fuel moto (before and after cam change), but my temp data has stayed pretty much the same (thought the new cam was suppose to help too). I did get a wrong map strategy one time and my cruise and reverse didn't work so I know it can happen.

I have run a bunch of auto tunes and it seems pretty well dialed in and don't see any knock counts showing up in my data logs. My MPG are around 38 but I gladly drop to 30 for more power and cooler engine.

I'm going to see what these might mites do for me and then go back to Jamie with some data, just for peace of mind if nothing else. Got over 20k and it runs great, but I know the timing is getting pulled way back at those temps.

    Thanks,
I bought DK deflectors for my son. He rode with them for a day and took them off. He's one of those guys who would rather get beat up by the wind. Selling them for $45, I pay shipping
