    Default Front tire questions

I didn't see where this may have been discussed so I am asking now. I have always believed that motorcycles should use M/C tires for obvious reasons. However, since the front tire on a trike doesn't really lean like a two wheel M/C does, is it okay and maybe better if you use a car tire, or should you just get a genuine trike front tire? Just trying to gather information for down the rode when I need to replace it. It's on my 2018 DCT Tour with CSC Powertrack steering.

    Thanks,

    Allen

Thanks for the quick reply. However, contrary to what you said, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. I have always used M/C tires. I was just questioning if it is different with a trike front tire since it doesn't lean. My thinking was with the surface being totally flat, that you might get better steering in the curves with more surface traction than the M/C tire has. Also was thinking that it would last much longer than a M/C tire. Maybe I'll just consider the Avon Cobra since it's highly recommended. If there are better ones out there, I am open for suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Allen

It doesn't run exactly flat in turns. Remember the forks have rake in them, more if you added a rake kit.

Also, have you looked for a car tire that would fit? Good luck with that.

    Yes, get the Avon!

Yep, kind of figured the Avon would be the choice of most. That's what I will get down the road when this two wheeled front tire on there now, wears out.

    Thanks,

Sooner than you think. "Bike" type front tires have very shallow tread depth, it goes away fast on a "Trike".

Avon AV-91 Cobra Chrome Trike Radial 130/70 R 18 and it's still the radial, It has a rounded profile but is some flatter than others, plus it has more flexible sidewalls, it's intended to work well with trike rakes that still lay the tire over somewhat in turns. A flat profile might actually result in less tread on the road in a turn. Mine is the older Avon AV-71 Cobra Trike Radial which is the exact same tire, they just changed the presentation some. It wears really well and I like the way it seems to "take a set" in a corner, very confident. I've used several different "rear" tires (Michilen PA and a M-50) on the front of the trike, they wear like iron with deeper tread, they rode like iron too. I don't know how particular you are or how far from changing you are, but I removed a tire with 1/2 tread on it still to try it, and that other tire is retired, "wall ornament". I am very pleased.

I installed a Dunlop D404, Rear Tire on the front wheel. Also, I had it mounted in reverse rotation.Pressure is kept at 40 pounds. Got about 20,000 miles on the first one should get the same with this one.Cost at the local bike shop, installed was under $100.
