I have a tad of experience with the Power Vision.
My advice:
1) Get a "canned" tune from from Dyno Vision, which I'm fairly certain DK Customs included on your Power Vision Unit.
2) Set up the winpv software so you can save that tune and your original to a computer ... The backups will save your b$tt.
3) Learn how to do the auto tune thing. When you auto tune, do a variety of road types, city, country, state roads, highway, stop and go traffic and no traffic, etc. The variety will allow the Power Vision to learn a variety of stuff about your ride.
4) While doing the tuning, ride like you really do, if you rap the throttle out of habit, do that. If you hot rod, do that while tuning. However you normally ride, do that.
5) Do a tuning run, save it, load the learned tune in and tune using that one as a starting point. Continue this until the % learned is minimal, then load that tune and try it. Repeat as necessary until you find what you want.
6) Remember, the tunes are a compromise, if you're looking for high HP, you will loose MPG. If you are looking for MPG, you will loose some HP. Look for a balance between the two.
7) Have fun, tuning rides are just that ... RIDES!
On my 16, I just bought a PV license & dealer set it up. Nothing hanging on the trike. Ran great.
2020 TriGlide Tahitian Teal aka (Hawaiian Hussy). Avon frt & Comfortred rear tires. ProAction frt & rear susp. RZ seat. DK floorboard extension & rear axle retainer kit with EBS, HD pull -back bars. Custom Dynamics front turn signals & Vent grill. All ,HD "Edge Cut " accessories.
That is definitely an option. However, to be clear, those that have the actual Power Vision device do not need to leave it on the Trike.
Once you have the tune loaded into the ECM (like you dealer did) then you can remove the PV and store it til the next time (if ever) that you want to change your tune.
Many of us like to leave it hanging on the Trike so that we can monitor vital functions, but that is not necessary.
Kevin
After having my PV on the handlebar, I'm lost with out it. Others do not like the clutter and I understand that. I have gear selection, mileage, Engine Temperature, Trip miles. the most important one is the Engine Temp. When I was having issues with it (which was my own doing as it turned out) I was lost if you have your own Power Vision you can change tunes when you want or need to when you change exhaust or Intakes on the trike, or just good tune better already in use. Anything happens to your tune you have it backed up on the PV. A PV is so much more than just a tuner it for me is information central for our trike.
It's your trike your decision it is all what your expectations are of a tuner, I believe Power Vision by DynoJet is one of the best for the cost. Good luck on your choice. Travel safe Fred

You definitely have make sure you have the right tune. I didn't realize that they gave me the wrong tune. I received a free-wheeler tune instead of triglide. Being new to Power Vision I did not know. But did know that my bike shouldn't be at 374 degrees, when my screamin eagle pro race tune was down at 200 degrees. It really blued out my pipes from the heat. Luckily I didn't run it long or probably I would need a new engine.

I’ve not payed attention to the power vision threads before because I thought you had to leave it on there, I’m way more interested now that I found out you don’t have to leave it. Do you just hook it up and download the tune then remove the monitor?, thought I would get a fuel pack but now I may do this. Chime in on how it works without having to leave it out

If you download a map from FuelMoto, make sure you get the map for the M-8. When I bought my Power Vision, I downloaded a map hat was designated TC which I thought was Twin Cooled but it was actually for a Twin Cam. So I was out riding on a Saturday and pulled up top a light. While waiting for the light to change. I felt something warm on my right foot and looked down and saw all the anti-freeze/coolant running down my foot onto the pavement. Took it to a dealer that was just a couple miles from where I was and they kept it for about four days, when I picked it up the told me that it had a twin cam map loaded which prevented the fans from running. Also they flagged my bike with Harley which canceled my warranty. I found this out about 18 months later when I was going to have the vent installed on the primary.

Yes you don't have to leave it on, hook it up and download the map they gave you and then take it off. My 2016 I had a improved stock tune from fuel moto where I bought the power vision, it ran really good with the tune they gave me, I was happy but I never did run auto tune, I was happy with what they gave me, guess I should have did auto tune and then more than likely it would have run better, not sure but alas I got rid of trike and let it go with the bike which I regret now.I know some people leave it hooked up and have it on handlebars so they can see what is going on with their bike.

What does the auto tune feature do, is it better or worse than the tune they load on there for you?

Lets see if I can explain this until someone that knows more than I do as I said I was happy with the tune they sent. Ok auto tune means you drive the trike with the map that is loaded on and you drive like you normally would, fast, slow, fast starts, running thru the gears, just normal riding on how you ride, the power vision collects data on how you do it and then you upload that auto tune to your bike, then you have a better tune than you had, I know some people are happy with the tune that is sent to them as I was. With a power vision tuner they will get you a map for what you have did to your trike, exhaust, air cleaner, cam etc etc, it is better all around than fuelpak not knocking fuelpak quite a few like it. I was happy with the improved stock tune they sent me.
Hopefully Jack or Kevin will chime in on this since they know power vision and how it works or someone that has did it.

The auto tune feature let's you create a new custom tune to your trike for the way you operate as well as the roads you travel. Old Shiney have gone down the auto tune road several times. As a matter of fact we are going to be doing it again soon. I loaded updated software just to be sure I will take about 75 mile ride for a tune update. It's not difficult and keeps your knowledge of how to use the software and tuner. Travel safe Fred

So is it safe to assume that the Power Vision tuner will not void the warranty. I have a 2020 TG with only 1800 miles so far so warranty is a concern for me. I had the V&H fuel pack on my Dyna and liked having a tuner when I made upgrades to the bike. With the TG I'd like to upgrade the air cleaner and other things but know that I'll need a tuner for it.
That's what I was afraid of.
