Here's a BIG SD WELCOME to you and your wife. You don't have to feel bad at becoming a "triker because it eventually happens to the best of us. For the majority of us, it was/is an age think. In my case, it was that, plus a medical thing, for I had a stroke in 2008. But the important thing is that you both decided to keep your "faces in the wind" and believe in our motto: "FREE TO BE ME, RIDING ON THREE"!

To pmar6004, My sister pointed out an ad for that rally to me a couple of years ago when we were visiting Deadwood during the Sturgis rally when they first bought their trike, but we hadn't. I was looking at it very seriously just in the last week, prior to you even mentioning it. We are interested.

Our group decided to cancel our Sturgis reservations for this year and transferred them to next year, and instead make reservations at a campground in Chamberlain SD., right on the river, a week before this years rally dates.

We are concerned with possible Sturgis rally crowd sizes, and decide to play it safe, but still wanted to enjoy South Dakota. We have friends coming from Nebraska, so it's a wash as far as distance is concerned. We'll head west to Wall and the badlands for a day, I'm sure.

Given that, our vacation plans for this summer are kinda locked in. The rally you mentioned is very inviting though. It will be in our future planning, I'm positive.

Thanks again all for the welcome to the forum. I'll make sure to search for previous answers before posting a recycled question and try to help others whenever I can.

My first search is going to be on the increased amount of heat that comes off the engine onto us while on the trike. Uff-da, it's warm, LOL!

To the Trike Talk from Ohio. Will be up your way in July. Is that ride north out of Duluth worth doing? If so we will spend 2 nites & ride that on day 2. My wife & I & Lady on a Mission will be traveling together out to Wa state on US 2

Hi PosseRider, I would say it is worth the ride up the shore. The ride along the lake is beautiful. Can be busy during tourist times, although that's been all thrown out of whack, lately. Normally it is difficult to find a room in Grand Marias that time of year, but I was looking recently at late August and saw there was plenty of rooms available. Not sure how you feel about casino's, but there is a casino just before the border with Canada in Grand Portage that has a nice hotel attached, and the rates are usually a little better. https://www.grandportage.com/

Lot's of deer the whole way, so I'd keep my eyes peeled. Can be pretty cool along the shore sometimes too, even during summer. Like a giant air conditioner, it can be. We rode up last summer in early June for a week-end and had rain and 39 degrees. That's not typical for the summer, though.

It still was worth it, IMO. I would recommend stopping at Split Rock Lighthouse: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_pa...00266#homepage and Gooseberry Falls: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_pa...00172#homepage for sight seeing. Plus downtown Grand Marias.

Thanks for the reply. We plan to be on the south side of Duluth our 3 rd nite, so will stay there 2 nites & ride the shore & back for our 2nd nite at same hotel,

We have attended for the past three years and have learned a lot and met many great trickers that have become friends. A fun and relaxed rally without the crushing crowds of the Sturgis rally.
