    Default Windshield question

I bought my first ever trike and my first Harley. I’m trying to figure out if there are windshields that will fit my 2019 FLRT. Or, is it only made for the FLRT? Can one for a Road King or FLHR fit? Thanks for the advice!

You will get many answers yes and no on this subject. The Roadking windshield may work however the gap @ the headlight will be different. This will cause more wind buffeting than a stock FLRT shield

The Road King (FLHR) windshield will “fit”, but the space around the headlight is much larger. It would probably work fine but may not look as “clean” as the Freewheeler specific shield.

Call LRS and talk to Bran. I just bought one from them. What you need to do is take measurements of the top bar holes at each end and the disance between the bottom two sets of holes that run vertical under the top bar. It took them a while but they figured out which hardware set I had. I don't think I had the hardware that was supposed to normally be on the 19 FW. Maybe yours will be better but if you measure first then talk to them you will be assured of the proper fit the first time.

I got to take my FW out today for the first time with their windshield and I really like it over stock.

I went with the HD 20" windshield and really like it. It's a great system if you remove the shield in hot weather.

A few manufacturers make replacement shields that use the stock hardware.

The FLRT is a Roadking. I replaced My Roadking windshield with an LRS. Good news: works as advertised. Bad news: poor quality. Thinner material and not as optically clear as a stock windshield. Not only that when switching over the windshield straps it cracked around the screw holes- yes I torqued it a little less then the FSM said.Whatever coating they use sucks. Its harder to keep clean than stock and streaks.I found it's necessary to use RainX for plastic.Wont buy again.

I bought a '16 freewheeler with HD windshield, it sucks, anything over 60 tried to blow my glasses off and I wear a 3/4 bell helmet. I had a street glide before so was used to a faring, very little wind. I bought a fairing from Woody's Fairings, they're made to fit freewheeler and are removable as they use the stock windshield mounts. Couldn't be happier, freeway speeds, 70 to 80, very little wind, same as my street glide. I think it looks much better also, large amount of color on tank and everything from motor back, little fender on front. Fairing brings color to the front, balancing everything out.

Not sure how that got sideways, but solved my wind problem. It comes off and on like the HD windshield. Very little wind even at 70 or 80.

Check HD's website, they make 2 specifically for the FLRT, a 16" and 20". Like MDO, I got the 20" and it's perfect during the winter. I take it off in the warmer months.

Google search turned these up as sources:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=free...hrome&ie=UTF-8

I bought a 18" W/S and for me that height is great. Having a difficult experience with one company I can't really give you one as a recommendation.

Hi John, what fairing is that on your Freewheeler? Did you notice any decrease in mpg or any adverse wind issues (cross wind, etc.) when you installed it? I am thinking about a fairing for my FW.

    Thanks,

    Sunman

Woody's Fairings, no loss in mpg or cross wind issues. It mounts where the stock one mounts but with a different system that's furnished with it. So less than a minute to take it off. I had two different windshields that came with the trike, both sucked, lots of wind and noise. All that went away after fairing install. They're available with or without stereo, I chose without, old school I guess. I like listening to the motor, mounted a windshield bag where the radio would live. Glad I did it, would do it again. Contact me if you need more info.

Default Freewheeler windshield from Clearview Shields

Bryan: I had the Harley 16 inch windshield on my 2015 Freewheeler when I got it. I experienced a lot of wind buffing with it but what I really did not like was how sensitive it made the steering when riding at interstate speeds, I thought it dangerous I had to hold on with both hands on the interstate.

I bought a windshield from Clearview Shields, they are in Colorado. (www.clearviewshields.com) These shields use the stock mounting frame and bolts. I have 4 other Harleys and have put Clearview Shields on each of them so I have years of experience with Clearview Shields. They are polycarbonate, not lexan and are much thicker than other windshields and crystal clear. The have many heights to choose from and offer a recurve on the windshield that flips the air flow up over the helmet. My experience shows it flips bugs up and over also.

I am 6 feet tall and have a Sundowner seat on my Freewheeler. I chose the 17 1/2 inch height and I bought their and offered only by them 2 1/2 inch wider windshield. I look over the top inch of the windshield and the recurve directs the air flow over my helmet so no buffeting. The best thing with the 2 1/2 inch wider windshield is the sensitive steering at interstate speeds is gone, the bike is now a pleasure to ride on the interstate. I've actually tested it taking my hands off the handle bars, for a few seconds, and it goes straight down the interstate.

Received the FreedomShield the other day.Very impressed. Thicker than the LRS and wider too. Made specifically for the FLRT. The gap at the headlamp is less. It's the 19 inch which puts it at nose level for me.The recurve works just as well as the LRS but the optical quality is superior.FS recommends leaving the plastic coating on and taking it for a ride to make sure you like it. They will take it back as long as you leave the coating on it.Works very well. Disassembled and removed the the cross braces double sided tape (HD pn: 58416-77A and 58417-77) with a razor blade and replaced it with clear 1" Gorilla double sided tape.Recommed you do this no matter what brand shield you buy.Woe be unto you trying to reassemble by yourself without the stickum tape.Torqued everything down to 22 inch pounds

using the proper sequence.Per the Touring FSM. FS has about a 4 week backorder and is more expensive than the LRS but worth the $. Rolling out before sunup theres always fog here the mountains until the sun burns it off.The LRS shield would fog so bad I would have to stop and wipe it down with a micro fiber cloth. The FS has very little fog. Both had Rain-X for plastic applied. The LRS now resides atop the burn pit pyre awaiting the Labor Day bash where I will send its demon soul back to hell where it belongs.A sacrifice to the HD gods.

I have the 20” standard HD windshield. According to specs it is polycarbonate. It works fine at all speeds for me. Of course max for me so far is 75....
