Red face Champion GL1800 02' Propshaft query

Hi All, new to this site and looking for advice. I have a Champion trike and experiencing problems with the prop shaft and need to know if there is a quick way of taking it out without dismantling the frame? Many thanks Karen, UK

Karen, The driveshaft on a Champion GL1800 has a split front yoke and 4 bolts at the rear yoke.

Remove the rear 4 bolts and then loosen the 6 bolts (hex type) on the front yoke.

The 8 bolts that secure the rear to the swingarm need to be loosened.

Remove the lower bolts and pivot the rear axle housing upward.

The shaft has enough room where it can be removed without issues.

You should get a long ball-head allen wrench (6mm) for the front pinch bolts.

Thank you so much for the advice, managed to get the prop shaft off, we have had it refurbished and re-fitted. After hitting a pot hole, we get a really bad banging sound coming from underneath, having inspected the prop shaft there was play on either end, now this has been solved, the banging is still there. It was worth having the works done as the previous attempt at a repair was very poor (we think the connector used was off a quad bike). I'm now looking to replace the shock absorbers as I don't believe these are the right ones for the trike, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again Karen

Worked a treat, many thanks for the advice. Prop shaft has been overhauled and re-installed. Found a new mechanic and found a lot of the jobs previously paid for were never completed, the bike is 19 years old and still had the original air filter in (mice had also dined out on it). Wrong shocks installed etc., the list is endless. All being well we'll be back on the road by weekend. The advice on this site is fantastic and really appreciate the time taken to respond. Kind regards Karen
