Don't know if this will help: Had my compensator springs go bad on my 16 Tri. Had a lot of slap, you could hear it. Got replaced under extended warranty.

My 2020 started making noise 6000 miles sounded like xtra parts in the primary , I bought a dark horse crank works man o war motor sprocket $500. & a hayden primary chain adjuster $120. Its a lot quieter seems to have more torque , The stock one has so many parts just in there clanking around , check out the dark horse , the screaming eagle one is not much better then stock , baker makes one that's pretty good , this one has a lot less pieces and its lighter . I will see how long it last ?

I have that same back lash issue you mentioned and I have the Baker unit.

I am thinking about going with the Darkhorse unit or the solid front sprocket.

Road Dog, I would appreciate any additional feedback you have.

So far so good, A lot less noise than the stock one , really no moving parts , still get the noise of the clutch plate's rattling in the clutch basket , pull in the clutch that stops , I used a hayden primary chain adjuster I have used them for years no problems , for $ 500. its worth a try and it can be rebuilt for less than $100.

Sounds like it may be a good option.

The decel backlash I get is my biggest complaint.

That's what I thought too, but I asked my local shop and he said the comp should take care of that.

try the Hayden primary chain adjuster first , I got on ebay around $120. free shipping , if you have a Baker compensator I think the Hayden will help ? My thought

Just turned 9500 miles and dealer said I need to replace the compensator. Dealer said about $500 to $600 does that seem correct? Doesn't really matter since the ESP will cover it. Just curious.

Also, does 9500 miles on the clock but using the front brakes 90% of the time seem wrong that the dealer says I need all new pads AND rotors? I think it's ridiculous.

    thanks

I have read in the past on this forum that Tri-Glides come with a Screaming Eagle compensator from the factory, so if it needs replacing, ensure they give you the correct one.

It seems to me 9,500 miles is way to soon for pads to need replacing, unless you have a caliper problem. If there is a groove in the rotor, you would feel it. If the rotor is warped, you would normally feel it when applying the brakes in the form of pulsing or a shimmy. I have over 12,000 miles and my front pads look about 1/2 worn.

I would think a caliper problem would be covered under the ESP also. Jack is a brake expert so maybe he will chime in here.

That mileage using the front brake mostly the front pads could be worn enuff to replace, I would measure them and the rotors and compare the specs. The rotors and your comp sprocket should be covered under your warranty, the pads are a wear item tho

Jack - Dealer said the rotors are a wear item and not covered under ESP but the compensator is. Rotors are listed in the ESP brochure though. I'll see what the general manager says.

A gal in our chapter also has a TG and has 16K and the pads seem to still be OK.

MDO - I haven't noticed any thing out of the ordinary with any of my brakes. No squealing, no pulsating, nothing but smooth stopping.

Most extended warranties list rotors as a covered component for defects in the rotor only. Warped rotors are considered as customer induced therefore no coverage unless a defect in rotor caused warpage like a cracked rotor which is very unusual.

They are Still have problems with compensators.. That was the last straw for me and move on from the TRI.

If I had to replace another comp I would go with the Baker Built . The Harleys get revised and revised and still dont get the oil in the critical areas. JMO..

I was told rotors are on the list only if they are warped. Just got an update from my dealer. They got approval to replace the rotors due to warpage. I don't recall the brakes pulsating when I used them.

They also said that the calipers were the culprit for the terrible mileage and fixed them. So all I have to pay for is new pads. My 2003 Ultra had the rotors replaced also due to warpage. He's hoping to have all the parts in a couple weeks. Instead of getting them from Harley, he contacted other dealers for the parts otherwise he said he wouldn't get them for a least a month.

He told me about his bike is still at the dealer waiting for some kind of front bolt and won't get it until October. It's some kind of "use once only" type bolt. Can't mfg's use standard replaceable parts???? I remember back in the day you could get the rotors resurfaced, now you have to replace them.

I'm still upset that I'm out a bike for a couple weeks, but at least I don't have to wait a month and the repairs are less $500.
