Recently put Dyna Beads in all three tires. Big difference, smoother and the hmmmmm between 50-65 mph is virtually gone.

kind of a pain getting them in, but, worth it. No weights on the tires at all as recommended by Innovative Balancing (Makers of the Dyna Beads).

Back to running 38# front and 26# rear.

Just a little update on replacing the AV91 with a Dunlop American Elite. It did take a couple weights to balance it, but it wasn't to bad. Did not use the Dyna beads yet, waiting to see how the tire runs. Put 100 miles on it on every type of road, went from 0 to 90 and did about 30 miles in the rain. Handled great and no tingling in the bars at all, very happy with the tire. It might not last 20,000 miles but I can live with that.

    Default my update

I had an AV71 on the front for 3 years and about 18,000 miles (with Ride On for last 2 years). Tread looked good for another 5-6k miles but the sidewall cracked (3-4 inches long) in one spot. This tire was always a little "twitchy" but I go used to it. Just put an AV91 on yesterday, my indy made a mistake and put Ride On in there instead of the Dyna Beads I had provided. Their mistake and they did not charge me for the Ride On. Got out for 125 miles today and no twitchy at all. But I now notice the vibration/buzz in the bars, especially the left one. Makes my hand feel like it is asleep (with gloves on). I do not notice the buzz in the mirrors, though.

So, I am going to put some more miles on and see if this continues. If it does, I will have the indy remove the Ride On and put in the Dyna Beads and see what happens.

Question for those of you who did NOT have any issues with your Avons, what did you use to get them balanced?

    Thanks

Well I've got about 500 miles on the Avon now and the buzz seems to have pretty much gone away. I will keep the Ride On in there at this point, I like the sealant part that the Dyna beads doesn't have.

My wife goes through front tires on her TGU every 8-9K miles. So looking at recommendations around we swapped over the AV91 Cobra Chrome as the AV71's are pretty hard to come by. But now she is having this buzzing through the bars problem. It makes her hands go numb and wears her arms and shoulders out.

So like a good hubby I go through looking for what the issue could possibly be. Checked the motor mounts, steering dampener, mirrors tight, etc. The different thing was having added that tire. So I picked up a 3oz pack of Dyna Beads and added 2oz of those into the tire. It only made it worse! So into the dealer we go and we try to figure out what is going on. They checked all of the same things plus many more to look for vibration. Finally pulled the tire and wheel off and ran it on the balancer and it says it needs 1oz added to one side over and over again. Even with trying to get the beads to adjust. It just wouldn't balance.

So we broke down the tire, took out the balance beads and ran it on the machine again. It came out true with no weights needed every time they tested it. Mounted the tire and searched and found the recommended pressure at 41 cold. Tried many different pressures and it still has the buzz that happens at the 45-70 mph range. Besides feeling it, you can really see it in the left mirror and the fuel door when you are at those speeds.

I see threads where people love this tire, but then I find this where lots of people are having this same issue. And it seems to be really the AV91 not the old AV71. I am going to reach out to Avon customer service and see what I can find out there. So far, I'm not hearing any resolution to this issue other than switching to another brand of tire. No one seems to be replacing the tire with another AV91 and having the problem go away.

Wow, going thru front tires that fast...sounds like she is having a lot of fun in the curves!

I've run the AV71 in the past and really liked it. Am getting ready to order an AV91, but with so many posts of folks experiencing hums' and vibrations, I am wondering if I will be one of the lucky ones that does not, or if I should just get a Michelin or Dunlop Rear Tire Reversed.

I hear ya Kevin. You know I had the AV91 Cobra Chrome Trike Tire on my 2018 and I don't recall having any vibration but then again it may have and I just 'got used to it.' Like you after reading about current problems with the AV91 I'm a bit 'gun shy.' Now I've just crossed the 8k mark on my 2020 and I hope I'm good to double that as I got 18k on the OE tire on m 2018. But whenever I do replace the front tire I'm leaning toward the Dunlop American Elite designed for the front and not a rear tire reversed.

Kevin I got the 91, 40# in slight vibration in the bars, 38/39 all is good. Over on HD Forums under the “dark side” some trikers are recommending, Dunlop MU85R-16. I belive it’s a rear tire reversed. Saying they get 40k on them, seems a bit far fetched, but thought I would pass it on.

I now have over 14k on my Avon 91. Balanced with weights as dealer took it off the 16 for the 20 ,no hum. If "gun shy" about a 91, I would opt for the American Elite, rather than backward mounting a rear tire.
2020 TriGlide Tahitian Teal aka (Hawaiian Hussy). Avon frt & Comfortred rear tires. ProAction frt & rear susp. RZ seat. DK floorboard extension & rear axle retainer kit with EBS, HD pull -back bars. Custom Dynamics front turn signals & Vent grill. All ,HD "Edge Cut " accessories.

I have over well 15,000 on our Michelin Commander II Rear rev. and just measured 5/32"s. Now remember it started new with a measured 9/32". So I'm not sure how many more miles I will get. However I keep the air pressure at 38 lb. I check it every Saturday morning while we are riding. Not so much now the cover gets in the way. Fred

I just did a bit of research on the Elite....tread depth is only 6/32, was really looking for deeper...thus the reason for an Avon or rear tire reversed.

    Still thinking about it.

Been reading up a bit on the Michelin Commander III (3) for Touring models. Made of 100% silica reinforced rubber, supposed to have longer life than rubber/silica mix of the II's, AND a Better grip.

Thanks for the prodding. This is what I started with almost 10 years ago...a Michelin Rear Tire Reversed.

I decided to replace my Dunlop with another one after reading this thread. I have 2 bottles of Ride-On sitting on my work bench ready to go if need be. They said my tire needed no weights and balanced out perfectly. I don't have much faith in the dealers but after i installed the wheel and went for a ride it rode like i was on glass. This was a new one on me ! A tire that needed no weights and rode great.

I have always had very good results from Ride-On and will hang a to my 2 bottled for awhile longer. May install next summer while it's warm out. It's worth the flat protection. Never had any Humming or bad vibes. from using it.
