I believe I remember one of the conversions used the left saddle bag sensor to track the trunk ... maybe check that closed?

Tony, Welcome to Trike Talk from West Virginia, USA.
If you have a Monarch I, the lower trunk lid lays down.
If you have a Monarch II, the lower trunk lid raises up.
The Monarch I has a micro switch in the middle of the latch (look where striker enters latch).
It usually has a red button on it that may have fallen off not allowing switch to fully function.
The Monarch II is usually wired to the RT Saddlebag Light.
It has 2 micro switches wired to the 2 latches.
To test it, simply open the trunk and push both latches shut with a finger (2 clicks on each).
