    Default Road Zeplin seat

Thinking about getting an RZ seat. Wife & I got to set on one but no time to air it up or ride it. We will be doing that soon. I found some old threads here but looking for updates.

My stock seat (with mem foam added) & my air hawk (very little air) are not getting me much over one to one & a half hours before I gotta get off. The get offs come sooner as the miles count up. Tried the sheep on top of the AH, but puts me just too high. I like the seating position on the stocker and want to stay close to that. So some questions for those with experience with the RZ:

How long have you had it and do you still like it?

Can / do you ride it short miles without added any air (just sitting on it without air felt ok)?

I get "hotspots" on the bottom of my pelvis & not much issue with my tailbone, can I not airup the back part (assuming air there will push me forward)?

Have you had any repair issues with the RZ?

    Thanks in advance!

have had one for 10 years. still love it. very seldom do I ad air. I ride 2 to 3 hours before gas without issue. Always was uncomfortable on other seats after that time period.

I have had a RZ for about 4 years now. My wife and I find it to definitely be more comfortable than the stock seat. There are two air bladders in the rider's part of the seat, and there are separate switches for each. So yes, you can put air in one and not the other. Or adjust to what ever is comfortable for you. The passenger part of the seat has one air bladder and has it's own switch for adjustment.

Adjustments can easily be made while riding. My dealer let me keep their demo seat overnight so we were able to put some miles on it to see if it was worth the $$$ investment.

I loved the RZ on long trips .... I would change the air pressure every fuel stop. My thought is the key to long distance riding comfort is the ability to change foot position, the changing air pressure allows you to adjust your b$tt position as necessary. Now that I've got the pro action shocks, the cool -n- clean ... saving my pennies for a RZ. Or, maybe a rake kit, or mini apes ... so many choices ... so little money ...

I have had one since 2003. Old style(3 bladder for rider) Now have the new seat with 2 bladders for the rider. Still love it. Will never own a bike without it. Had the bladders replaced once about 8 years ago. I adjust the bladders about every half hour or so just to ward off any pressure before it gets uncomfortable.

I bought a beaded seat pad because I was going to do a Saddlesore 1000 after riding the whole Route 66 trip with my dealer and wanted the most comfort I could get. If you get "sticky butt" get a beaded seat pad - you won't regret it. Just take it off for the winter.

I don't know why they eliminated the center bladder from the old design = it was fantastic for my sciatic nerve problem.

Jeff, got my RZ in 2012 for my "11 TG. Put over 100,000 miles on it with no problems. I did send it in to get recovered this year as I did tear it in a couple of places getting on & off the trike over the years. I didn't want to have a torn seat on a new trike. A dealer has to send it in to get the work done, cost about $250 plus freight.

The seat is much more comfortable that stock even without adding air. I only add air on an extended ride(over 200 miles) and that depends on the circumstances. Wife probably uses the air adjustments more than me. I know there are several other quality seats out there, probably all around the same price range. Good luck on your choice, I can only say I am happy with the RZ.

Jeff, we've had a RZ seat for 5 years now. even the wife likes it a lot, I change the pressure probably every 1/2 hour or so when we're out. I don't have any extra padding on my rear end so changing the pressure keeps me going.

Go to Walmart, OR any place that sells seat cushions. and just purchase a seat cushion (that fits your seat the best) and just place this new cushion on top of your stock seat........ I paid under $10.00 dollars and can now ride hundred miles more a day, without the aching poop'rrr syndrom................Your spinkster muscle will be "thanking you" and your wallet will stay thicker!

    Just a suggestion!!

    Default Update & new question

Put about 100 miles on an RZ demo today. Adjusting on the fly made a real improvement for me. I think I am going to get one. The question now is wiring. The RZ (with adaptor) uses the auxillary plug under the left side cover. I already have my Mighty Mites in that plug. Anyone know how many amps the Mighty Mites draw? I don't want to overload that system by having both the MMs & the RZ plugged in there IF that is too big a load. Dealer will do the install (warranty protection) but has never worked around the MMs before. Any thoughts or schematic on best way to do this?

I don't know what the draw on the RZ is, you could always just run the Mites direct to battery leaving the plug for the RZ.

I thought about that but would prefer there is no power to the MMs when the ignition switch is off. I checked with Zook and he referred me to Dave at Luv Juggs. He told me the MMs draw 3.2 amps. Dealer will check with the Moco tomorrow on what the draw is on the RZ. Will report back what they find out.

Ok, dealer heard back from the MOCO and the RZ pulls 6 amps when the compressor is running. So, I will have 9.2 amps on a 15 amp fuse, good to go. The RZ will be installed on the 11th.

    Default You will love it!

I would never go back to the stock seat. I love the RZ on my '15 TriGlide. It takes a little getting used to finding where your comfort "sweet spot" is. I adjust the pressures as needed and it's nice to be able to do it on the fly. My lady loves the passenger seat comfort. One thing you will notice is it sits you a bit higher than a stock seat and will alter how you shift. I find myself doing more and more heel shifting with this seat due to the seating position versus virtually none with the stock seat. I am cursed with a bad left hip and motion is compromised because of it. All in all I don't mind the shifting difference because the seat is comfortable and I can ride long distances with it. I've used the Air Hawk in the past and it works okay but being able to adjust on the fly make a huge difference. Get it! You will not be sorry!

I DID get it and am NOT sorry!! Can run 100 miles now without a get off. Still playing around with it. But happy with it so far. Will have my sheepskin available on long trips as well.

I find the beaded seat pad way better then the sheepskin. Way better cooling and you don't have to take it off or cover it in the rain. JMHO

I wished Harley hadn't removed the center bladder from the RZ seat. That part was great for my sciatic problem. Still a great seat though.

    Default Road Zeppelin

I love my Road Zeppelin(RZ). Purchased it about 4 years ago. The RZ does raise your sitting position about an 1 inch or so when compared to other seats. The seat is very comfortable to me. However, even though the initial comfort is important, you buy the RZ to have the ability to change the seat's "hot spot" pressure points without having to stop.

The first six months I had my trike, my RZ did not work but was actually very comfortable. Now that it works, it is a joy!

With the bladder change my wife slides forward. she has back issues and its hurting after a half hour or so. Anyone know any place that modifies road zeppelin seats?
