Body squeaks

I had been having some very annoying body squeaks on my 2016 TG with 27K miles. I'd been under it and spray siliconed all the shock bushings, pan hard rod bushings and anything else I could get within range, with no luck. Not even a hint of change. As a last resort, I took it into Green Mount HD In O'Fallon, IL. The tech there pulled the right shock and greased up the shock bushings, but still the squeak persisted even with the shock off. He stuck his head in the trunk and further isolated the noise. He pulled up the trunk liner and found ALL 4 body mounting bolts hand tight; one being halfway out. Those bolts had never been touched by anyone since new and had ZERO locktite on them from the factory. The tech blue locktite'd and torqued all 4 bolts and put the TG back together. No squeaks. It cost me an hour's labor, but it was worth it. I do kick myself for not thinking of checking those bolts though. A lesson learned. Hope this will help somebody out there with a similar problem.

Thanks for the tip, would have never thought of that. Just wonder how many slip thru harley that way without any blue locktite on the trunk bolts or torqued down to specs if there is any. I guess it took quite a few years for yours since you said it was a 2016 to loosen up.

No wonder harley is having trouble selling bikes, no one wants a bike that is going to fall apart later down the road, I can't believe it since they are union workers to boot, guess they don't take pride in their product they are building. I hate to say it but unions are not like they used to be 25 or 30 years ago and that is all I'm going to say.

If you recheck those trunk mount bolts remember the top left is a ground stud and nut. You need to remove the ground strap and then torque the stud just sayin... I learned that when I removed the body the first time. If you have a bumper the same bolts hold it on as well, Travel safe Fred

Glad you got it sorted. It only takes one to be loose. I had one that was not tight a few years ago and it was irritating as all get out until I found it and tightened it up.

It does happen...not often, but maybe they are playing with their cell phones on the assembly line?

We've had two brand new trikes come thru with loose bottom shock bolts...they are captive, so they can't fall out, but still, not a good thing to see.

Yes I'm tired of covid19, they closed things down except grocery stores and a few other places I guess that needed to be open. Then they opened bars, movie theaters, gyms and etc etc, way to soon as far as I'm concerned, I know we need to open up but since then the covid 19 has spread even worse, young people are catching it now because going to bars etc etc. We don't have a mask mandate in the state, but some stores are requiring it to come into store, as far as me I have been wearing a mask from day one when grocery shopping and that is the only place I go to, I go early in the morning before it gets crowded to keep me safe, being 72 and having COPD I don't want to catch it. I know hospitals were doing good but now they are filling up.

I ride the trike when I can and still stay away from people and I'm staying healthy so far, knock on wood, visit with the neighbors every so often when outside and see them and we are at least 10 or 15 feet apart, one neighbor across the street started to come over and I stopped him, he understood and we talked a little loud I guess.

Yes I'm tired of it and hopefully they come out with something of a cure or something to help us out, personally I don't think we will ever have a normal way of life like we knew it before the pandemic, I hope not
