My son is normally heavily involved with Sturgis & he is staying in Durango this year trying to salvage the 4 Corners Rally over labor day weekend.
He told me HD is not even going to Sturgis...no trucks or demo rides. He said HD corporate put a stop to travel.

It seems to be winding down for the evening, around noon time it was busy. They'll probably have a good turn out despite all the doom and gloom from the media.

I've never been to the rally but it looks like this is the year I should have gone. I don't like large crowds and there just isn't the crowds I normally see. If I were 10 years younger I'd just spontaneously hit the road and go. But being over the hill I'm doing good just to get up off my lazy ass now. I got a buddy that's in the same boat. I wonder if we might prod each other enough to go. Nah, I doubt it. But I'm going to ask if he wants to.

Been there the last 28 years. Last year we decided to quit going and just go out at a couple different times a year and just ride the hills, Kind of miss it. But don't miss the fools that think the roads are a race track, and the ones that think their bad asses... We went out the last week of June for a week. And probably go back out mid to late September... Its a lot nicer riding the hills when you dont have a drunk or idiot coming at you in a curve where their riding to fast....
My wife and I and another two couples have been staying at Shade Valley the last few years. This would've been my 19th time attending the rally. We had reservations for this year but we were concerned due to my wife's health issues. COPD. Instead we decided to stay at American Creek Campground in Chamberlain SD, and moved it ahead a week before Sturgis. We toured around the area, making it out as far west as Wall Drug and the badlands.
I really like the Dakota's and love the rally, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if it ended up killing my wife.

Well I talked to my middle son in Durango & he finished some business & he and his girlfriend loaded up his toyhauler & they are headed up there.

They arrived in Sturgis safely from Durango. He is trying to socially distance & conduct some business, not really there to party/socialize.

Heh .......... I'm burned out on Sturgis. Went the first time in the mid 60's. Only time I missed was when I was in country. Last time was the yr after the 75th. Haven't been back since. It has become gentrified. Back when the Jackpine Gypsies mc ran it it was fun. Once the city got involved it started going down hill more and more every year. A lot of the long time mom and pop vendors quit coming because of the city licensing fees and stall rental increases.

You haven't missed much. As I said early on, very few of the original mom and pop vendors still come. They have been priced out by the greed of the city and the state. There used to be a couple from FL that came up for years. Had a booth in what was referred to as the alley. They made really high quality chaps, vests and jackets. We still have the set they made for our now 30 yr old. His daughter wears them.I kinda wanted to go this year but the 2 day ride from Florida would have been too much hassle
