Engine went due to sumping

I have a 2020 tri I needed the seal that goes on the back of the oil pump to the crank shaft, my local dealer did a nation wide search and could not find one , had to buy a the back half of the oil pump to get the seal .He said they have bikes that have been waiting for months for parts. GOOD LUCK Today got a email from them SOUTHAMPTON H D they are closing for good , they cant survive any longer with out bikes or parts or t shirts . THE END IS NEAR :xzqxz:

Southampton H D Has a 2020 C V O tri glide white that I bet can be bought really cheap , they close 9/15/20

Harleys New CEO Had said before the Chinese Virus ...That they will cut back production of new bikes close some plants and have the dealers try harder to push the sale of used bikes... Which are a glut on the market at this point..

Trike back home

I got my trike back from the dealer on 9/4. I did a new engine break-in. Took it for a long ride this past weekend. I have just over 1300 miles on the repair and everything seems good. It runs pretty quiet and smooth. Just a little ticking sound when it gets warm. Seems to be running cooler. The radiator fans don't run as much. I am about 200 miles from the 50k service. I am going to have the oil and filter changed. Then I will decide whether to keep or trade.

Did you get the latest oil pump upgrade?

I have a post out there dated 7/25/2019 on the sumping issue. 10k miles later the bike is running better than when it was new. Harley’s warranty states they are not required to build a machine using current part versions. This my friends tells me how concerned they are about us customers.

I was surprised to see that SouthHampton Harley was closed................. I thought that the business was doing good.............

I ride a Goldwing trike, BUT I still went to the pig rhost and chile eating gigs that this dealership put on every season.............and I would test ride a new Harley every season...BUT never purchase one as of yet....................NOW I"M SAD, even though I ride a Honda, I'd still go there with my Harley friends, quite often...........

Update

I have put 4500 miles on the engine repair and all appears to be fine. Actually seems to run a little better than it did before. I did try to trade for '20 TG when I went in for my 50k service. Salesman showed no interest in doing a trade after he found out that I have no payments and would be paying for the new one with cash. I went ahead and had the 50k service done along with a new front tire. His loss. The next day I traded my 10 month old '20 car for a '21. The car salesman had no problem with a cash trade. I have decided to just keep ride my '17 till I quit riding or it dies.

Harley 2017 and 2018 sumping much bigger issue than Harley will admit

My 2017 TG is now at the dealer with the top end removed from the engine. Lost oil pressure last week while out on a short ride. They are replacing the oil pan, oil pump, lifters, pushrods, cylinders and pistons. Pistons were pretty scarred and everything had that burnt look. They said that this is only the second stock 107 that they have seen with a sumping issue and both have been trikes. I have almost 49k on it. I looked into paying the difference to do an engine upgrade, but have decided to ride it to the end of the season and trade for a new one. Really glad my wife talked me into the extended warranty:D, which ends in January.

My 2017 Triglide with 107 had sumping problems twice. The first time in 2018 my Harley service tech may have not know about sumping yet and replaced both pistons, rings, cleaned up heads from massive carbon build up which actually caused a tapping noise like loose compensator. The second time in 2019 it became so bad I barely made it back to Wisconsin. The ESP adjuster witnessed the rods standing up in the case (tight enough to remain upright and rigid) which means to them NEW ENGINE. The replacement was a 2019 107 with the latest upgrade oil pump and whatever else. After losing 3 months of riding over 2 seasons (short in the north) I traded for a 2020 Triglide Tahitian Teal not trusting the 107 crate in my 2017. I researched forums for about a year and sumping pops up fairly regular. Checking with numerous service depts in Wisconsin and when asking them about sumping they all played dumb and of course will lie to your face saying "it's only the second one we have seen like this". Figure the consequences of a national recall! Service depts are required to keep hush, play dumb, and address the sumping problems on a case by case basis (not to upset the apple cart...I mean Wall Street! The oil pump (sumping) problem root cause was pumping more oil into the crankcase than what could be removed. Oil level rose, the crank splashed in the oil foaming it up causing a lack of lubrication to the top end, everywhere as oil pumps have a hard time pumping foam! It was a huge costly design flaw from the get go with the first M-8 engine. My life has been product/process development and product engineering. This was a CLEAR case of insufficient testing before new product introduction. I consider it Harley's biggest blunder since AMF was at the controls! Anybody else have sumping with comments to share???

My 2017 Tri-Glide stumped on me twice ...But before i had them look at it ' I got rid of it....Mainly because every 8 hundred miles or so i had to bring it in for Oil Transferring...
