    Default Parking Brake Adjustment

    Hi all

    I bought my 2017 tri glide "new to me" last year, Memorial weekend after having not ridden a bike in over 30 years. My wife and I have since logged 13,000 miles. We both love it and have taken several over night trips to different parts of our home state of Michigan. We hope to travel outside the state next year. We would have done it this year, but the whole Covid thing gave us pause.

    I just got the bike back from the dealership a couple of weeks ago from it's 15000 mile check up. They forgot to adjust the parking park. It has to be pushed all the way down to get it to hold. I looked in the manual and it looks straight forward for me to adjust accept for one thing. When the manual states lengthen the adjuster location does that mean screwing it toward the front of the bike or to the rear of the bike? Simple I know, but for some reason I just can't seam to get it straight in my head. I been reading the site since last year and have learned a lot. Thanks all

    David, welcome aboard from San Antonio, Texas. If I were you, I would take it back to the dealer since you paid for the K service. Two years ago the parking brake on my 2015 Freewheeler was being adjusted as part of the service when the cable broke. They didn't have one in stock, so I did have to go back when I returned from my trip.

    Hi David and Welcome to Trike Talk

    First I would call the shop and see if they will honor your work

    If not, you lengthen the adjuster toward the rear of the Trike. 3-4 clicks on the pedal should hold

    as far as the Pork break if it isn’t too much of a convenience take it back to the dealer it shouldn’t take him more than five minutes to adjust it..

    Hi David. You can't really mess it up. If you go the wrong way it will be evident pretty quickly if you press on the pedal it will have more slack not less. In that case just turn the adjuster in the opposite direction to remove slack. I adjusted mine several months ago and not 100% positive but pretty sure you want to turn the adjuster counterclockwise to remove slack in the cable.

    As others have said, take it back and if they won't do it then at least you had some advice how to do it plus you already about it, so good luck.

    I had a 2016 and never used the parking brake, I have a 2018 now and have not used the parking brake either, when in gear and parked it will stay or at least I hope so, hasn't failed me yet and besides I don't park on hill either, but in gear it should stay also.

    You adjust it to the rear to increase brake pressure, towards front to decrease. I know it the opposite of what you think, and I have made that mistake more than once. But adjusting to rear puts more tension on emergency brake.

    Thanks for all the fast responses. I decided to take several of you guys and gals advise and call the dealership. First off they apologized for not adjusting the parking park and I made appointment to stop by tomorrow after work and they will fix it while i wait. I appreciate the response's on which way to turn it. In the future if i feel it needs adjustment before the next maintenance check up I might try to do it. It seems very easy now that I know which way to turn. i usually do leave in gear also. I am bit anal retentive (just ask my wife!) so doing both gives me peace of mind.

    David .....I always leave my ....Bikes and Trikes in gear [1st] been doing it that way since the 60's.. With trikes i never trust the park brake, Trikes will roll away if the brake lets go even on a slight incline if left in neutral......
